Jala, The Embodiment Of Restoration

The Parable Of The Rain

Once, there was a small pool, nestled in a valley between a group of mountains. He was dry, and tired, and feared that he might fade away entirely. One day, as the pool sat still and nearly dry, it began to rain, filling it to its banks. And the pool was soothed.

The rains continued, and the banks of the pool began to rise. As the rains receded, they revealed a lovely lake, where animals came to drink their fill. And the rains came again, and the lake was replenished from all the water that it had lost. And he was soothed.

The lake continued to grow as the rains filled him, always adding more than the heat of summer and the thirsty beasts could take away. Soon, he filled the valley, and splashed over the edges of the places where the mountains met. He was a great and mighty lake, always refilled by the returning rains, and he looked down at himself and saw that he need never fade. And he was soothed.

And one day, the great lake grew beyond its bounds, and rocks and earth gave way before him. A raging flood poured down the mountainside in the heavy rain, washing away everything that stood before it. In his wake, he left smooth rock and polished stone, and for a time he feared that he might spread out and be lost; but the rains continued to pour, and he only grew as he spread outwards. And he was soothed.

And the flood rushed down to the sea, where the waters of the lake mixed with those of the endless ocean. And now the once-tiny pond was a part of the endless waters of the world, his essence joined to that of the great sea. And he looked over his infinite domain, knowing that this water would never weaken, never be reduced. And he was soothed.
