Badge of Communion
Artifact

Commitment: 2 motes

These badges are usually issued in groups of five (or rather; the Celestial Bureaucracy would rather they were usually issued in groups of five - each of them is an Artifact 1; you don't get all 5 for one point); one for each member of a Circle. Most frequently, they are issued to groups of Sidereals that must act in concert in Creation, and are in need of efficient long-distance communication.

Each bearer must commit one mote of essence to his own badge, and one mote of essence to the badge of one of the people he travels with; the entire Circle should do this at once, creating an Essence matrix binding the Circle's badges.

Thereafter, any of the Badge-bearers may reflexively spend 1 mote of essence to send a short message (no more than ten words) to any one of his circlemates, 2 motes to send that same short message to all of his circlemates, 3 motes to send a long message (unlimited length, but once the character stops speaking, the message has ended - he can't keep up a running commentary in fits and starts), 4 motes to send the long message to all of his circlemates. 4 motes from all circlemates at once allows them to speak in unlimited quantity (fits and starts included) with each other for an hour; these 4 motes are committed for the hour. One-word messages may be sent to a single circlemate reflexively, free of charge ("Duck!"). If the Storyteller feels the player is abusing this ("Quick! Run! To! Your! Left! Under! That! Tree! With! The! Pink! Sex! Ninja! -! Initiate! In! It!), he should feel free to charge Essence.

The badges usually take on the appearance of simple disks with geometric designs decorating their interior.

The badges have additional effects depending on what Magical Material they are constructed from (in the current Age, almost exclusively starmetal, as they are popular among the Sidereals, but have been almost completely forgotten in the Shogunate, and Lunars have little need for it, with the Brotherhood of Lake and River charm):

 • Orichalcum: When the entire Circle (or rather, all of the Badges) are within 100 yards of one another, all Badge-bearers recieve +2L/2B armor soak.
 • Moonsilver: When the entire Pack is within 100 yards of one another, all badge-bearers recieve +1 die to all rolls to achieve a common goal.
 • Jade: When the entire Brotherhood is within 100 yards of one naother, all badge-bearers recieve a 2 mote Essence cost break on Charms that affect allies.
 • Starmetal: When the entire Circles is within 100 yards of one another, all badge function costs are reduced by 2 motes.
 • Soulsteel: When the entire Circle is within 100 yards of one another, all Badge-bearers recieve a reflexive Dodge pool equal to their Permanent Essence once each round.
Comments:

I really like these, they're neat. Flavourwise, however, I would prefer the dodge bonus to go to orichalcum, and the soak to soulsteel, because soulsteel seems to me to infer the uncaring resilience of the dead, and orichalcum the shiny skillfulness of solars, not to mention the intangibility of sunlight.
-- Darloth does realize ghosts are intangible as well, but still.
