Life Binding Needles

Artifact Level ~ 3 or 4
Commitment ~ 6 or 15

Life Binding Needles are cunningly wrought devices which can halt the passing of the soul from the body. There are two commonly known designs: The Soul Tying Thread and the Seven Points Life Anchor.

Soul Tying Thread is the weaker of the two wonders, but easier to craft. The wonder consists of two slender needles fashion from Orichalcum with a short length of thread made from braiding Moonsilver and Starmetal attatched to each. The user attunes the artifact for 6 motes and pierces his flesh with one of the needles. Properly placing the needle requires a miscellaneous (7/-3) difficulty 3 Perception + (Occult or Medicine) action. Once placed the bearer simply needs to insert the other needle into another person, using a similar roll, to activate the artifact. While activated, the Soul Tying Thread Binds the life and Fates of the two needle bearers. The benefit being that the recipient can draw on the energy of the artifact's user. As a result the recipient will never drop below his last dying health level, so long as there is some piece of his body left big enough for the needle to be lodged in. Once the recipient drops below dying, a toll is exacted from the artfiact's user. At the end of each season he suffers an unsoakble, unhealable level of aggravated damage, which will persist until the artifact is no longer attuned. While the Soul Tying Thread can halt death, it does nothing to help with healing or recovery.

The Seven Points Life Anchor is a more powerful version of the Soul Tying Thread. Instead of tying another's life to the artifact's user, it ties it directly to Creation. The Seven Points Life Anchor is actually seven needles, one for each type of Jade, plus an Orichalcum and Starmetal needle. The threads are braided Moonsilver and Soulsteel. Unlike the Soul Tying Thread, the Seven Points Life Anchor cannot be employed preventatively, it will only activate if used on someone who is already dying. Similarly, the needles must be precisely placed, although due the stronger nature of this wonder the acceptable points are larger and the process can be done more quickly, requiring only a miscellaneous (3/-3) action per needle. The artifact must be attuned for 15 motes before it can be used. As its weaker counterpart, the Seven Points Life Anchor prevents a target from dropping below his last dying health level so long as there is enough left to stick the needles into. And, like the Soul Tying Thread, the Seven Points Life Anchor does nothing to help with recovery.
