Unbaring the Gates of Brass and Ivory
Cost: 10 motes, 1 Permanent Willpower
Type: Simple
Duration: Instant
Minimum Occult: 4
Minimum Essence: 3
Prerequisite Charms: ???

By invoking this Charm, the Infernal is committing the ultimate act of treason. They are inviting a demon back into Creation, freeing it of it's old obligations, and untying the knot around the Yozi's name a little more. Doing so isn't easy, however- which is quite fortunate, all thinger considered.

Using Unbaring the Gates of Brass and Ivory provides a chance to summon a Demon back into creation. The base difficulty is the Circle of the Demon mulitplied by the Demon's Permanent Essence- for these purposes, the Yozis themselves are considered to typically have an Essence of 20 or higher, and to be of the Fifth, rather than the Fourth Circle. The dicepool to perform the summons starts at 0- it can be built in the following ways.

  • The ritual sacrafice of mortals adds dice at a progressively slower rate. 1 Mortal adds 1 die, 2 more adds another die, three more adds a third, and so on.
  • The same sacrafoce of Terrestrial Exalted adds that number of dice multipled by the Highest Breeding of that lot of Dragonblooded being sacraficed (Minimum of 1). So, the first sacrafice of an Breeding 2 Dragonblooded is 2 dice, then the next sacrafice of an Breeding 0 and 3 Dragonblooded is 6 additional dice, and the sacrafice of a Breeding 0, 1, and 5 is 15 additional dice, and so on.
  • The sacrafice of any Celestial Exalted or God adds a number of dice equal to the twice the victim's Permanent Essence.

If all the subjects in a lot are willing and eager victims, then their contributed dice are doubled. This collected power manifests as a swirling green anima around the Infernal, expended in a massive rush when the Infernal uses the Charm. The preparatory anima is treated as having spent 10 motes of Periphereal Essence at all times- the Infernal can give it up as a Reflexive Action, undoing all that they have so far collected, at any time; they are unable to damp it in any way, however.

Demons summoned with this Charm are under no obligation to be either thankful or perform any service for the Infernal. They're simply freed and set loose upon Creation.

(So, wanna bring Malfaes back to the world? All it'll take is approximately 400 dice; that's just a hair over 80,000 mortals ritually sacraficed. Or a lot fewer Highly Bred Dragonblooded...)

I think this really ought to be a spell, not a charm. This is beyond the sort of things charms are supposed to do. As a spell, it's hot stuff. Probably Celestial or Solar circle. As a charm I think it breaks what charms are supposed to be - Seraph

Agreed. Very Cool Spell. (Solar Circle, mind you). Not really that great as a charm (of Essence 3!!!). - nikink
