Wyld-Forged Terrain

Sages speak in reverent tones of the old days of Creation. According to ancient rumours, Solars and Lunars once carved entire kingdoms out of the fabric of the Wyld, vastly increasing the might and power of the world. Those days, however, are long since gone. While Solars can still twist the fabric of the Wyld, the effects are far less pronounced than they once were.

The Wyld is more active and deadly than it once was; anything forged of Wyld-stuff quickly dissolves. If a character uses a Charm such as Wyld-Shaping Technique to create an object or person, that object will gradually wither away in Creation. In addition to the usual rules about such interactions, no object can last for longer than (creator's Essence in months) before dissolving. This restriction does not apply to anything that a character spends experience to create (such as Wyld Cauldron Technique).

More importantly, when such objects are created in the Wyld, they have no special resistance from the Wyld's corrosive influence. Whenever a character creates an object in the Wyld, if there is no protection for it, it will warp and mutate as usual. Terrain thus creates collapses, based on what rituals were used to create it and what the region it was created in was originally, as follows:

|| Wyld Region || Temporary Effect (No XP spent) || Permanent Effect (XP spent) || || Pure Chaos || Lasts (Essence) hours || Lasts (Essence) days || || Deep Wyld || Lasts (Essence) days || Lasts (Essence) weeks || || Middlemarches|| Lasts (Essence) weeks || Lasts (Essence) months || || Borderlands || Lasts (Essence) months || Lasts (Essence) seasons ||

At the end of the listed interval, the territory begins rapidly reverting; over the next hour, it returns to its original level of Wyld. A few Exalted savants have attempted to forestall this by creating Manses within the territories they shape; this has no discernable effect on the speed with which the region collapses back into the Wyld.

Because of this, use of any effect that requires giving up a piece of one's soul (i.e. XP) to create terrain in the Wyld is considered a foolish decision at best, criminally negligent at worst. On the flip side, the New Realm has been often known to create temporary staging points; leading beacons out as far as possible from their home territories, then Wyld Shaping a new land in the Middlemarch created by the last beacon, placing a Manse in it, and then laying out a new trail of beacons from it in order to create a disposable trade route. Such staging grounds usually only last a certain number of weeks, but it is a dangerous military strategy that has outflanked the Imperium on several occasions.
