Return to: Lunar Reborn

Authors Note: As with the Great Curse, I will probably wait until the 2nd Edition Lunar manual of power arrives before adding more charms. That being said: Feel free to post charm ideas under the appropriate Attribute categories. Keep in mind that thematically the Reborn are not savage beast men, but rather moon light ninjas. Please adhere to the following theme concepts:

  • Adaptability: e.g. anything with a cool, survival of the fittest vibe.
  • Fluidity: e.g. flowing around obstacles, bypassing armor, etc.
  • Illusions: preferably with a lunacy or phantasmal theme.
  • Limited shape shifting: e.g. adapting specific nocturnal animal traits, appendages. The more dramatic these are, the high up the charm tree they should be.
  • Limited transmutation: e.g. transforming ones skin to moon silver is acceptable.

Stamina Charms

Athene Aspect Assumption

  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

Often called the savant’s owl, these perceptive night hunters are symbols of wisdom throughout much of Creation. Favored by No Moons, the Athene Assumption Charm adds +2 to the Lunar Reborn’s Mental Attributes. The character inflicts lethal damage in unarmed combat as her nails mimic the piercing properties of an owl’s talons, and her eyes become the fierce yellow, slited orbs which allow these predators to see without penalty in low light. After the character has obtained a Permanent Essence of 3, she may spend 4 experience points to permanently upgrade the Charm. This allows her to sprout Owl wings of silver Essence from her back and to move through the air at her dash rate as a normal, reflexive movement action.

At the end of a scene, this Aspect Assumption Charm be extended for an additional scene by expending 1 mote or one point of Temporary Willpower. This may be done for as many scenes as the character has dots in Essence. Afterwards the character must pay the full cost to reactivate the Charm.

Honey Snake Assumption
  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

The golden brown Honey Snake subdues its prey by use of potent perception-altering venom. This subtle hunter is favored by the Waxing Moon Caste, and upon assuming the snake’s aspect, the Lunar adds +2 to her Stamina, Manipulation and Intelligence. The characters forearms and hands are covered by a fine spray of scales which allow her to parry lethal attacks unarmed. The pupils of her eyes change to slits, and her slightly forked tongue allows the Lunar to sense vibrations, suffering no sight penalties regardless of lighting conditions as long as the Lunar is in direct contact with the ground.

After obtaining a Permanent Essence of 3, a Lunar may upgrade this Aspect assumption charm for 4 experience points. This allows the Lunar to produce small amounts of a supernatural poison in her mouth. This venom can be smeared onto a weapon, spit into food, or transmitted via a kiss.

Both skin contact and ingestion affects the target.

A Stamina+Integrity roll is required of the target, with a Difficulty of the Lunar's permanent Essence. If this roll is failed, the target is becomes intensely attracted to the Lunar for a period equal to the Lunar's Conviction in days. He develops an instant Intimacy to the Lunar and will refuse to fight or otherwise oppose her. The target will however defend himself if attacked but a first strike might be in surprise, if the target fails an perception + awareness roll opposed by the lunars appearance + socilalize, as for the usual rules for social surprise. Exalted who fail this roll may spend 2WP to break the unnatural mental influence.

At the end of a scene, this Aspect Assumption Charm be extended for an additional scene by expending 1 mote or one point of Temporary Willpower. This may be done for as many scenes as the character has dots in Essence. Afterwards the character must pay the full cost to reactivate the Charm.

Moon Faced Bear Assumption
  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

These sable ursines tower over all other bears, massing nearly twice as much as the heaviest polar bear and standing a third again taller than the largest grizzly. Jet black in color, they have blunt snouts, and the fur of their faces is silver. This lends them a ghostlike appearance at night, and their prey often freeze with terror after spotting the mask-like visage, seemingly floating nearby in the black air. (Authors Note: the size of these creatures is inspired by the massive short faced bears that roamed Ice Age North America)

The Moon Faced Bear Aspect Assumption is favored by the Full Moon Caste, and causes Lunar to grow in size as he adds muscle. His eyes become as green as emeralds, his face dull silver and mask like, and his body darkens as he sprouts moon silver bear claws from his fingers. He can both inflict and parry lethal damage while unarmed in this form, and with a bear's sense of smell he experiences no penalties for low-light conditions. The Lunar adds 2 dots to Strength, Dexterity and Stamina. After the character obtains a Permanente Essence of 3, she may spend 4 experience points to permanently upgrade his Moon Faced Bear Assumption Charm. In addition to above bonuses, the character doubles his strength for the purposes of Athletic rolls and inflicting damage on inanimate objects when this Charm is active.

At the end of a scene, this Aspect Assumption Charm be extended for an additional scene by expending 1 mote or one point of Temporary Willpower. This may be done for as many scenes as the character has dots in Essence, and afterwards the character must pay the full cost to reactivate the Charm.

Nightshark Aspect Assumption
  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

By dcs666

A dark skinned predator of the western ocean, the Nightshark exclusively hunts at night or in pitch-black deep waters. The shark’s dark-blue hide is almost invisible on the moon lit ocean, and his powerful jaws pierce even the thick hulls of oceangoing vessels. In waters where this predator lives, fishermen are wary of the sea on nights of the full-moon, as Luna’s mien lures these beasts to the surface. Favored by the Full Moon caste, the Nightshark Aspect Assumption Charm adds +2 to Strength, Dexterity and Wits. The sharp teeth allow the lunar to inflict lethal damage with bite attacks, that have Speed 6, Acc 0, +2L, Rate 2. The predator senses allow the Lunar Reborn to smell it's prey, navigating perfectly in total darkness or underwater. Once a Lunar Reborn has gained Essence 3, he can upgrade this charm for 4 experience points. With such an upgraded transformation, the Lunar can breathe underwater and swim without athletic rolls during combat.

Oynx Bat Assumption
  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

The Oynx Bat haunts the woodlands and cities of the South, East and the Blessed Isle. Beloved by the Half Moon caste, the Oynx perceive those things that are hidden in plain sight or behind the veil of darkness. The Bat Assumption Charm adds +2 to a Lunar's Dexterity, Stamina and Perception. The character sprouts talons from his fingers, which can be used to inflict and parry lethal damage in unarmed combat. The Lunars ears become enlarged and pointy, and he is able to perfectly navigate and see in even pitch black darkness by means of echolocation. After the character has obtained a Permanent Essence of 3, he may spend 4 experience to upgrade this charm. This allows him to sprout shadowy bat wings of Essence from his back, which allow movement through the air, at his move rate as a normal, reflexive movement action. Furthermore the cost of all perception based charms is reduced by 1 mote, to a minimum of 1 mote, while this form is active. At the end of a scene, this Aspect Assumption Charm be extended for an additional scene by expending 1 mote or one point of Temporary Willpower. This may be done for as many scenes as the character has dots in Essence. Afterwards the character must pay the full cost to reactivate the Charm.

Silver Fox Assumption
  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

Shinning silver from nose to tail, these vulpines are so cunning that many mistake them for sapient spirits. Diplomats and merchants as well as assassins and thieves make sacrifices to avatar deities of these creatures, hoping to be endowed with some aspect of the animals’ shrewdness. The Silver Fox Assumption is often favored by members of the Waxing and Waning Moon Castes.

The Silver Fox Assumption Charm grants the character a +2 bonus to his Social Attributes, and with keen vulpine eyes the character experinces no penalties for low-light conidtions. Upgrading this Charm at Essence 3 causes the character to become even more steeped in the fox's trickster nature, granting the character an additional 2 dice to all manipulation and social combat rolls while this Aspect Assumption Charm is active.

At the end of a scene, this Aspect Assumption Charm be extended for an additional scene by expending 1 mote or one point of Temporary Willpower. This may be done for as many scenes as the character has dots in Essence. Afterwards the character must pay the full cost to reactivate the Charm.

Shadow Lion Aspect Assumption
  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Stamina 1
  • Essence: 2
  • Type: reflexive
  • Keywords: Aspect Assumption
  • Duration: 1 Scene
  • Prerequisite Charms: None

The Shadow Lion is one of the most feared predators of the southeastern jungles. Despite its rarity, encounters with the lion are memorable, and the legends of several tribes speak of this hunter’s might and grace. Depending on light conditions, its dark fur ranges in color from a deep blue-black to greenish hues. This trait provides a camouflage that compliments the beast’s preternatural agility. Favored by the Waning Moon caste, the Shadow Lion Aspect Assumption Charm adds +2 to Dexterity, Appearance and Wits. The sharp claws that grace the Lunar Reborn's hand inflict lethal damage, and the cat’s amber colored eyes remove all vision penalties due to low lighting conditions. Once a Lunar Reborn has obtained a Permanent Essence of 3, he can upgrade this charm for 4 experience points. Such an improved transformation imbues the Exalt with the predatory grace and camouflage of the lion, affecting his skin, clothing and equipment. This Essence effect adds 2 automatic successes for Stealth rolls during low light conditions. At the end of a scene, this Aspect Assumption Charm can be extended for an additional scene by expending 1 mote or one point of Temporary Willpower. This may be done for as many scenes as the character has dots in Essence. Afterwards the character must pay the full cost to reactivate the Charm.

Multiple Apparition Prana

  • Cost: 4m:
  • Mins: Perception 4

  • Type: reflexive (step 2)

  • Duration: 1 Instant
  • Prerequisite Charms: Last Charm in a Charm Tree of defensive illusion Charms

When his enemy strikes at him, the Lunar Reborn character explodes into a silver flare of light, sending a chaotic swarm of doppelganger images weaving away from the blow. In combat involving multiple opponents, the images pass through or around the bodies of the Lunar Reborn’s enemies, and adversaries have mistakenly struck down their own allies when this Charm has been invoked.

The Lunar player declares his intention to employ this Charm at step 2 of the combat resolution process. After the attacker rolls to hit, the Reborn player rolls his character’s Perception + Dodge pool. A singles success perfectly defeats the attack, as the attacker harmlessly strikes one of the false images. Should the Reborn player roll more successes than the attacker, the attacker’s blow is directed toward his nearest ally, if one is within range. Such a victim may defend normally.

Thoughts on Mass Combat Charms for the Lunar Reborn

The reborn are the complimentary opposites of the Solar Exalted. Where the War Charms of the Sun’s Chosen allow them to inspire their soldiers, to overcome the difficulties of battlefield communications, and to know the status of their units as if they were an extension of the Solar’s body, the mass combat magics of the Lunar Reborn specialize in misdirection.

Lunar mass combat Perception charms invoke effects such as:

  • Masking the size and composition of units
  • Disguising the trail of a unit during cross country marches. Talons and Dragons leave no sign of any passage, while a Legion leaves the tracks and refuse of a Dragon sized formation.
  • Camouflaging a unit, allowing it to ambush other formations despite being in an open environment.
