JungleBook log 1 (preplan)

This is just the preliminary get-together-and-make-Roger-excited session.

Session Start (gryphon.magicstar.net:#StayAtHomeMoms): Thu Apr 28 15:28:19 2005

  • You are now talking to channel #stayathomemoms

<Domino> Cheers

<Ikselam> Hey, P!

  • dissolvegirl (dissolvegi@Magicstar-36722.knology.net) has joined channel #stayathomemoms

<dissolvegirl> Hey.

<Ikselam> Okay.

<Ikselam> Let's get right down to business.

<Domino> My parents give their love.

<Ikselam> Did I ever actually meet your parents?

<Domino> At my graduation, but they don't actually know with whom I'm speaking.

<Ikselam> I know I got their newsletter a few times.

<Domino> It's probably being sent to your parents, now.

<dissolvegirl> Your parents have a newsletter?

...

<Domino> So much for getting right down to business. =)

<Ikselam> I think comments were made regarding how chatty and rambling I am when I'm extremely tired.

<Ikselam> Right.

<Domino> I was looking at the old Da Game files last weekend.

<Ikselam> Heh.

<Domino> Whoops. On topic!

<Domino> Lazar focus!

<Ikselam> We couldn't play Da Game unless I roped Gallagher into it, anyway.

<Ikselam> It wouldn't be right otherwise.

<Domino> (I'm listening to this cd of cool music you burned for me, too. Re-found it last weekend also.)

<Ikselam> One of the V-day cds?

<Domino> I've never played with Gallagher! I wanna play with Gallagher!

<Domino> Nope; earlier.

<Domino> Has flcl and morricone on it, among others.

<Domino> I love me some morricone.

<Ikselam> I see him online all the time but never talk to him. Maybe some night I'll have a sudden dip in apathy level and ask him if he still hasn't played Exalted.

<Ikselam> Wow, that was a while ago.

<Ikselam> Oh, that would be the "game soundtrack" CD?

<Ikselam> And SPEAKING OF GAMES!

<Domino> Yeah. I kind of "lost it" on top of our bookshelf, which I was cleaning last-

<Domino> GAMES!

<Ikselam> Do you have any kind of extra-special hankering for a character type, a setting, whatever.

<Ikselam> Elizabeth loves Sidereals but also has a Solar she might not be opposed to playing. She mentioned a mystery might be fun.

<Domino> A mystery could be tons of fun.

<dissolvegirl> I am all about whodunits and intregue.

<Ikselam> This caused me to turn over the idea of a Yu-Shan noir detective adventure.

<Domino> Of course, it would have to be Byzantine and filled with Essence-users, or Solars would tear right through it.

<Domino> I tend toward Solars.

...

<Domino> Onward: Let's play somewhere in the West. I've never actually played in the West.

<Ikselam> Heh.

<dissolvegirl> I don't like the West.

<dissolvegirl> Well, no, that's inaccurate.

<dissolvegirl> I've never played in the West. But I dislike pirates when it comes to RPGs.

<Ikselam> Would it be okay if there were no pirates?

<Domino> Wait, I think once. With Hal. But it was full of throwing harpoons at sea monsters and landing on ghost islands. Okay, so it was kind of cool. But it was only a single whatsit. Session.

<Domino> Who needs pirates?

<Ikselam> That was the Moby Dick game, right?

<Domino> Yup.

<Ikselam> I think I heard about that.

<Domino> Everything Hal knows about running games in the West, he learned from Moby Dick.

<dissolvegirl> I could be okay with that, simply out of morbid curiousity on how you'd run a game in the West without dealing with pirates.

<Ikselam> I'm more into big Easter Island heads and volcano gods.

<Domino> Easy: My character will know Brilliant Flaming Raptor.

<dissolvegirl> Hee.

<Ikselam> Pirate-Slaying Burst Attack

<Domino> "That looks like a pirate ship." "No, that looks like a burning patch of ocean."

<Ikselam> (counterpart of Ninja-Dissolving Attitude)

<Ikselam> Or get that silly Survival Charm from Zenith that lets you rain down solar fire.

<Domino> Volcano heads! Easter Island gods!

  • Domino does not like that Charm.

<Ikselam> The downside to this is that I can't see how I would make noir happen in the West.

<Ikselam> At least, in the parts of the West which interest me.

<dissolvegirl> But it's so intuitive, see! You survive by SETTING THINGS ON FIRE.

<Ikselam> It starts out reasonable.

<Ikselam> Like, lighting campfires.

<Ikselam> Then makes that intuitive leap to tactical airstrikes.

<dissolvegirl> It's the same thing as if someone put a gun to your head and forced you to make creme brulee.

<Domino> It's reasonable until you are attacking people with your Survival skill.

<Domino> I'm open to the North, I guess.

<Ikselam> Don't get me wrong, I love the West.

<Domino> You could have good mystery in Whitewall or Ge- Gsame - that other city.

<Ikselam> But I'll say ahead of time that I'd like to not run a rectangle-trotting game.

<Ikselam> Gethamane.

<Domino> "Rectangle-trotting?"

<dissolvegirl> If we do the North, Roger gets to think of horrible things to do to his archnemesis, Yurgen Kaneko!

<Ikselam> It's not a globe.

<Domino> Point?

<Domino> Oh. Nevermind.

<Ikselam> Well, more like you get to find out how I totally ignore everything printed about him so far.

<Domino> You mean his sorceress girlfriend can't cast Solar Circle Sorcery?

<dissolvegirl> You don't like how the superhuman barbarian teamed up with the australian elves to beat back the kung-fu hordes?

<Ikselam> I mean that he's actually like three or four guys, and that they destroyed the Tepet legions basically by accident.

<Ikselam> Also, this happened in the NORTH, not anywhere near Halta.

<Domino> Besides, I don't think that he (or any of him) have actually taken a major city, meaning that a social, intrigue-based game is relatively safe.

<Ikselam> Several Bulls of the North were on their way to fight each other, and Arada and his armies just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

<Domino> Right, I recall your theory now.

<Ikselam> There was Yurgen, Bison-Totem guy, and Son-of-Ahlat guy.

<Ikselam> But back on topic, sort of.

<Ikselam> Imagine your character lives on a tropical island.

<Ikselam> What does s/ he do?

<Ikselam> And why does s/ he live there?

<Ikselam> I like tropical western isles a lot better than the north.

<Ikselam> Running a game in the north in any season other than winter would feel wrong!

<Domino> S/ he serves as a political diplomat for and advisor to the Feathered One, dealing with representatives from other islands, including the Evil Dead Island?

<Ikselam> So you would want to paddle your canoe around to other islands and meet interesting people?

<Domino> I'm just playing with ideas?

<Ikselam> I think I could get into two basic types of games right now: a film noir mystery-type thing, as previously mentioned, and a go-places-see-sights exploration game, like the last game I ran.

<Ikselam> SUre, throw out ideas.

<Ikselam> Nothing you say here is binding, since technically I still haven't said I'm running anything.

<Ikselam> We all know that I almost certainly AM, but the main goal here is to just get me excited.

<dissolvegirl> Ummm. An interpreter from the Realm that got left behind in a minor shipwreck, and is now trying to adjust to more primitive life on a small island?

<Ikselam> Could be Tarzan and Jane!

<dissolvegirl> Ha.

<Ikselam> Exploring the ruins of the Lost City!

<Domino> A noble and studious savage who has decided to catalogue all forms of island life, and is accidentally caught up in intrigue and murder!?

<Ikselam> Suddenly I think it would be hilarious/ awesome to try and stage a murder mystery in a setting cribbed from the Jungle Book.

<Domino> Sounds decent to me.

<dissolvegirl> Sure.

<Ikselam> Be sure that if you think an idea sounds dumb, or like something you'd rather not do, you say so.

<Ikselam> Ideally followed by a suggestion of what you would like to do.

<Domino> How would a murder mystery fit into the Jungle Book?

<Ikselam> Beats the hell out of me!

<Domino> Mogli, having been raised by wolves and accepted by most of the animals of the forest, suddenly finds himself the foremost suspect when Kahn the tiger is mysteriously slain.

<Ikselam> But having the detective be this Tarzan dude with a loincloth and a stone spear, and the suspects be animal spirits, would pretty much kick ass.

<Ikselam> Heh.

<Ikselam> He has only five days in which to clear his name!

<Ikselam> Also, there are ninjas.

<dissolvegirl> When are there not? :)

<Domino> Anytime people don't include Sidereals?

<Ikselam> Assuming Peter is Mowgli in this scenario, what would your character's role be?

<Ikselam> Night castes are also ninjas.

<Ikselam> We learned this in their castebook.

<dissolvegirl> Aren't Water aspects, too?

<Domino> Blech. I don't believe it. Either of them.

<Ikselam> Eh...

<Ikselam> Waters aren't really ninjas.

<Ikselam> They don't get Stealth.

<Ikselam> Or MA.

<dissolvegirl> Umm.. I like the idea of shipwrecked-person, so what about a bookish, nerdy girl friday?

<Ikselam> DBs don't seem to have a "ninja caste" like everyone else.

<Domino> Lunar ninjas?

<Ikselam> Changing Moons, kind of.

<Domino> Eh.

<Ikselam> Enough about ninjas! We talk about Elizabeth and what character she will play!

<Ikselam> Ook ook.

<Domino> Is she a Sidereal? Because why is a Sidereal shipwrecked?

<Ikselam> Was she part of a Lewis & Clark expedition?

<dissolvegirl> Part of me is reluctant, since Gia was bookish, but this is without the Fu or the mouth.

<dissolvegirl> Probably not a Sidereal. I was thinking she Exalted sometime after the shipwreck, probably as Solar.

<Ikselam> She could be a scholar of ancient lore, whose knowledge comes in handy when they uncover the ancient Temple of Five Horrendous Dooms.

<dissolvegirl> Roger, that works. Some head-strong, smartass DB wanted to go exploring the West and couldn't speak wavetongue or any of the barbarian tongues.

<dissolvegirl> Oooh, Indiana Jane.

<Domino> Heh.

<dissolvegirl> OH! Which reminds me.

<Ikselam> I think it'd be kind of fun if you played a kickass character, but that's just because all your characters I've seen to date have been kind of teh bookish type.

<Ikselam> Reminds you of what?

<dissolvegirl> No spiders, please.

...

<Ikselam> Spiders will only make an appearance if it's like an extra-scary boss fight.

<dissolvegirl> Roger, bookish is always the first thing that comes to mind, but I'd be happy to think more and come up with something more kickass.

<Ikselam> Well, you should play what you want to play.

<dissolvegirl> I think a dawn caste would be ridiculously out of character for me, which could be fun.

<Ikselam> I would like everyone to have the most fun they can.

<Ikselam> Sometimes this means breaking with stereotype, other times the opposite.

<Domino> A dynamic social personality who, until the tragedy, has been tying together the animal spirits of the island jungle!

<dissolvegirl> I will have plenty of fun. ;)

<Ikselam> What caste would Mowgli/Tarzan be?

<Ikselam> Zenith?

<Ikselam> Likely, given your last comment.

<Domino> Probably. Or Eclipse.

<Ikselam> Taking a "With Barbarians" or "With Animals" specialty in Socialize would be amusing.

...

<Ikselam> Why do these two characters hang out together?

<Ikselam> Are they the only humans on the island?

<dissolvegirl> That's what I was thinking.

...

<Domino> We can be the only human folks on the island. That we know of, anyway.

<Ikselam> Maybe after Mowgli is cleared of his charges, they can build a canoe and go to another island.

<Ikselam> Or a ship can "discover" the island or something.

<Domino> Where Mowgli is again erroneously charged!

<Domino> Whereupon Mowgli is erroneously charged by the civilized peoples!

<Domino> Repeat storyline ad infinitum!

<Ikselam> You know, this makes me think that the "Unlucky" flaw should be changed.

<dissolvegirl> "It wasn't me! It was the one-armed Lunar!"

<Ikselam> Such that it represents a certain type of bad situation the character unerringly finds himself embroiled in.

<Domino> Heh.

<Ikselam> With its point value determining how life-threatening that recurring circumstance is.

<dissolvegirl> ghnghfghngghnghnghngnhhnghghghhhgdgfdgdfdghfhjgkihikyjnfgdgbdhjyfikdkmisjsgjgtsjuytsuststkjsgujst

<Ikselam> Baby on the keyboard?

<dissolvegirl> So close.

<dissolvegirl> Shoe.

<Ikselam> Heh.

<Ikselam> No wang!?

<Domino> Five-point Flaw - Unlucky Circumstance: Everywhere the character goes, he finds himself in a situation where no one can reasonably doubt that he has been conducting an illicit affair with the local warlord's woman.

<dissolvegirl> Roger, you have an undue fascination with my husband's wang.

<Ikselam> It just made such an impression on me.

<dissolvegirl> Heh.

<Ikselam> It's like Shoe's wang is the best friend I never had.

<dissolvegirl> Shoe's wang: always there when you need it.

<dissolvegirl> But we digress.

<Ikselam> Man.

<Domino> It's like the last six lines are the worst things that I'm going to pretend I never read. =)

<Ikselam> So, your character.

<Ikselam> Daring swashbuckling archaeologist or retiring combat librarian?

<Ikselam> Leader of the expedition?

<dissolvegirl> I'm thinking swashbuckling archaeologist.

<Ikselam> Hired hand?

<dissolvegirl> Hired hand, definitely. Bodyguard who liked looking over his employer's shoulder too much when reading treasure maps.

<Ikselam> For my part, I like the swashbuckling idea because it'll avoid the stereotyped relationship between the characters.

<dissolvegirl> Perhaps why she was left behind.

<Domino> "Let's swashbuckle that way!" "O-K!"

<Ikselam> Instead of the buff apeman rescuing the helpless damsel, he could be continually surprised that she's -not- helpless.

<dissolvegirl> I definitely want to be a dawn caste, but also, I want craft 5.

<Ikselam> Having discovered the cursed gold, her scurvy pirate crew turned mutinous and... eh, well, maybe not.

<dissolvegirl> Perhaps with a specialty in coconuts.

...

<Ikselam> So, was Ms. Jones shipwrecked, or stranded?

<Domino> Q: Where do you put Euro-trash? A: In the Eurocan.

<Ikselam> And, how did Mr. Mowgli come to live on this island?

<Ikselam> And by what kind of animals was he raised?

<dissolvegirl> Let's go with stranded. She woke up the morning they were supposed to move on, and found they left during the night.

<Domino> He washed up on shore as a baby, obviously, and the animal gods there decided to take him in. They raised him while hiding his presence from the unforgiving god-ruler of the island.

<dissolvegirl> So Mosegli.

<Ikselam> Heh.

<Domino> I intend to part the Western Sea and walk back to the Blessed Isle.

<Ikselam> What these two characters do not know is that they are actually brother and sister, separated at birth in an effort to avoid a horrible curse/prophecy.

<Ikselam> Have a fun 10,000 mile walk.

<dissolvegirl> That's why he's an Eclipse: Sidereal endurance charms.

<Ikselam> Or could use the Solar bunny-hop ones.

<Ikselam> Describe these two as a They Fight Crime! team.

<dissolvegirl> Yeah, Peter. Describe these two.

<dissolvegirl> ;)

<Ikselam> Each do your own.

<Domino> In the process! Don't disturb the process!

<Ikselam> He's a...

<Domino> He's a wild barbarian socialite who was raised by animal gods!

<Ikselam> She's a...

<dissolvegirl> She's a bodyguard-treasurehunter abandoned by civilization!

<Domino> They fight misdemeanors!

<Ikselam> What is each character's most striking physical feature?

<Domino> The combat misjustice!

<Domino> The fact that he wears very little clothing.

<dissolvegirl> Hm.

<dissolvegirl> Her legs are covered in teeny-tiny scars.

<Ikselam> I pretty much assumed he'd be loinclothing it. What would be striking about him if he took the loincloth off/put on a tux?

<Ikselam> From piranha attack?

<dissolvegirl> It took her a while to figure out what plants were sharp and what plants were okay to walk through.

<Domino> One of the island's spirits has honored him with a brand of some kind. It appears on his face as a simple tattoo, but to other spirits it shines brightly, proclaiming "This guy's OK!"

<Ikselam> OR she could have escaped slavers by running through a field of razorgrass!

<Ikselam> It is a big smiley face.

<Ikselam> With a thumbs-up.

<dissolvegirl> Why would slavers come to an island with no people, though?

<Domino> And it dances around and lowers prices?

<Ikselam> This would be prior to her current adventure.

<dissolvegirl> Ahhha.

<dissolvegirl> Oh. She has one brown eye, one green eye.

<Ikselam> When you said scars, I assumed "wounds suffered some time in the past."

<Ikselam> Does she have a cool nickname?

<dissolvegirl> I am unsure how long she has been on said island.

<Domino> She has a deformed head because her mother drank too much?

<Ikselam> ...

<Domino> Yeah, I didn't think so.

...

<Ikselam> So jungle dude has a cool tattoo, shipwreck girl has cool-colored eyes.

<dissolvegirl> You mock my musical tastes, but man, at least Rob Thomas never decapitated his dad.

<Ikselam> Yet.

<Domino> And we're all waiting.

...

<dissolvegirl> Do we still have to take alllllllllllll those background points?

<Ikselam> You mean 7?

<Ikselam> I think it'll be easy for Peter to spend his.

<dissolvegirl> Or can we cannabalize them (hee hee, cannibals) into freebie points?

<dissolvegirl> I don't think it would be so easy for me.

<Domino> I'll have no problem spending mine.

<dissolvegirl> Okay, so where we = me.

<Domino> Familiar, Mentor, Background(?), Manse(?)...

<dissolvegirl> Since Indiana Jane would have been abandoned pre-Exaltation, no artifact.. I'm guessing an island with such an active spirit god would not have any free manses, etc.

<dissolvegirl> Oooh, maybe a familiar.

<Ikselam> I think I'd like both of you to avoid taking artifacts. At least, ones made of orichalcum.

<dissolvegirl> I don't really see backing or mentor, though.

<Ikselam> You could both have familiars.

<Domino> Well, I'm kinda talking about me.

<Ikselam> They could have amusing interactions!

<Domino> Ooh! Our Familiars could fight!

<dissolvegirl> Oh, that makes a lot more sense. *LOL*

<Ikselam> One of them could be a cat and one could be a dog.

<Domino> Ooh! Ikselam thought what I was thinking!

<dissolvegirl> Heh.

<Ikselam> Shipwreck girl's Familiar could also be an Ally or something.

<Ikselam> He could be an extra-special spirit sea wolf.

<Ikselam> Or not, whatever.

<Ikselam> But sure, I'd be open to trading in backgrounds for bp if you can't think of places to put the dots.

<dissolvegirl> I could have Resources 3 from finding a gigantic treasure trove of Jade after being abandoned, but I don't think the gods would like that.

<dissolvegirl> Woot.

<Domino> I'm not sure how much use Resources 3 is on an island populated only by gods, anyway.

<Ikselam> I wonder what kind of circumstances would lead to a character being thrown overboard with a treasure chest chained to her legs?

<Domino> My Familiar is just a stupid octopus.

<Domino> (Listening to that theme.)

<Ikselam> Seafood soup!

<Ikselam> Ultros' theme is the single best piece of Final Fantasy music ever.

<dissolvegirl> Perhaps some kind of sacrifice to the local sea god?

<dissolvegirl> Remember: backgrounds don't have to be useful, they only have to be COOL.

<Ikselam> If they ARE long-lost siblings, as I jokingly suggested, they might have matching artifact pendants or something, given to them by their (only dimly-remembered) parents.

<Ikselam> Or they could have matching artifact pendants which make them -think- they're long-lost siblings, when actually it just means something else entirely.

<dissolvegirl> I was going to make a wonder twins joke, but I don't know if they had matching jewelry or anything.

<Ikselam> They had rings, I think.

<Domino> If they are ll siblings, is she a Western native?

<Domino> They had a monkey.

<Ikselam> I dunno, is Mowzan a westerner?

<Ikselam> They could both be Realmies who miraculously survived when their Dynast parents' ship was sunk by the Brass Leviathan.

<dissolvegirl> I was thinking she was Realmified, yes.

<Ikselam> While sailing back from the Mysterious Island.

<Ikselam> And their pendants turn out to be the key to the Mysterious Manse of Skull Island.

<Ikselam> key(s)

<Domino> I fig'd him for a Westerner, but I'm cool with whichever way the wind blows.

<Ikselam> I think he should be Realmie, it'd be another reason for the characters to stick together if they can identify each other as members of the same way-out-of-place ethnicity.

<dissolvegirl> Maybe them being stranded together is just, like, the Truman Show for Sidereals.

<Domino> Sounds good.

<Domino> Huh.

<Ikselam> The more I think about it, the more I think each of you should take artifact 1 to get matching pendants whose true importance is TBA.

<dissolvegirl> What happens when two realmies are stranded on an abandoned island? Watch and see!

<dissolvegirl> Works for me, Roger.

<Ikselam> But if you guys would rather not do that, that's cool too.

<Domino> No problem 'tall.

<Ikselam> My main goal here is to manufacture a bunch of plausible reasons for these characters to stick together even when the opportunity to separate appears.

<Ikselam> Without resorting to "omg buff apeman luvluv!"

<Domino> But... but... apeman luvluv!

<Ikselam> So I assume both of these characters are going to be pretty physical.

<dissolvegirl> ...

<Domino> Sounds like a reasonable assumption.

<dissolvegirl> I almost asked, "What are your feelings on merits and flaws?"

<Ikselam> With Mowzan being more social and Two-Eyes being more mental?

<Ikselam> Why, which ones would you like to take?

<dissolvegirl> But that wasn't the question I meant to ask, and we know the answer to that one already. ;)

<dissolvegirl> No ideas yet.

<Ikselam> My bark is a lot worse than my bite on M&F, which I recently decided I should call "Qualities."

<Ikselam> I'm opposed to using them as a method of constructing character interestingness.

<Ikselam> The interestingness should come first, then the qualities should be assigned only if they seem really appropriate.

<Domino> There might be a spirit brand Merit that I could take. I don't really know.

<Ikselam> There's Mark of Infernal Favor, which I thought about expanding to cover other marks of favor, but that's it.

<Ikselam> I'd suggest taking Backing or Mentor instead.

<Ikselam> Probably Mentor would work better.

<Domino> Mentor!

<Ikselam> It could be the spirit-animal who raised you.

<Domino> Likely.

<Ikselam> The mark tells animals, "Don't Eat This Guy."

<Domino> Heh.

<Ikselam> "Even if He Does Look Extra Tasty."

<Ikselam> or if->though

<Ikselam> Is there an interesting story behind your character's interesting-colored eyes, Elizabeth?

<Ikselam> Or is it just one of those hereditary things.

<dissolvegirl> One of those hereditary things. I'm totally going for a plane-Jane (no pun intended) vibe here.

<dissolvegirl> Other than her outlandish backstory, I mean.

<Ikselam> "I lost my left eye gambling with Plentimon. I won one back, but unfortunately it wasn't mine."

<Ikselam> That could be her outrageous STORY about how her eyes came to be. ~_^

<Domino> She was cursed by the spirit of the ocean as her exploratory group passed through a certain region! He cursed her to always have one eye to the ocean (hence why one is blue), and the curse caused her group become nervous and abandon her on an island!

<Ikselam> But really they left her behind because the captain was pissed she wouldn't sleep with him.

<Ikselam> Or she was replaced by a sinister doppelganger.

<dissolvegirl> Hee.

<Domino> Or all three!

<Ikselam> Possibly.

<dissolvegirl> She could do this thing where every time someone asks, she comes up with a new half-assed story.

<Ikselam> I kind of like the story about being thrown overboard with a treasure chest as ballast.

<dissolvegirl> Me too.

<Ikselam> I definitely think she should do that, Elizabeth.

<Ikselam> It would be a fun character quirk.

<Ikselam> If nothing else, it would be a quest to go on later.

<Ikselam> "The burst of strength from my Exaltation allowed me to break free of the chains, but now that it's passed, I can't think of how to get back down to the bottom of the ocean to get the treasure."

<Ikselam> "Plus there was that sea serpent."

<dissolvegirl> Heh.

<Domino> The chest is full of magic!

...

<Ikselam> Btw, Peter: my favorite necrospell was the one with the magic flag that attracts ghostly performers to your gathering.

<Ikselam> The best name was Death Flies Two Sails.

<dissolvegirl> Mine was the game of Necromantic Chicken.

<Ikselam> After reading the first couple Void Circle spells, though, I was obscurely disappointed that not ALL of them were elaborate methods of committing suicide.

<Domino> =)

<Domino> I'm really happy with some of the little hints and jokes I dropped.

<Domino> For example: Links Born of Tumult lets you use your shadow - and I cribbed it from a Legend of Zelda game.

<Ikselam> I agree with most people, though, that Shattered Void Mirror or whatever needs to be nerfed.

<Ikselam> Urk.

  • Ikselam activates Pun-Deflecting Grimace just in time.

<Domino> The magic flag spell's name reflects that fact that it was inspired by the Grateful Dead.

<dissolvegirl> Hee.

<Ikselam> I still think the "I AM THE HATRED!!" spell should have been called "Become the Hatred."

<Ikselam> ~_^

<Domino> Sorry, but BoSS was just too perfect.

<Ikselam> Anyhow, thoughts on how we can make Mowzan's backstory as golly-wow as Shipwreck Jane's is rapidly becoming?

<dissolvegirl> He washed ashore in a basket and was raised by gods, dude.

<Ikselam> We are currently in the situation I like to use as an example to people who don't know Exalted, in which player1 says: "My character was raised by wolves!" and the ST says, "Not outlandish ENOUGH."

<dissolvegirl> I mean, there's room for extra sparkle, but that's not exactly generic. ;)

<Ikselam> Was he literally in a basket?

<Ikselam> I missed that.

<Domino> Not sure that was literal, but it could be.

<Domino> Maybe he floated out on a cloud.

<Ikselam> I think he should probably have Exalted not long ago.

<dissolvegirl> Floated out on a cloud made me think, "Heh heh STAR TOUCHED!" but that would make Roger cry.

<Ikselam> So that the dogged animal-spirit investigator could believe that he killed Sher Khan in a fit of on-Exaltation power/rage.

<dissolvegirl> (Not with the GB rules or anything, just a sid-kid.)

<Domino> Which his god-parent hasn't told him, for fear of causing Mowzan to run off on a self-exploration adventure.

<Ikselam> Or he didn't wash up, but rather fell out of the sky.

<Domino> Like Magitek Knights!

<Ikselam> Exactly.

<Ikselam> When they unlock the Secret Manse of Skull Island, they could discover that it creates an invisible stairway of Essence that leads to the floating island on which a long-forgotten group of Sun-cultists live.

<dissolvegirl> And that's where we get the Airship?

<Ikselam> Which is shielded from detection because some long-dead Solar patron ripped down part of the sky and sewed it shut around the floating archipelago.

<Domino> When is the face of the world reshaped by a mad jester-genius?

<Ikselam> Never, Kefka was a lousy villain.

<Ikselam> hwuh hwuh hwuh!

  • Ikselam makes digitized hyaena laugh.

<Ikselam> That's all the guy had going for him.

<Domino> "B-b-b-b-blood?!?"

<Ikselam> ARe we actually going with the "chained to treasure, thrown overboard" backstory for Jane?

<dissolvegirl> Sure.

<Domino> And "chained to treasure, thrown from sky" for Mowski?

<Ikselam> "Fell to Earth from Krypton."

<dissolvegirl> That would be really entertaining.

<Ikselam> Thus his super powers.

<Ikselam> Maybe your mysterious amulets -are- made of orichalcum after all.

<Ikselam> Do you think there are manses on the jungle island?

<Domino> Do I have an indestructible blanket?

  • dissolvegirl is now thnking of a really entertaining flaw where a Solar gets seriously ill when around orichalcum.

<Ikselam> Which you use as a loincloth.

<Domino> With an "M" patterned on it!

<Domino> I suspect there may be at least one Manse on the island.

<Ikselam> I think it would be a better flaw if it was like, "Your caste mark flares when you touch your magic material."

<Ikselam> "Allergic to my material" would kind of suck unless you were a total RP-masochist.

<Ikselam> I was thinking that I'd like to avoid you starting with hearthstones, since like artifacts, it would be a fun thing to quest after later on.

<dissolvegirl> Maybe a solar allergic to soulsteel, or something.

<Domino> Fine by me.

<dissolvegirl> That's fine.

<Ikselam> There could be like ruined manses on the island or something.

<Domino> Great. After we solve the mystery, we spend five years rebuilding them all.

<Ikselam> Whose ruins have strange properties, and which produce large batches of level 1 hearthstones.

<dissolvegirl> With coconuts!

<Ikselam> But if repaired, might produce much more powerful gems.

<Ikselam> You could spend 5 years rebuilding, or you could come up with schemes so devilishly clever I suffer a minor stroke and talk with a lisp from then on.

<Domino> I'll work on that second one.

<Ikselam> Any thoughts on interesting places that could exist on this island?

<dissolvegirl> A tiki bar!

<dissolvegirl> Um.

<dissolvegirl> Dunno.

<Ikselam> Signs of ancient civilization?

<Ikselam> ...possibly sunk under the lagoon?

<Ikselam> Are lagoons landlocked?

  • Ikselam consults dictionary. They are.

<Ikselam> I'm sure I can come up with a bunch of interesting locations myself; just interested to know if one of you has a giant-statue-head fetish or something.

<dissolvegirl> I think you are pretty familiar with the things I ooh and aah over in a game.

<Ikselam> Please remind me anyway!

<Domino> A decent abandoned city would be nice.

<dissolvegirl> Indeed.

<dissolvegirl> Possibly with traps!

<dissolvegirl> But not necessarily.

<Ikselam> Whirling blade traps...

<dissolvegirl> I like gadgets. And great wealths of information. No spiders, no pirates. Etc.

<dissolvegirl> So you're saying we get to fight Ares?

<Ikselam> Hopefully not.

  • Ikselam surreptitiously crosses "spider-pirates" off list of "possible enemies."

<dissolvegirl> Outstanding.

<Domino> The penitent man shall pass.

<Ikselam> Penitent men... are always JUMPING!

<Ikselam> Heh, just thought of an amusing Athletics Charm...

<Ikselam> one which lets you "double-jump" like in a video game.

<Ikselam> You can push off from nothing in the middle of your jump to change direction, get extra height, etc.

<Ikselam> Seems like that would be a replacement for Monkey Leap rather than a successor.

<Ikselam> Okay, ruins, maybe traps, secret lore.

<Domino> Samus Emulation Practice

<Ikselam> Rolling Armadillo Defense.

<dissolvegirl> If there is not a morphball charm in the alchemical book, I will be forced to write one.

<Domino> Bomb-jumping!

<Ikselam> Shit, it's probably too late for me to write up a bunch of autochthonian artifacts before the canon ones hit.

...

<dissolvegirl> Gotta run!

<Domino> =)

<Ikselam> later!

<Ikselam> Well, we seem to be well on the way to accomplishing the goal of getting me excited.

<Domino> =)

<Domino> I want to talk about your visit.

<Ikselam> Although I'm excited about something totally different from what I expected to be excited about, which was a noir thriller set in the God-Blooded ghetto district of Yu-Shan.

<Ikselam> That would probably be a good idea.

<Ikselam> I've got cat-neutering on the 9th, Star Wars on the 19th.
