- The Maiden may activate this technique the first time in a turn she is attacked, or as she attacks someone. If attacked, she adds 2 dice to her parry (or gains a parry pool of 2 if she has no parry otherwise), and may add 2 more dice to her parry for every additional mote spent, to a total bonus of 9 (her Dexterity + Melee + defense bonus + specialty). The fractional mote is lost, if necessary. Should this parry succeed, she may launch an immediate undodgable, unblockable counterattack against the attacker, using any additional successes on the parry as successes on her counterattack. This attack adds 4 dice (the Maiden's Dexterity) to damage but has a difficulty of at least 3. If she achieves 3 counterattack successes and deals at least 2 levels of damage, she severs her attacker's arm or leg. If she achieves 4 counterattack successes and deals at least 1 level of damage, she severs a hand or eye. The victim suffers double the usual wound penalty until the bleeding stops, and must make a Stamina + Resistance roll to take any actions this turn.
- If activated as she attacks, she makes an attack, modified as per the counterattack above, with the same results, and may make maiming counterattacks against any hand-to-hand attacks targeting her this turn.
