Backstory
Originally from Sijan, the Deathknight Weaper of the Mournful River, formerly known as Thea, started her life with promise. Born to a good loving family, she joined the Morticians Order as soon as she was able, spurred on not only by the promises of what her afterlife would be like if she became a ghost, but also an utter fear of death. The young girl became driven, that the more she knew about it, she may be able to avoid or master it. Being one of the most able students they had accepted in a long time, Thea was quickly posted to follow a number of the more senior memebers of the Order so that she might be fasttracked for a high position more swiftly than might otherwise be affored to her.
Shortly after her 22nd birthday, Thea was asked to accompany a diplomatic envoy from the Order to Thorns. The meeting went smoothly and the political games played solely for appearances on both parties part were completed. As the group left however, they were attacked by a resistance group. The sentiments were that any associated with the dead and willing to deal openly with the Mask were enemies of the true Thorns. Thea wasn't even capable of reacting before the arrows punched into her chest.
She was terrified. She could feel the warmth of the pool of her own blood in counterpoint to the sheer chill she felt even as the last of her breaths began to flee from her lips. When Mask of Winters offered her the black exaltation she didn't hesitate such was her fear, though regretted it almost immediatly once the full magnitude of her choice was made and the indoctrination began.
Descrption
Like all abyssal exalts, the deathknight now known as River ended up submitting entirely to her Neverborn master. On her return to creation things changed as she fought to shut the whispers out and grew to remember just what creation and the underworld held. She learnt necromancy not to enslave the dead but to help it and began fostering noble ideas of the world Mask of Winters claims to seek, where both living and dead exists harmoniously. One where the fear she felt on death can be eased. She has currently fallen out of favour with her liege after allowing her compassion for both dead and living to get in the way of a number of important objectives. She does look up to her liege, though this would likely evaporate if she knew it was his spys in Thorn's underworld that led the attack that delivered her into his hands.
River refuses to submit to the ideas of what deathknights should look like, pushing what she can wear to the limit of what will gain her resonance. She also shuns the use of soulsteel, knowing exactly what goes into it's making (she wants to ease things for the dead, not forge souls away for eternity). As a result she normally appears wearing Orichalcum armour aquired from her master's armoury with deep crimson hair worn loose over the back of it and looks more like a Solar than an abyssal. The only concession she makes to her master's demands is that she adorns it with the regalia of the dead of the Morticians Order; black cloak draped over the back of her armour, sword sheathed in a black scabbard and a small number of other assorted insignia.
