Alienate the Self

This one's a spell I made up so my Twilight would be able to use Anointment of Miraculous Health on himself, and not have to make himself utterly defenseless by using the last charm on the Solar medicine tree. I find it interesting that it would let Dragon-Blood sorcerors use scene-long die adders on themselves, as well as letting people muck around inside their own minds. It's an odd little spell, but I don't think it particularly breaks the game.

By means of this specialized and esoteric spell, an Exalt or talented mortal sorcerer can make charms or magical effects which ordinarily only affect other characters (such as Anointment of Miraculous Health) affect him or herself for the next hour. This gross manipulation of one’s magical resonance with oneself has a number of side-effects, however. In addition to allowing the caster to use charms and spells on themselves as if they were another person, it forces them to perceive themselves and their present and past actions from an objective perspective, as if they were a stranger or acquaintance. This can be extremely unpleasant, especially if the character usually turns a blind eye to their own failings and self-indulgence, but some casters find it useful, and use the spell for this “side-effect” alone.

It is also possible to modify Alienate the Self so one can perform elaborate manipulations of one’s own consciousness, though such attempts are not without risk. By making an Intelligence + Occult roll at a difficulty equal to her primary virtue, a Solar caster can attempt to remove points of Limit, but a failure on this roll gains the caster another point on the meter, and a botch propels them into their virtue flaw immediately, without the loss of any points of Limit. Other Exalts have attempted to use the spell to unlock memories of their First Age lives, with various results. Still others are rumored to have tailored versions of the spell which force other people to confront their lives and actions from an objective perspective, shattering their complacency and self-justifications.
