Toppled Susan
by Moxiane
- "Spiders! Chasing after me! Crawling up my legs! Get them off me!"
- - a common reaction to a poorly made Toppled Susan
- "He fucking said he fucking wants what?!?"
- - master-chef Jocular Fox upon being informed that the Baron Mkambeno wanted four servings for a small party
Originally created in the kitchens of the legendary restaurant Kassiel's (which tragically burned down during The Great Nexus Fire four decades ago), this dish is both supremely expensive and just as difficult to make correctly. The ingredients, which are collected from various places across Nexus (most ominously from Night Wood Park), are variously heated and chilled, and the making of a single portion can take almost two hours, assuming everything is already in place.
Traditionally served in a small cut-crystal dish and eaten with a long silver spoon, Toppled Susan is a delicacy that few will have the patience to sample, given the time it takes to make, but those who have tried it will whole-heartedly recommend it to their fellows.
Rumours
- The dessert was named after Kassiel's favourite prostitute, whom legend has it was formerly an exiled princess from the Hundred Kingdoms.
- Some of the more noteworthy and successful astrologers of Nexus are said to regularly order this dessert from one of the five restaurants that can make it properly.
Secret
- Some of the ingredients in Toppled Susan (most notably Sephin Orchid and Blood Star-Lily) have hallucinogenic properties. When the dessert is made correctly their combined effect creates powerful visions that have a knack of coming true.
Comments
Hehe. I can't decide if it'd be funnier that the patrons of a poor Susan are having standard hallucinations, or if they're seeing the Pattern Spiders. Do Siddies ever munch of Susans? :) DS
- On the few occasions that it's happened the Sidereal in question has had an immediate urge to talk to Nara-O of the Hundred Veils. What the Exalted and the god speak about remains between the two of them forevermore. - Moxiane
