Background
Sorry about your arm, but I don't suggest trying to hit me again.
Training
Attacking an Asecending Fire master is like thrusting your hand into an open flame - you grasp nothing and get burned. To achieve this, students begin each day with rigorous stretching exercises. Gymnastics follow, leading directly to sparring practice. First year students are never allowed to strike their sparring partners; they are graded on how few times they get hit. Second year students are allowed to strike only when countering their partner's blows. The masters who oversee the training punish severely any second year student who strikes at an illegal moment. Only in their third year are students taught the deadly, and difficult to assail, direct offensive moves of the style.
Weapons and Armor
Any melee weapon with a blade is a form weapon for this style. No armor is allowed.
Complementary Abilities
All charms of this style have an Athletics requirement to learn equal to their Essence requirement. Also, Lore • is required to start learning the style, Lore •• is needed for the form charm, and Lore ••• is required for the pinnacle charm. Finally, Dodge •• is a requirement for all charms.
Charms
Evasive Flicker
Cost: 1m/DV Minimums: Essence 1, MA 3 Type: Reflexive Keywords: Combo-OK Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: None
With limber, athletic bodies, Ascending Fire students can bend exceptionally well to avoid blows. This charm adds up to half the student's Martial Arts score (including applicable specialties, round up) to her Dodge DV. This increase counts as automatic successes, not bonus dice from charms.
Leaping Flame Tongue
Cost: 5m Minimums: Essence 2, MA 4 Type: Reflexive Keywords: Combo-OK, Immovable Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: None
Much like fire will leap to any place it can keep burning, students of this style can reach a safe place to keep living if it exists. This charm is used against an undodgeable attack, allowing the martial artist to use her Dodge DV normally against it.
Scorching Deflection
Cost: 1m/DV Minimums: Essence 2, MA 5 Type: Reflexive Keywords: Combo-OK Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: Evasive Flicker, Leaping Flame Tongue
With Scorching Deflection, the Ascending Fire second year student boosts his Martial Arts Parry DV in the same way as the first year student boosts her Dodge DV with Elusive Flicker. However, Scorching Deflection has an additional effect: if the attack is parried, then roll dice equal to twice the amount the attack failed by as the attack roll in a counterattack. Damage for the counterattack is as per a melee weapon the charm user is currently wielding, or punch, kick, or other natural appendage damage if otherwise unarmed. The maximum number of health levels of damage this charm can result in to the attacker is the Essence of the defender.
Ascending Fire Form
Cost: 6m Minimums: Essence 3, MA 5 Type: Simple (Speed 5, DV -0) Keywords: Form-Type Duration: Scene Prerequisite Charms: Scorching Deflection
Ascending Fire Form represents a mastery of the first and second year principles of this style. As such, all three prerequisite charms have their cost reduced by 1m while this form is active.
Burning Blood Strike
Cost: 3m Minimums: Essence 3, MA 5 Type: Simple (Speed 4, DV -0) Keywords: Combo-OK Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: Ascending Fire Form
The Burning Blood Strike is a one-knuckle fist atemi strike (use the normal Fist template, but with the speed and DV penalty listed above - form weapons may not be used to deliver this attack). The atemi causes a ripple in the target's bloodstream, which explodes arteries, veins, and capillaries. Any damage dealt by the Burning Blood Strike is repeated with an equal amount of damage four ticks later, as if the same attack had happened again. This only occurs if damage was dealt in the initial attack, and deals an equal number of health levels automatically. This is considered to be part of the same attack, so parries and dodges, even if perfect, cannot prevent this secondary damage, nor can charms such as Adamant Skin Technique. Treat this the same as after-soak damage multipliers such as Falling Icicle Strike, but with a dramatic delay.
Consuming Fire Kata
Cost: 3m/attack Minimums: Essence 4, MA 5 Type: Extra Action Keywords: Combo-OK Duration: Instant Prerequisite Charms: Ascending Fire Form
Fires consume quickly and utterly, and so do attacks using this kata. The Exalt buys up to half her Martial Arts, including specialties if applicable, in extra attacks (round up). This creates a Magical flurry with no DV penalty. The Speed of this Flurry is one less than the Speed of the slowest attack in the Flurry. Add half of the Exalt's Essence to the damage of each attack.
Blossoming Flame Lotus
Cost: None Minimums: Essence 5, MA 5 Type: Permanent Keywords: Enlightening Duration: Permanent Prerequisite Charms: Burning Blood Strike, Consuming Fire Kata
Mastering this style so likens this Exalt's body to the Fire element that it becomes second nature; or if it already was, it further supercedes any other nature in his body. Non-Fire Aspects who learn this charm may use the Fire Aspect Anima power. Fire Aspects who learn this charm gain harmony with and control over their deadly Anima; instead of the normal effects, they may choose to have their Anima Flux activate their Aspect Anima power instead. When activating their Anima power with motes instead of with Anima Flux, Fire Aspects with this charm may limit it to specific parts of their body if they wish.
