Tragical Tear Princess
Okay, so she's kind of a joke. But I get a little fed up with this tendency in modern fantasy to have stunningly beautiful yet tragic heroines who spend half their time proclaiming their superiority to men and the other half being saved from horrible tragedy by said men. Either be the raging feminist or the weeping violet. Please, don't try to be both.
Here, then, is an attempt to understand the draw of such characters. Tragical Tear Princess is achingly beautiful, fiercely indepentant, and kind of a bitch, and yet still manages to make every male in the vicinity rush to her aid the moment she utters a whimper of pain. She was inspired in part by the novel Rhapsody, which a friend lent to me because she likes to torture me.
I think I'm going to screw this up terribly, but here goes...
Note: It's really hard for me not to make this an ironic character. How do people do this?
