This is a little somthing I put together with the help of my Story Teller for an Alchemical Scout heading into creation after the breaking of the Eight Seals Of Divinity, but before invasion or return of Autochthon. The character premise was somthing akin to the El Mariachi from the Movies El Mariachi, Desperado, and Once Upon a time in mexico, to represent a case that stored an assortment of weapons. However that quickly evolved into somthing more when running into a few hurdles for an Alchemical in creation, such as the need for Vats.

This artifact is much much fun, and definetly over-powered in many ways, as I am a firm believer in the fact that artifact levels are exponential, and this one is no exception

Void Crossing Support Module - Portal of Divinity

Artifact 5
Commitment: 7 motes

Created in the most secret of workshops in Yugash by the most talented of the Alchemical engineers was the Void Crossing Support Module, or as called by its few users, the Portal of Divinity. The Module was created using the finest alloys of Star Metal, Orihalcum, Moonsilver, Jade, Soul Steel, and Adamant. Its unique properties allowing it to be shaped into any desired form when it is first Attuned to its user. Its basic form however, maintains the same semblance structure of a case that can be opened and closed. The Artifact is virtually indestructible due to the Soul Steel components. These however are only a few of the initial wonders of this powerful Artifact.

The case itself is a direct link to a special facility within a Vats system in Autochthon, acting as an intermediate between where ever the holder of the case is sent and home. It allows Alchemical Exalted to communicate and recive full support from Autochthon while in creation in the form of allowing access to charms and Vats via a special conductive relay, and an arsenal of various weapons for immediate use.
- Placing documents or items into the case allows for them to be retrieved in Autochthon, and can be replied upon in the form of a corresponding reply in documentation or audio-visual relay, as specified by the user. The case needs to be closed for messages and items to be relayed either way through the portal.
- Paying 1 mote allows the user to recall any one item placed inside the case for retrieval.
- Paying 1 mote allows the owner to open the case and specify the contents in the form of weapons of any nature, however no more than 2 weapons may be taken from the case at once in this way. These weapons are virtually unlimited and can be anything from a standard weapon to any generic artifact. However these weapons must be replaced into the case after use. The activation of this ability is reflexive, but drawing the weapon(s) from the case takes a full action. Artifact Weapons drawn from the case in this way with a commitment cost must be attuned before use.

This normally would be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands, but fail-safes were built in to insure protection of the owner and of the Module itself. Any being opening the case whom it is not attuned to will cause it to seal to the default placed on the case by the owner, which was set upon initial commitment.

The final, and most vital of all functions of the Portal of Divinity is the Recall Function. The owner may reflexively Pay 5 motes and 1 willpower, causing the case to fully unfurl presenting a gateway into Autochthon for 25 seconds. This is a violent reaction causing everything within 5 yards which is not physically secured down to be dragged into the portal. Those resisting the effect of the drag must take a strength+athletics roll with difficulty +2 to avoid being pulled into it. At the end of the 25 seconds the case will be burned out, only a charred husk of its original form remaining, leaving it totally destroyed, the owner must replace it entirely. If they are unsuccessful in entering the portal for any reason they will effectivly be stranded without a way home, save for whatever method they used to arrive. This function is to be used in emergencies, or if their original method of passage into Creation has been cut off or made unavailable, as replacing the case is not a simple task.

Examples:
Independantly Deviant ExaminerArabianNinja/I>, a Moonsilver Caste scout from Yugash has entered Creation via the Seal of Eight Divinites to scout Creation for his superiors to assess possibilites based on his discoveries. Taking on the form of a musician, <I>Independantly Deviant ExaminerArabianNinja/I> choses to make the Portal of Divinity a Guitar Case, its default form containing a guitar should anyone take it from him.
In times of need he opts to use the case to draw a Firewand and Crossbow to fend back his attackers, replacing them after use.

<i>The Delightful Researcher, a Starmetal Caste Sorcerer wishing to learn firsthandedly the ways of celestial sorcery ventures forth into Creation to further her own protocols. Taking the form of a traveling scholar, The Delightful Researcher makes her Portal of Divinity into a Scroll Case, its Default containing a few simple scrolls containing lore related to the first age but written in Old Realm so few can truly gain information from them.
With her studies gaining much head-way into the lore of Creation since the time of Autochthons Exile, she always passes copies of her notes into her scroll case to be Reviewd and Filed In autochthon.

Again, not a bad idea, but one that could use cleaning up. I'll do bullets this time:

  • So. I can specify 2 weapons, right? Well I want Reborn Glacial Rain and Soul Mirror. Those are weapons, and I can specify any two, right? And the only restriction is that I have to put them back before I can get new ones. Well, I don't need new ones - I've got Soul Mirror and Reborn Glacial Rain. Seems odd that a single level 5 artifact can give me two level 5 artifacts, and still do other stuff.
    • You can specify 2 generic artifact weapons, generic in that such items as Soul Mirror cannot be attained through the use of the Portal. That said, it's more than obvious for the exploitation based upon it, however, one must remember, you've now drawn 2 artifacts that are not attuned, so while it may seem a fun idea to draw 2 beam daiklaives, you need to immediatly pay the commitment and activation costs before they are of any use.ArabianNinja/I> - ArabianNinja -- <i>P.S. The idea is that you put the weapons back into the case after use period, not simply to retrieve others. The reason being that the case is somthing they would always carry with them, due to is expense and the fact its their only way home if something goes wrong. The removal and replacement of weapons is simply make life less cumbersome for the Alchemical, and preventing rare artifacts such as Beam Daiklaives and Crossbows to fall into the wrong hands.
      • There isn't really any such thing as a generic artifact though. It would be perfectly in-theme to replicate the Weapon Stored in Elsewhere Solar melee charm (Summoning the Loyal Steel I think, it's certainly in that tree though.) 1 mote per item, you can always assume that he's spent the time to put a bunch of mortal kit in there. -- Somori
        • Well this is somthing left to personal taste, and limitations placed upon it by Story Tellers discresion. The term generic is left to the artifacts that aren't unique, and mostly localised to those found in Autochthon. As with the above example, one may draw from the case a beam daiklaive, which is a lvl 4 artifact, and thats for a standard beam daiklaive, special ones can cost more. However, thanks for reminding me of a function that it seems I didn't elaborate, the ability to recall stored items. Thanks for the input. -- ArabianNinja
  • For one mote, I can open a portal to Autocthonia by putting something in the box and closing it. Reasonable, and thematic. But audio-visual relay? Does that mean the box can stay open while I talk into it? What if I open the box, and drop it into the ocean: Will the ocean pour through the portal, flooding all of Autocthonia? Having open-box transfer (even of AV) makes odd situations. Can I open it, hide it in a room, and use it to allow Autocthonian engineers to listen in on other conversations? What if I find a jar of gaseous poison - can I send it to Autocthonia, then leave the case in a crowded city street, having the Autocthonian engineers toss the jar violently back through? What if they try to fire a giant superlaser through the box?
    • Perhaps a poor choice of words on my part, but its a recorded message that is left for you, if you want to modify it to be able to maintain communications with others then thats up to you. However, for anything to be teleported the case must be closed after it is placed inside, or opened once the item has been placed inside for the alchemical to retrieve. I apologise for not making that entirely clear in the first place, and will correct. - ArabianNinja
  • You get a one-time flash-bang back to Autocthonia. Seems really weird, in that it destroys the box in the process. Making an artifact 5 from every magical material is costly. Especially in Yugash. Why in Creation would anyone destroy that much 5MM just to get home? Wouldn't it be smarter to allow the 'box' to transform into a coffin-like box, which the Exalt can rest in, and simultaneously exist in both the vats and the box? That way, he can get the upgrades he needs, but he'll probably want to be in some out of the way place first, so that no one finds him in this metallic coffin. Gives him upgrades at a distance, without concern.
    • the idea of using it as a surrogate vat was an initial idea, however, prooved infintely odd given the size an alchemical can reach, the use of it as a one-way back door into Autochthon is meant to be used only in extreeme situations, not casual use, thats inefficent after all. But again, I suppose I wasn't entirely clear on it. - ArabianNinja

Thus, my 'official' recommendation and simplification is that rather than having teleportation, and the associated weirdness, just have a much simpler definition - co-location. Anything in the box is also in the vats in Autocthonia. When the box is closed, the object is entirely in the vats, allowing upgrades, repairs, and for the Autocthonian engineers to read documents, etc. Anything you store in the box that can fit in the vats is fine (such as a Daiklave or a Firewand), allowing the character to store things there without concern, but not allowing it to make just any old thing on a whim. As always, your mileage may vary, and it's your game, etc. -- GreenLantern

    • Thanks for the feedback I do appreciate it greatly, and look forward to it in the future. - ArabianNinja
