Plot Synopsis to Date

Prologue

  • the Maiden of Secrets invites the other Celestial Incarna to a secret meeting to discuss matters of import to all Creation. She shares with them a single secret that she had been keeping for a long time.

Act I

  • Hannak`Dur and Wang`Fu get a visit in the form of Luna, who tells them that they have to go down to Creation for some task. The exact nature of this task is up to whomever takes over. My thought is that it involves protecting Cailus, given events later, but I left it open on purpose.
  • Cailus and Rosimund get attacked by Bandits! All seems lost, but...unknown to all...Cailus is about to be Exalted by the Unconquered Sun.
  • Lytek, in the finishing stages of the above Exaltation, is interrupted by Jupiter and the Unconquered Sun -- who instruct him that he is NOT going to use the spark he had been intending to use, but instead a 'special' spark that he'd kept hidden away on the orders of Jupiter.
  • Lytek almost tells the Unconquered Sun about something (the Great Curse?), but doesn't get a chance before the UCS runs off to catch up in the Games of Divinity. Jupiter gets pissed at him for almost blowing their secret.
  • Cailus is Exalted, and defeats most of the bandits -- but Rosimund is dragged off, and he must chase after her:)

Act II

Scene 1

  • Cailus reveals that he remembers almost all of at least one of his past lives as a ruler among exalted and a judge known for his fairness
  • Cailus vows to take revenge first on the bandits for taking his love and then on the world for forgetting him, drunk in his own power
  • The UCS tries to dissuade Cailus, to no avail. Calius rushes off.

Scene 2

  • HD and WF sit in a bar waiting to meet someone.
  • While they sit they are approached by Phineas, who requests HD goes to meet his master. HD explains he has more important obligations.
  • While talking to Phineas, Cailus comes in and argues with the bartender. HD and WF only notice that someone has been in the bar and left again. They rush out the door after him.
  • 2nd Bandit and Rosimund enter, waiting to meet someone themselves. While they wait, Cailus walks in. End of Scene.

Scene 3

  • Bandit Leader hears a voice speaking through the haze of death, offering him a second chance.
  • Bandit Leader accepts an abyssal exaltation and the title Darkness When All Is Bright

Act III

Scene 1

  • Darkness waits angry at how Cailus is profiting while he must wait.
  • MoW comes in, and gives Darkness a book, which he calls a weapon.

Scene 2

  • Cailus with Rosimund's urging threatens HD again.
  • HG agrees to give Cailus his "inheiritance."
  • HG tells WF everything is under control and hints WF should "distract" Rosimund.

Scene 3

  • Wordsmith of Phantasies has lost a book and is searching when HG arrives with the others.
  • HG gets a book the Wordsmith was holding, and learns that the companion volume is missing.
  • Cailus reads the book and is drawn into the dreams of his glory and might in the First Age as Zael Light-Bringer.

Secene 4

  • Lytek reveals to Jupiter that the lost book has been lost to fate, and a part of Zael's history erased from memory.

Act IV

Scene 1

  • Darkness When All is Light goes into the underworld, and summons forth the three spirits by the Name (Zeal Light-Bringer) and the Book (the tome that the Mask of Winters presented to him.
  • The first two spirits -- the Veiled Woman and the Warrior Knight -- tell their summoner of the crimes that were commited upon them, and of the Burdens that they carry. Pride and guilt, shame and disgrace.
  • The third spirit -- the Skeletal Sage -- refuses to answer his summoners questions, stating that he is commanded by his bindings against revealing anything unless his summoner first passes a test.
  • Darkness When All is Light gets annoyed, but ultimately asks about the test.

Scene 2

  • Cailus finds himself still within the dreamworld that the book opened up into, and demands to know where he is.
  • A mysterious -- yet familiar -- voice answers that he is in a dream, but not an ordinary dream, and asks if he knows how he got here.
  • Cailus remembers the Golden Lion, and the book, and the Voice notes that him and the Lion were once friends -- confusing Cailus, as he knew that they were friends but he did not treat Hannuk`Dur like a friend.
  • The Voice reveals that she knows why he treated Hannuk`Dur as he did, telling Cailus that his soul is not whole -- that it's missing the part that keeps his identity solvent and whole in the face of memories of the past -- the very kinds of memories that remain in his soulshard.
  • The Voice notes that she is the one who removed that part of his soul, before he was born, but will not tell him why she did this.
  • Cailus recognizes the voice as belonging to Jupiter, the Maiden of Secrets, who reveals herself.
  • Jupiter makes Cailus kneel (which he does, if reluctantly) and instructs him to seek out the other book -- and that he should obey the gods.
  • Cailus leaves. Jupiter and the Unconquered Sun chat a bit, as the scene closes.
