Exaltation
Books. They were always my greatest entertainment but the world seems ever ill-suited for lovers of academia and literature. However, I managed a living investigating and recovering various artifacts of the First Age. I would often donate these finds to various museums throughout the Realm.
One book - a single tome - would initiate my destiny and change my life forever. It was encased in black, hardened leather and seemed to bear no title. Only its first page - yellowed and brittle parchment common of the entire tome - bore anything remotely resembling a title. After days of study, it was all I could do to translate that one word. It was in a long forgotten dialect of Old Realm: 'Grimoire'.
I found the translation of the book to gradually become more and more engrossing - the penmanship especially. It was strangely familiar. If I had not known better, I would have thought it my own. If I had not known better . . .
The 'Grimoire' turned out to be a sort of journal written to record events in the First Age as experienced by the author. Strangely enough, the writing was not incredibly detailed in describing scenery; yet, as I read, I could imagine everything discussed as though I were looking upon them . . . remembering them? The book went on to cover the Anathema and the Dragon-Blooded in such ways as to be held as highest heresy by the Immaculate Order. Nevertheless, the words struck deep within me as I read and translated. And deep inside, I could not helpbut know they rang true as though I could vouch witness to the accounts personally.
I decided that keeping such apocrypha too close to Imperial eyes was the most dangerous of folly. So, I relocated my study to Whitewall. This book truly began to awaken me to the ignorance of society and the false dogma they are forced to uphold. It awoke such a hunger for knowledge - but moreso, for the truth.
But before I got too overexcited over what could be masterfully written fiction, I decided to seek a way to authenticate Grimoire for any true antiquity. If it was as old as the ruins where I found it, and not merely left there by tomb-raiders, then the people should atleast be advised to become more thoughtful of what they are indoctrinated in. With that decision made, Grimoire suddenly flew apart in a silent, forceless and brilliant burst. Its brittle parchment was now bright shimmering sheets of orichalcum adorned with various mystical formulae and symbols. I was taken aback as the pages then began to rotate around me. The wind generated by the speed of these pages made amok of my study, but I was completely dumbfounded.
Voices began to barrage me with whispers, shouts, phrases, questions, statements, answers . . . all at once. All in my voice. Confused, I moved to leave the study when outside one of my windows I noticed men bearing the mark of the Immaculate Order and . . . auras like the elements . . . somehow, I could sense their auras. A voice of mine simply stated '. . . the Wyld Hunt . . .', and I knew they were coming for me. I had neither the wits, nor inclination to clearly deduce why or how they were after me at the time.
I later learned that it was because I had experienced exaltation. The type the Realm holds worst in its eyes - the touch of the Unconquered Sun. I am now one of the so-called Anathema - the 'Unclean'. False titles and lies conjured by treacherous usurpers. I gradually understand Grimoire - my anima - my soul - more as time passes. In turn, I grow stronger through this introspection. I have found companions - Exalted like myself - who are steadfast. I will awaken the ignorant from their false bliss. This world of greed and self-serving leadership will be set arights soon enough.

Expanded Backgrounds
Artifact: 2 - Gilean possesses a jade chakram and a jade breastplate which he found in Threefold Symphony. They are artifacts dating back to the Shogunate Era. He also wields a jade goremaul he has named "Falsehood's Bane". It was specially crafted for him by an outcaste dragon-blooded in Nexus.
Resources: 4 - Not exactly a businessman himself, he has left his profits from adventuring in the quite capable hands of his friend, Resplendant Dreams of Seraphim. He has a townhouse near Bastion District in Nexus. He had a servant - a young boy he treated like a son named Keaban. Shortly after befriending his circlemates however, Gilean sent Keaban to live with his parents.
Manse: 3 - Gilean and his circlemates have located the hidden manse, Threefold Symphony located on the outskirts of the Black Chase shadowland. He has decided to move his study there. It is here that he found a wood aspect hearthstone that allows him to heal an additional lethal damage level per day. He has dubbed it "Dryad's Kiss".
Contacts: 3 - Gilean gets a lot of info and help regarding artifacts and expeditions from a long time "friend", Heironymous Brehl in Bastion. He also has contacts with the Children of the Sacred and Holy Light, a group of Anathema sympathizers who live in a small village near Nexus.
Savant: 3 - Gilean has adventured for a long time researching the mysteries of First Age Creation, even before meeting his circlemates. He has an elaborate knowledge of First Age lore.
