The Vellum Stronghold
This manse was constructed early in the shogunate, a repository that was originally a secure depot for sorting through anathema texts in order to determine what was valuable and what could be burned. It quickly became a central organizational point for the scholars of Mela, the organization whose duty it was to maintain and police knowledge - the nearly military character of the structure early in its life quickly became a vast and beautifully stocked library.
The building is a sunk deep into the southwestern grasslands, floors built outwards from a central shaft nearly fifty feet wide. There are three floors near the surface that serve as quarters for the Scholars and their servants, as well as their organizational headquarters for the southwest, and then nineteen floors of books stretching downwards. Each of those nineteen floors is devoted to one topic, and there seems to be an infinite amount of space to stack books in each - there is always another book between any two, and it seems like walking around each storey's ring takes far longer than seems reasonable. The walls are all of transluscent white marble chased with natural looking veins of gold and emerald, and the building smells of well-ripened books. The bookshelves are nearly limitless, and the only sure way to find any given book is to ask the aid of Tesuno-Gani, an ancient god who volunteered for the meager employ of maintaining the library. It is said that he has memorized every book in the library, but he often demands favors in return for his aid; these often take the form of demanding that the pleader read a book of Tesuno-Gani's choice.
