Ashen Skies of Disaster Style: Tumult

By Shakenzerite

Background

Creation is powerful. By a mere difference in heat or pressure across the countryside, or a coast, cities can be pounded with storms, and villages can be flooded or leveled under a wave of volcanic mud. Not even the Manses of the Chosen are built to withstand their own pressures when the geomancy is altered... or the Essence is trapped inside them and eventually produces as a spectacularly deadly display of pyrotechnics. Even setting aside the Wyldstorms for natural disasters results in a terrifying force of palpable energy that can level even the Blessed Isle. This Style goes along well if you happen to have contacts in the Bureau of Natural Disasters - at least, its effects are less distinct when the Aerial Legion accompanies the Agent of Fate, and it is absolutely necessary to use one of the Charms. Otherwise, the blame is too easily affixed to an individual.

Equipment Usage

Ashen Skies of Disaster Style is not compatible with any kind of armor or hand to hand weapon, but slings, shuriken and arrows have all been incorporated into the exercises of the form; even so, they have their limitations. Assume that the form-type Charm and the Charms past it cannot be used with even those compatible homages to the destruction that the wind can wreak. Also, some of the student charms would not be conducive to the use of weapons, as per their descriptions.

Charms

Student’s Sutra of Tumult: Once, there was a maiden…

Brooding Essence Saturation</b>

<b>Cost: 5 motes

Whose homeland was once prosperous

Essence is in all things – the air, the land, the water, and of course, in living things. By pushing the manner of its interaction so that it collects around certain areas, it can even bleed into the physical parts of the world and into the martial artist breathing it in. While using this charm, the Exalt can be plainly seen breathing in Essence through respiration as it collects into his breath, recharging as if he were resting, only many times faster, recovering eight motes per turn.

Dance of the Burning Sky</b>

But in the ravaging heat of a summer,

The wildfires and firestorms that rage in the southern reaches of Creation are a danger that not even the Chosen can bear for very long. Essence concentrates heat and fire while the Exalted martial artist performing this Charm goes through a series of kata that make all around catch fire; the end result is that everyone within the Exalt’s Essence in yards suffer a magically enhanced environmental form of damage, equal to a bonfire, with a difficulty to resist increased by the Exalt’s Essence and the damage for a successful or failed roll increased by his Martial Arts. Furthermore, the vacuum created from the air being sucked into the flames will pull in those up to ten times the affected distance’s length away with such speed that they are in the field of effect the following turn; a Difficulty 5 Strength + Athletics roll is necessary to stay in place. Acting as normal in the field of effect for any but the martial artist using the Charm also requires a difficulty 5 Stamina + Endurance roll from the lack of air, and most non-magical beings should not be able to even attempt the roll.

Essence-Circuit Disabling Blow</b>

The lands did not deliver them with a harvest,

Many Chosen rely upon the power of Hearthstones, but by disrupting something in the attunement of the device that the Hearthstone is set into, a martial artist schooled in the ways of disaster and tumult may strip them of their powerful and great talismans. After a successful attack, the Exalt rolls his Essence + Martial Arts against the victim’s Essence + the rating of the Hearthstone – success on the part of the attacker means that for the next five turns, the bearer of the Hearthstone cannot use its powers. Furthermore, he must wait another hour before he can gain Essence from the stone. If used on First Age flying machines or war striders, the result will probably not be good for those inside the vehicle in question.

Fimbulwinter Marauding Technique</b>
<b>Cost: 20 motes, 1 Willpower

While the winter winds froze many citizens where they stood,

Channeling the cold, stiff energies of the blizzards of the far north, the martial artist may make his attacks far more insidiously dangerous than they may initially seem. A successful Martial Arts attack from an Exalt using this Charm causes the victim to suffer from exposure and frostbite; Exalts and other magical beings merely suffer a dice pool penalty equal to the martial artist’s Martial Arts rating, while most mortals have all their dice pools halved from having most of their body freeze solid and desiccate. Additionally, after the scene is over, mortals struck with the effects of this Charm must receive immediate medical attention or die from hypothermia, or other, worse fates, such as gas gangrene. Roll the character’s Stamina + Endurance, difficulty 5, to determine how many hours they can go before expiring afterwards. Magical beings will merely “thaw out” and have the penalty dropped.

Deadly Seismic Fist Concentration</b>
<b>Cost: 8 motes
Type: Simple
Duration: One Scene
Min. Martial Arts: 5
Min. Essence: 4
Prereqs: None

And the earth shook and spewed fire and ash

Taking the power of an erupting volcano or breaking fault into his own, the martial artist may make strikes that hit with considerably more force than before. Add his Martial Arts rating to the damage that he makes with hand to hand attacks, and add his Essence rating to the difficulty to remain standing. Double the damage that his unarmed attacks do against inanimate objects.

Lahars-and-Flooding Method</b>
<b>Cost: 20 motes, 1 Willpower, 1 health level, +1 mote per attack
Type: Simple
Duration: One Scene
Min. Martial Arts: 5
Min. Essence: 4
Prerequisite Charms: Deadly Seismic Fist Concentration, Burning Sky Strike, Fimbulwinter Marauding Technique

The heat proved no relief from the glacial encasement

Sweeping his enemies up like a tide of storm water or from a mudslide of boiling, lava-heated watery soil, the Exalt may add an increased deadliness even more straightforward than that of Deadly Seismic Fist Concentration’s. Damage from the character is doubled after rolling for the duration of the scene, though to gain this function, the Exalt must pay an additional mote. This counts as his Charm use for the turn, and this function of Lahars-and-Flooding Method may explicitly be comboed with other Charms.

Tracks of the Storm</b>

And summoned forth wrath from the sky

Racing along with his entire movement rate, the Exalt using this Charm stirs the air around him into a deadly hole in the sky. His disturbance of the air loads it with electrical sparks of Essence that shock any around him with lightning bolts, and by running around a set area for more than a turn, can produce a howling vortex to buffet the area for as long as he remains mobile. The lightning does the twice Exalt’s Essence in lethal damage, and will strike any character within ten yards of the Exalt that moves once per action they take. The vortex produced by a sustained sprint can affect an area with a radius up to the Exalt’s Essence in yards, doing 6L every turn, which can be soaked normally. Note that the Exalt must always keep moving, or this Charm’s effects end.

Ashen Skies of Disaster Form</b>

As the waters of the Maiden’s of the village came up into the air and crushed it

Drawing upon the phenomenon of the gravity wave, the martial artist harnessing this Form type Charm plays with forces that could devastate more than just a few combatants. The Essence channeled into the Form’s postures pulls water into the air, until the air’s fluid nature is patently obvious, and then causes violent ripples in the air around the Exalt, resulting in a variety of helpful effects. The martial artist may parry all ranged attacks in a turn with one reflexive roll, as a spherical ripple cascades through the air and knocks even ballista bolts and streams of Essence or fire off course. Those attempting to engage the Exalt in hand to hand combat also find that their blows are softened from the resistance that the very environment is giving them, halving any successes made in combat against the Exalt that is using the Ashen Skies of Disaster Form. This Charm is incompatible with armor, and abides by the typical Form-type Charm restrictions.

The Elder Sutra of Tumult: The maiden saw a butterfly…
Butterfly Flaps Her Wings</b>
<b>Cost: 10 motes
Type: Simple
Duration: One Turn
Min. Martial Arts: 6
Min. Essence: 6
Prereqs: Ashen Skies of Disaster Form

Whose wings brought storms to life

With but a moment’s less than intense concentration, storms may be brought forward to flatten the enemies of the Exalt, and anyone else who gets in his way. Every punch, every kick, every movement invites a howling gale to rip buildings from the ground. All attacks made by the martial artist are accompanied by a localized extreme weather phenomenon, which acts as an unblockable attack doing 20L damage. Note that soak may be able to reduce this damage to zero, if it is high enough.

Torrent of Edged Quicksilver</b>
<b>Cost: 20 motes, 1 Willpower

Prereqs: Butterfly Flaps Her Wings

And sentenced many to death

Pouring Essence into a series of razor-edged, liquid metal blades that fall as daggers from the clouds of the Underworld as they leave his hands and multiply into the tens of thousands, the Exalt may make a number of attacks against any number of opponents out to his (Essence times ten) yards equal to his Essence rating. Each one of these attacks is made with a hail of projectiles that doubles the dice pool of the Dexterity + Martial Arts attack made to hit and renders the attack undodgeable. The damage done by these attacks is always lethal.

Incinerating Indigo Flash Technique</b>

And whose eyes reduced those watching to ashes.

With a sudden flash of violet lightning and bolts of searing light, emitted from the Exalt’s anima as if from a storm, Essence is pushed into a small pocket in an area of the Exalt’s Essence in kilometers. By holding it and paying the Charm’s cost for multiple turns, an Exalt may expand this distance, adding a factor of 3 for every turn so spent, but once released and the Exalt bursts out of his serene, calm and focused state, everything within the affected distance from the Exalt is bathed in a violet light and burnt to ashes. Any Manses encountered by the wave of light will extend the explosion’s blast radius as if the Sidereal had spent a number of turns focusing the Charm equal to the Manse’s rating, while uncapped Demenses can shield those within their bounds. Any Manses so encountered, however, also have their architecture blasted from the explosion. Perfect defenses may only defend against this effect if used by an Exalt of Essence 4 or higher.

Comments

YOu may want to check the Format Standards so that this is more readable. I didn't go through it, but the concept looks nice. We need another ranged MA. - Telgar

His formatting was correct save for the spaces in front of the top few lines -- I can imagine they're easy to miss if they're not explicitly mentioned, which I don't think they are. Considering the relative simplicity of the error, though, it'd have been easier for you to fix it and just mention it, rather than having it take multiple steps. That's part of the beauty of the Wiki's openness. Regardless, it's no trouble, so I did it instead. _Jabberwocky

Ah, I didnt look to see it was just that. If I had seen, I'd have fixed it. - Telgar

Much thanks for the confidence vote and the coding pointer. - Shakenzerite
