Kelote, the Unfurling of Things

Kelote is a being that embodies Sacheverell's understanding of the passage of the centre of a tale - he is constancy, he is order, he is the passage of things as they should be. In his will, everything stays the same; and in his will, everything is wrapped about with peace, with conflict, with whatever there was when he arrived. Kelote, however, bores easily. And while he loves a situation to stay constant, he cannot abide by constancy. He has forever wished to see a change, to understand how a second state of things can be, but it is in his nature that he will never see such a thing. He can see peace, and he can see battle, but never the resolution of either. He wishes that Sacheverell never wake, for if he does than his role in all of the great tales of Malfeas will only be solidified further. He once heard in a story of Sacheverell's waking days that he could attain his true freedom, that he could discharge his ability, if he were to crush a hundred pearls and drink them. He will never do such a thing, wish for it though he may, as it would be a violation of the very principles that define him.

Kelote has been called he, but this is perhaps not accurate. His body is the frost that grows in cold air. His body is the shell around an oyster. His body is the hundred layers of flesh and bark that hide the center of a tree. He is a crust, an exterior. He can cling to a body, form a new stony skin about them, but this is the closest he can come to a real physical form. He can slow a story with a touch, he can save a dying man, he can maintain peace, but he cannot make a change in the world.

Notes and Abilities: A sorceror may ask Kelote to keep something as it is - a kingdom at peace, a king on the throne, a rival in disgrace. This thing will stay as it is until Kelote wills that it change or a force of equal power act on it. If he has formed a stone skin around a body, then the body he surrounds will be frozen and still, unable to move and without the passage of time affecting them - the only actions taken will be those willed by Kelote. This is the least efficient possibly way to attain immortality. He once formed a shell around a body as the sorceror willed; after a hundred years he grew so weary that he sought out demons powerful enough to slay him, so that he could move on.
