Creating Gods

The process of creating gods is an involved and long one, but also explains a great deal of the power of the Swords of Luna. Very few outside of the Silver Pact have any hint as to just how advanced the Lunars essence engineering is, and among their greatest achievements are the ability to forge gods.

The Process

Every God Factory is based on a level five manse, with a new quality: God Forging Manse. This is a 5 point power, that also requires the entire
power of the Manse to be dedicated to the central chamber, depriving the Manse of a Hearthstone. Many God Factories are also sentient, enabling the
Manse to assist with the control and creation of the new spirit. A sentient manse provides a +2 to all rolls, if it has abilities of 6 in the relevant
areas. Not all manses have such assistance—in some cases the Lunars prefer to co-locate factory cathedrals with their God Factory.

The process begins with a ritually purified object, whose shape depends on the spirit the lunar wishes to create. A warrior god might be a
statue of a soldier, while a god intended for less violent purposes would be shaped differently—for example, a fertility spirit might be seeded by
poems written by lovers and parents, or other such items. The item is inscribed with moon silver writing in Old Realm, a combination of prayers to the
least god within the object and instructions on what the Lunar wishes the result to be.

This process requires Occult 6 and Craft (spirit) 6, and the number of successes and difficulty of design depend on the type of
spirit the Lunar wishes to create, mentioned in their character entries. Certain types of Gods, most especially the incarnated warriors of Gaia require
other resources. Once the design process is completed and the seed finished, the Lunar carefully places it in the central chamber of the manse, after
ritually purifying herself. The process must be completed before the next Calibration, lest the evil influence of the Yozi’s warp the new spirit.

But the mere power of the Manse is not enough—this is not simply a inanimate object, but a creature a god and it requires worship, not just
for power, but to awaken it to its true nature. The Lunar must have at least a 1 dot cult, praying to the god, using prayers crafted as part of the
design process. This cult provides no benefit to the Lunar—all the power is oriented on the Manse which often has a surrounding city for just this purpose.
Higher levels of cult provide more power for the god upon it’s creation, although few Manses have associated cults of greater than 3 dots.
There is also the fact that some lunars are not interested in creating a spirit that is to powerful. Presuming all goes well, the day before the next calibration,
the door to central chamber opens and the God steps out. New born gods are usually well disposed to the Lunar who created them—they are, after all,
far more powerful then they would ever have been other wise. A failed design
roll can create a God that is less powerful, unsuited, rebellious or just flawed in some way.

A Botch is very bad and indicates that some demonic or necromantic taint infected the god. Sometimes these gods don’t reveal their true
allegiance until they are in position to do a great deal of damage…
