Bracers Of The Dauntless Champion

Artifact 3, Attunement 4

These bracers were first worn by the Dawn Caste warrior Malic, a great champion in the First Age. Malic was not overfond of armour, and tended to fight with little protection. Fearing for his safety, a Zenith caste craftswoman named Ezari Khadeen made this pair of orichalcum bracers for him. Malic was pleased by the gift, and wore them for his entire life. When he died, they vanished with his body, and are presumed to be buried with his corpse.

The bracers are, in appearance, a pair of orichalcum hearthstone bracers, with one hearthstone socket on the left bracer and a crystal set into the right; grooves drawn into them seem to reflect the light, creating pathways that mimic veins across the wearer's forearm. They draw a modicum of power from any Hearthstone set into them, sending energy from it directly into protecting the wearer.

Any Hearthstone set into these bracers provides only (Hearthstone rating) motes per hour, rather than (Hearthstone rating x2). However, the character gains the following benefits:

  • The character adds +2 damage to her attacks, as per a normal orichalcum hearthstone bracer
  • Bashing, Lethal, and Aggravated soak equal to the Hearthstone's rating. This soak is considered to be natural for the purpose of effects that ignore armor, and armor for the purpose of effects that ignore natural soak. This stacks fully with both armor and natual soak from other sources.
  • Any character attacking the wearer with either a physical or social attack suffers a die pool penalty equal to the hearthstone's rating. This replaces the normal bracer's dodge bonus.

Comments

Uhm, wow. The soak isn't terribly impressive but that penalty to an attacker is nasty. - MoonSword

Especially when used by someone also using Snake Form. There needs to be more artifacts that use hearthstone ratings for things. - Wordman
Yeah, it was one of the things I really liked about the Skin-Mount Amulet. I'll have to see if there's anything else that springs to mind for them. - FrivYeti
