This is a short synopsis of the events of The Princess Bride. When there are two versions of events, I have used the movie version, primarily because the movie has less detail than the book. This synopsis lacks all depth and emotion. For that stuff go to the source material.
Synopsis
ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup is a beautiful farmer's daughter. ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley is the hired hand. They fall madly in love. ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley goes off to seek his fortune. He gets killed by the Dread Pirate Roberts. ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup is heartbroken. 4 years pass. Prince ThePrincessBride/Story/Humperdink tells her to marry him. ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup consents. ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup is kidnapped by three men, ThePrincessBride/Story/Vizzini, ThePrincessBride/Story/Inigo, and ThePrincessBride/Story/Fezzik. They travel to the neighboring country of ThePrincessBride/Story/Gilder, over waters full of ThePrincessBride/Story/ShriekingEels and up the ThePrincessBride/Story/CliffsOfInsanity, all the while pursued by a fishing boat being operated by the ThePrincessBride/Story/ManInBlack. The ThePrincessBride/Story/ManInBlack defeats ThePrincessBride/Story/Inigo in a duel, discovering that ThePrincessBride/Story/Inigo is hunting the six fingered man who killed ThePrincessBride/Story/Inigo's father. The ThePrincessBride/Story/ManInBlack then defeats ThePrincessBride/Story/Fezzik in a wrestling contest. After defeating and killing ThePrincessBride/Story/Vizzini in a contest of wits, the ThePrincessBride/Story/ManInBlack takes ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup. There is conversation and it is revealed that the ThePrincessBride/Story/ManInBlack is ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley. They run away from Prince ThePrincessBride/Story/Humperdink into the ThePrincessBride/Story/FireSwamp. After almost getting killed several times in the ThePrincessBride/Story/FireSwamp, Prince ThePrincessBride/Story/Humperdink captures ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup and ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley. ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley is taken to the ThePrincessBride/Story/PitOfDispair where he realizes that Count ThePrincessBride/Story/Rugen is the six fingered man. ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup is going to marry Prince ThePrincessBride/Story/Humperdink. ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley is almost killed by Prince ThePrincessBride/Story/Humperdink. ThePrincessBride/Story/Inigo and ThePrincessBride/Story/Fezzik save ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley, via Miracle ThePrincessBride/Story/Max's MiraclePill, so that he can help them get into the castle so that ThePrincessBride/Story/Inigo can get revenge. The party gets into the castle, stops the wedding, saves ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup, kills Count ThePrincessBride/Story/Rugen, and rides off into the sunset. ThePrincessBride/Story/Westley and ThePrincessBride/Story/Buttercup kiss.
If you haven't ever seen the movie or read the book and the above made sense to you, thou art a better person than I. Seriously though, the book and movie are amazing.
