Sun's Setting, Chosen of Luna

Sun's Setting was born Greenleaf, a member of a small tribe from the far East. His father was a great hunter, and his brother Redfern followed in his father's footsteps, but Greenleaf chose the path of the tale-spinner. He had a knack for it almost beyond imagining, and he Exalted when a Fair Folk attacked him after Greenleaf defeated it in a game of riddles. His brother was not pleased, but Greenleaf was a Prince of the Earth, and he banished his brother after a brief fight. As was the custom of his tribe, he took an adult name--Sun's Setting, from the time he gave his brother to leave his camp.

The Lunars found him almost immediately, before he had even tasted the heart's blood of his totem--one of the flying squirrels that were so common in the deep forests of the East. He showed a surprising aptitude for combat during his trials, but his gift for storytelling and his ability to hide, cultivated over long years of hiding from his brother's rage, showed themselves more strongly, and his Caste was fixed at Waning Moon. He took to his function with easy grace, mastering the arts of shapeshifting and spying out the secrets of the Fair Folk for the Deliberative.

It was on a journey east that he stopped in Rathess to rest before heading farther out towards the Wyld, and there he met Dancing Ruby Phoenix. The two fell instantly in love, and Sun's Setting gave her a moonsilver mirror as a token of his appreciation. They were married as soon as he returned from his mission, and he was introduced to the members of her Circle. He struck up fast friendships with Nine Lives, Shining Star's mate, and with Seventh Son, who put aside his customary aloofness on several occasions to talk to the Lunar who truly understood what it meant to serve the Realm under the cover of darkness. He also befriended Hikari, Maenin's mate, though to a lesser extent--she spent most of her time with Maenin.

It was from Nine Lives that Sun's Setting learned the art of artificing and the rudiments of sorcery, and Sun's Setting, in between his missions and spending time with Ruby, forged several items of great power for himself.

As the Curse took hold of the Solars, Sun's Setting began to spend more and more time on missions away from Ruby. He also met with the other Lunars, who told him similar tales of the excesses of the Solars. When he heard from Alaethis that the Dragon Blooded were planning an uprising to overthrow the Solars, he knew that it was a worthy goal. He could not bring himself to act against Ruby directly, but he stood aside during the Usurpation and fled into the Wyld with the other Lunars he knew--except Hikari, who died at Meru trying to defend Maenin from the Dragon Blooded. Hikari's willingness to die for her mate even though he was corrupt ate at him like a cancer, and it is probably one of the reasons he began to go mad so quickly.

Death

The Lunars had thought to stay in the Wyld for a few years--a couple decades at most--until the last remnants of the Usurpation were over. When they realized that the Sidereals planned to destroy them too, however, they were forced to remain in the Wyld far longer than they originally planned. Sun's Setting was one of the first to change, his body warping even as his mind did. Alaethis was greatly alarmed at the speed of his degeneration, and with Sun' Setting permission, he reforged some of his weapons into a helm to shield his mind. Unfortunately, while the helm did prevent him from degenerating any further, it also prevented his mind from being healed. One day, he wandered off into the depths of the Wyld never to be seen again.

Sun's Setting was finally killed by the Fair Folk Noble Arashi and his brothers, though he utilized the power of the hearthstone he still bore to slay all of them in turn except Arashi himself. In his half-mad state, he was not powerful enough to face a Fair Folk Noble in the depths of the Wyld. His death created a small pocket of order, however--a mighty oak to mark the tomb of a warrior.
