Haplo was born the son of a prostitue in Nexus, never knowing for shure who his father was, not that anyone was claming him. He spent his youth the way many children do in Nexus, stealing. He had quite the promiseing carear as a common burgular untill the day his mother was killed.
He spent several months tracking down and planing the death of the John who had killed her. The man was a fairly wealthy mechant and was well protected, just not well enough protected. This brought him to the notice of a Guild "merchant", an old customer of his moms. He liked what he saw and the two came to an agrement, he would put him in touch with other people in Nexus who need justice and were willing to pay for it. Thus Haplo stated his life as an assasin.
