First Age Lunars

Leading the Armies of Creation

Although Lunars are not the best generals in Creation, they are probably the best right-hand men and battlefield champions. See LunarsAreFine/FullMoons for their potential as heroes and champions, and LunarsAreFine/ChangingMoons for leading units of soldiers.

Modern Lunars

Things that modern Lunars do.

Attacking the Realm

  • Lunars have access to Celestial Circle sorcery. Dragon-Blooded only have access to Terrestrial Circle. The best DB sorcerer cannot counter Celestial sorcery, and only the best DB will survive a concerted Lunar attack. Imagine sneaking into a Terrestrial social function in animal shape, then enacting Magma Kraken while the highborn are dancing - particularly if you can lock or otherwise secure the doors beforehand. Do the DBs wear jade daiklaves and armor to upper-crust functions? We're going to find out. If some survivors escape, they will fall to the Full Moons waiting outside (or to the Changing Moons - the right Charm lets you emulate a human being, Terrestrial or not...)
  • Combat-oriented Lunars can easily challenge Terrestrial Exalts on a one-on-one basis, and can often defeat two or more a a time depending on their power level. Against a Terrestrial's mortal army, Cantata of Empty Voices or simply a horde of barbarians and beastmen.
  • The Blessed Isle (and its numerous and probably efficacious defenses) aside, Lunars can disrupt the shipping and commerce that regularly take place between the Realm and its Threshold client-states. Either in animal form or via their Charms, Lunars can sink ships, which are the vital lifeline for commodities and wealth flowing to the Isle. Further, sinking those vessels in deep enough water effectively whittles down the number of potential scavengers to a very short list, and the Lunars are at the head of that list.

Attacking Civilization

  • Attacks against the Guild and other organized slavers

Barbarian Nations

  • Building up and patronizing barbarian tribes

Defending Creation

  • Opposition to the Deathlords?
  • Attacks against the Fair Folk

Magical Assets and Alliances

  • The Realm does not sit around guarding moonsilver deposits the way they do with orichalcum, and there are many very experienced No Moons still alive - many of them will not have forgotten the secrets of the First Age. In practical terms, this means a higher availability of Moonsilver artifacts, and the reason that the Artifact background is priced as such for Lunars is that items of power are not casually handed over to beginning characters.
  • Lunars have as much access to Heaven as any other Celestial, and certainly more than the Terrestrials have. While the Sidereals may have a strong amount of influence, the Lunars are not helpless (unless they are in YOUR game, but that's your business) and can certainly negotiate with gods and spirits.

Whatever They Want

Comments

On attacking the realm, I can't quote a page but I am sure that yes infact the Dragon Blodded to carry their weapons at fancy dress parties and in fact they use artifacts much the same way celebrities use fancy jewlery covered with diamonds, as an expensive status symbol. -- Blackedout

It was more a semi-humorous lead-in to the "we're about to find out" remark, since GCG as said things like "this is why the Exalted bring their daiklaves to dinner" :) Good observation. -- BillGarrett
In anime at least, it's in-genre. It's strangely out of genre for persian legends and things, although if you're expecting hostility, sure. But hey, it's fun, so they do!

In my games, it depends on where you are. No DB social function in the Threshold would be complete without weapons and armor stashed SOMEWHERE close, while on the Blessed Isle you provide less tangible protection by heavily pre-screening your guest list. -- BillGarrett
