Charm Writeups

Charm ideas and Commentary

If we're lining up Virtues with Abilities, Craft should use Compassion. --MUrielw

I want there to be a high level Craft Charm that does this:

Resplendent Slave Breeding Method

Cost: 20 motes, 2 Willpower
Duration: One Caibration
Type: Simple
Min. Craft: 4
Min Essence: 4
Prereqs: At least fourth tier

The Infernal sits and meditates for a moment and at the instant of midnight at the start of Calibration he begins to gather Essence and raw materials from the environment around him. He then activates this Charm and pays the cost. Almost instantly the Infernal is left with a smooth black egg the size of a large dog, one that pulses with unnatural cold. He may leave or carry the egg as he pleases but it is remarkably fragile (no soak, two health levels to destroy). The Essence for this Charm remains commited for the entirety of Calibration, during which time the egg grows larger and larger, consuming raw materials from around it via a sickening form of osmosis and feeding of the vibrant emotions of its creator.

At the end of calibration the egg hatches and a new First Circle demon is born. This creature will be a unique being, whose nature is determined from the raw materials it was made with and whose personality and powers will depend on the Infernal who created it. For every time the Infernal is forced to make a Virtue roll (as opposed to voluntarily) the demon has one dot in the apporpriate Virtue, to a minimum of one and a maximum of five. The demon is loyal to the Infernal who created it within the limits of its nature and intelligence. To an extent the Infernal can control what kind of being he creates. Make a Essence + Craft roll, each success allows the Infernal to select one Charm the demon will have, on Ability the demon will have with at least four dots in it, or one Attribute the demon will have with at least three dots in it. If he makes no successes the demon has a number of Abilities selected by the Storyteller at between 2-3 dots and a few random Attributes at 2-3 dots, plus random Charms equal to the Infernals permanent Essence. The demon's permanent Essence is 2.

This demon is as susceptiable to summoning as any first circle demon, but since it is unique most Sorcerers wil be unaware of its existence. If created inside Creation (or some other realm such as Autochthon) the demon is consdired native to that place, and will not cause unnatural reactions by its very presence. The demon may be able to replicate itself, provided it has some means to do so.Epsilon

Whose soul does the demon belong to? What Yozi, rather? The Ebon Dragon? Or is it a soul of no one? Rememeber, Yozi can temporarily take command of demons, even First Circle ones. Does having no upper Souls mean that the demon can be commandeered by any Yozi? -- Spider
Likely whatever Yozi owns the Infernal. Epsilon
This seems more either... The Grace-forged servants of the Raksha, or some Sorcery. Maybe it's cause of the isolation, but it doesn't look right in Craft. Charms shouldn't be usable once a year. DS
The Raksha Charms of the same type were the inspiration. If the once a year thing bothers you, junk it and make the Charm cost an experience point. But if my Infernal can't create demons I simply don't want to play one. ;p Epsilon
Well, there's always Investiture of Infernal Glory, a.k.a. Navy SEAL Training Technique. ;) --MUrielw
I'm gonna go with DS on this. While cool, it's not really charm-ish. At the same time, however, perhaps another 'feel' that could be put in would be crafting things to their 'proper' state? Hence, you truly could 'bring out' the statue in a hunk of rock, but only if that's what the rock should be. Perhaps your craft roll is not to forge the item, but to instead find the right pile of iron to turn into a perfect sword - hence, a Perception+Craft roll? -- GreenLantern, never willing to say no without giving an alternative
Seem to foward and dircet to me - Infernals are backwards creatures. - Dasmen
Yeah, but that's mucho thematic. I suppose there's a way the weirdness level can be cranked up, or the general concept applied to different things in weird ways. Like - this might work as Craft, maybe Medicine, maybe Resistance; I don't really know - you chisel your own heart out of a rock. You take a rock, a suitable one, and chisel at it at until you've chiseled away everything but your heart, the true one. You place it in some place, and sometime later, when some Celestinist villain stabs you through the ribcage, you laugh and kill them, returning to place your true heart in your body for the first time. There can be things like that. But I don't see the problem with general-usage Craft charms having this thematic as well. --MUrielw

There should be a Craft charm that creates a single, unstable hun soul for the express purpose of serving as a suitable sacrifice in rituals if no humans are avaliable. Naturally, it would be a prerequisite to anything else that creates something ensouledish. --MUrielw

These ideas are cool - Dasmen on the same banwidth for onceBoXPInfernalsCraft/I>
Heh. We are disagreeing a lot, but I think we're doing it constructively. ;) --MUrielw
Sounds good to me. So 'Craft' for Infernals is what 'Occult' is for anyone else? --Kukla
Nope. It's not under Craft because it's creating ritual components, but because it's creating stuff (or "finding" it in something else.) Like any other splat Infernals should be able to do with various Charms what others can only do with Sorcery, but Craft should still be an extension of creating things, War of directing people in battle, &c., even if all those things recieve their own spin and branch out into weird and metaphorical dimensions. --MUrielw
