Many Places of Creation...
- Aquamarine Crossing
A great Bridge built on the First Age over the Amaru River, made of pure Aquamarine, so much of the gemstone together at once, more than many think possible to exist at once. An long arc of silver twenty feet tall is the gate to the bridge, which is large enough for five Guild Wagons to go through at once, side by side. The gate is covered by water on air, a membrane that shines as light filters through it. On each end of the bridge, there are two pillars. The arcs come from them, and atop the arcs, a small pillar raises. Atop each and every one are statues of women, covered in scarves of flowing water that cover all of her parts, held in her hands like they grip a snake, a whirlwind, something that coils around them. It is all made of aquamarines, but their eyes actually show the crystalline mien of blue jade. They are automatons, living stone guarding the Aquamarine Crossing, under the orders of its goddess.
Despite its breadth, there are long lines on either side of the Aquamarine Crossing. In the ruins of the Celestial Bureaucracy, the Goddess Aquamarine decided to gather power by asking for a heavy tithe to cross the bridge... or ask for prayer for those that cannot pay. Most end up paying in prayer, a solution that takes so long that it made restaurants and inns and stores with prayer material and temples flourish around the Crossing... good in some ways, bad in others, the Goddess' extorsion racket may create a new tomorrow or be her undoing...
- Cherry River
A river that fills with cherries on autumn, one for each daughter of each goddess. One for each of her lovers. The river takes the color of cherry blossoms at dawn, and picking one of the cherries at that time brings a curse to the one who does so, or the goddess' favor, depending on her whims. A lottery which impels the proud and the desperate.
- Mount of Sighs
The Mount of Sighs lies somewhere to the northwest of Chaya. A wonder of nature, the great mount is pearly white, bare of vegetation. No villages or mines dot its sides either, although a few, ghostly structrures remain there, reminders of the few that tried to live on its shadow. Clouds gather at its peak, a place said to be untouched by the sun at all times. It is said to be protected by bloodthirsty birds of black ivory, and sharp, jagged vertical walls. Those that go through the tests to reach it say that only a pale sun in a shadow day strikes through the clouds, and in a great citatel around the peak, they are greeted by the great alpinists of the past, told to drink from their blood and bathe in their ashes, thus joining them in that paradise atop of the world...
- Sudoku Village
Sudoku village is a strange village, a small village built around a small First Age core. Its first age part is built with an implicit methodology - having a number of towers, each house, with some count in every collumn of houses - it is all very strange, a play of mathematics in the shape of a city. However, it creates quite a unique visual with the old spires coming out of each house, even though some are crumbling, from damage sustained during the Contagion, and after...
- Celadon Forest
A large forest on the farthest East! A land of pale, white blooms complimented by pale tinges of yellow and rose and blue and violet. A forest comprised of many valleys within mountains, of many waterfalls, mountains that seem made of fossilized wood. Far downt he mountains, the wyld prowls on the deepest parts of valleys... but comes no further up.
- Viridian Dream
Anja's Manse in the Celadon Forest in the farthest East. Sculpted out of the world, made out of natural jade, garnets and topaz, coming from the mountains that form it themselves, with just enough earth to grow trees... a great pagoda with five floors, three of the last one spreading into actual suspended gardens... each ending before the last, in rows of four great towers, one per floor. From two of the three gradens waters fall into waterfalls, two rows of them, some falling on the lower floor, some down the Manse. Within the gardens, naturally hot springs allow the sorceress to relax after her ordeals...
- Carnelian Pass
Within the Celadon Forest, a place of sinuous high bridges of stone, amidst great valleys... waterfalls seeming to fall everywhere, and the valleys... so covered in trees that the very rock seems to be made of roots. Or maybe it is. Old, old roots. Some of the bridges certainly are roots, long roots of trees that are not even that grand, but whose roots grow without limit, forming natural works of art... a calm, moist place of natural artistry.
Many Circles of Creation...
- Nine Companions
The Nine Companions of the Great Forks are daughters of Rei-Lai, Fox-God of the East, Trickster and Hunter, Mischievous and Bureaucractic. His daughters, the Nine Companions, are taken from their mothers - themselves companions and daughters of Rei-Lai - from birth to be trained into being companions, the greatest and most coveted concubines of the East, to serve, and hopefully be taken as brides, only Emperor and great Divinities themselves. Every generation, Rei-Lai's blood loses its potency, which is shown in a loss of a tail - from nine to one, and at the break of a century, nine again, as the Fox-God renews his gift to their lineage. Even those of the One-Tail generation are precious to emperors, but the Nine-Tail are considered the greatest, most skilled and sacred.
The companions are trained as bodyguards, talented performers and priestesses and noble concubines(with all the etiquette and knowledge that entails, and then some) to such a degree that, even though there are upwards from forty children in each generation, all God-Blooded of great pedigree, only nine are chosen. Those that fail what their single goal in life up to that point are usually left broken wrecks, treated as less than trash by their god and father, and carted off to one of his whorehouses.
The companions seldom use their talents to their own gain, however - while Rei-Lai does not own them like one would slaves, he nevertheless notes down each and every dinar they have costed him every day of their lives, all of their luxurious life and virtuous tutors, and makes certain they pay for it with their services... a debt so great that even those that marry to emperors and gods manage little more than to heighten the crown or church's debt.
