History

Aksylrod is the son of V’Neef Misha and Peleps Netel. Misha was a talented Talon Leader within Ujiro’s Legion and Netel a skilled field engineer. Both were exalted. The two fell in love in the months following the initial discovery of the Reality Engine and the construction of Scarlet Haven. So strong was their love that they had a monogamous relationship and were soon married. After many fruitless years of trying to have a child, they were finally blessed with a baby boy. Misha and Netel doted on their son and gave him the very best they could muster within the confines of Scarlet Haven. Aksylrod, or Aksyl for short enjoyed six years of loving devotion and a strong upbringing from his parents.

This all changed when Misha lost her life defending Scarlet Haven during a Fairfolk raid soon after Aksyl’s sixth birthday. Netel did not take the news of his wife’s death at all well and rapidly spiraled into crippling depression and alcoholism. His friends and peers tried to help first for Netel’s sake, and later, after being totally alienated and ignored, for young Aksyl’s sake. Repeated admonitions from Ujiro and the Haven government were unable to penetrate Netel’s grief. In fact these only served to drive him into making trips into the Wyld, where he soon became addicted to the fantasies and dreams the twisted landscape could provide. Though many became suspicious, Netel retained enough of his senses to at least conduct himself with some discretion.

As Aksyl was basically an orphan, Sesus Chade, a friend of Misha’s, adopted him. As he aged and was able to get a better grasp of what was going on Aksyl grew to resent and pity his father. Despite these feelings, he did what he could to help take care of his ill parent. The situation came to a head some seven years later. Aksyl’s schooling had prevented him from being able to visit his father for a number of weeks. When he finally got around to getting to his father’s home, he found Netel passed out in his own filth, empty bottles and waste strewn about the place. He also noticed some physical changes as well, signs of Wyld mutation. Outraged and disgusted, he kicked his father awake and tore into him verbally, venting years of pent up frustration and loathing. As his father sat and took it all with unblinking incomprehension, something tore inside Aksyl and he exalted. The room was scoured clean in an explosion of thorns and brush from Aksyl’s anima and he tried to shake his father into understanding. Unsuccessful, he left to go get Chade. Soon the government became involved as the reality of Netel’s slide into degradation was brought to light. Netel was turned over to the community’s physicians and savants in hope of at least partial rehabilitation. Aksyl continued his training and schooling and contributed as much as he was able to his father’s recovery.

Despite the onus inflicted by his father, Akysl is a well accepted and liked member of Scarlet Haven. He is exceedingly charismatic and social, and is an unmatched prodigy in the performing arts. Natural talent along with rigorous training has made him a skilled musician, dancer and storyteller. Aksyl uses his talents to raise morale and provide cheer and accompaniment to those within the community. His actions, along with his cheery and personable demeanor have earned him a lot of respect.

The recent Wyld quake, along with the mysterious illness and the death of Ujiro and his contemporaries has shaken the community of Scarlet Haven down to its foundations. Though people are trying to keep on the bright side, Akysl can see the signs of stress, depression, and anxiety beginning to form. Though his actions can act as a salve to the current problem, he fears he can only treat the symptom and not the illness by staying behind. Consequently, he has volunteered to go on the exploratory mission with the belief that he may be able to find a new hope for his people.

Appearance

Aksyl has a willowy build and stands at an average height. His hair is the pale gold of straw and his eyes the vibrant green of lush grass. His skin is a deep, barky brown. his features are always lit by a casual, pleasent smile. His airy presence and personable demeanor enable him to fit in with whatever group he cares to join, and he is always ready with a quick joke, an amusing anecdote, or a friendly greeting. Aksyl dresses in comforting earthtones and is never without a musical instrument or two.
