Forest of Stone Rods (by Darloth)
The 'Forest' of stone rods can be found quite far to the south, roughly east by north-east of Gem. It covers a large area, but the signs of its presence spread further still. As far as five miles from the centre of the demesne, small, 4-inch diameter stone rods can be found poking up above the sands, usually no more than 3 feet high and never in large groupings.
As you get closer to the centre of the demesne, the rods increase both in frequency and height, until near the edge of the actual demesne itself, they are perhaps 10 ft high and closely placed, like a forest of stone. People can still slip between them at this distance, but as you advance even closer to the centre, the space between them narrows and the ground gets steadily lower, making the ever-longer rods seem even higher.
There are dragon-lines of all five types of elemental essence feeding into this demesne, but currently the air aspect predominates. As a result, sight-lines are occasionally clear right the way through the forest of rods, and occasionally someone will catch the barest glimpse of open sand a thousand yards away. In addition, the thin spaces between the rods, aided by geomantic effects and flows of essence, channel the slightest breeze into a greater and greater force, until near the centre of the demesne, ever-shifting vertical planes of wind slice through the gaps with the force of a hurricane. The rods also sway with these chaotic yet very focussed winds, and the tops make extremely trecherous footing, especially in the eternal windstorm that roils softly about them.
There is a slightly wider (6-inch diameter), almost squat looking pillar at the exact centre of the demesne, with various seams and shards of all 5 types of jade shining forth from its rocky exterior. Atop this, a 'hearthstone' of the type often found free-standing in powerful demesnes is known to form. Many suspect that this area was originally an attempt to produce a 5-elemental manse, which has since fallen into disrepair and disharmony.
