Virtue Flaw: Conviction -- Merciless Scalpel of Righteousness: Upon reaching a Limit Break, the Exalt’s conviction that his way is the right way hardens to adamant – and no force in Creation can deter him. Those that do not voice active and immediate support are held in suspicion: those who oppose him are dangerous fools, and must be dealt with before the Exalt’s plans are threatened. Like a surgeon cutting infection from a body, the Exalt pares away all distractions and impediments, knowing that any pain that he feels is a sign of present weakness and future healing. For a number of days equal to Conviction, the Exalt works toward any goal with single-minded purpose, removing obstacles in the most expedient fashion. Limit Break conditions: the Exalt’s plans are thwarted or his judgement is challenged.

Equipment: Fine silk robes, pantaloons, slippers, an embroidered cape, a turban, jeweled pins and brooches to hold everything together. A traveling kit of much plainer and more modest clothing of earth-toned linen and wool. A pair of riding boots altered to fit his clubfoot. An exceptional Chiaro-glass jambiya in a gem-studded sheath. A Marukani mare of good breeding. A pair of firewands and ammunition for same. A duellist's firepiece and ammunition. A jade and orichalcum plasma-tongue repeater, no ammunition, not sure how it works. A considerable sum of mixed coinage, predominantly Guild dinarii and a few quarter-oboli. A gentleman's walking-stick of teak with yeddim-ivory inlay.

Shamir il Haidouk is the younger brother of a Delzahn noble; because of his clubfoot, Shamir was unable to found his own household (“And those who would lead must be sound of mind and body, perfect in form and purpose” – Muktakh Delza, the Bridge of Nobility). As such, he went into service as his elder brother’s vizier, where Shamir’s handsome face and quick wit won his brother Sadekh a great deal of honor and influence. Shamir was not content to be the power behind the throne, though – his brother was stubborn and foolish, and sometimes refused to cooperate with Shamir’s plans, even though the Haidouk family fortunes would have prospered. As time went by, the disagreements turned into arguments, the arguments to shouting matches, the shouting to insults, the insults to anger, and the anger to treachery. Bored and frustrated, Shamir began to embezzle money from his brother and his brother’s businesses, testing himself to see how far he could push his luck.

Inevitably Shamir was found out, betrayed in turn by a corrupt manager who wished to ingratiate himself with Sadekh. The elder brother confronted the younger in his salon, and the argument and recriminations progressed to the point that Sadekh drew his Chiaro-glass scimitar and threatened Shamir – which is when Shamir Exalted. Sadekh was terrified by his younger brother’s appearance, screaming and fleeing in an act of cowardice. When the moment had passed, Shamir found Sadekh hiding in the stables under a pile of straw. At that point, the brothers decided that it was best for Shamir to go – since the Haidouks were pious people, it would not do to have an Anathema hanging about, and Shamir was forgiven his thefts, as long as he promised never to reveal his brother’s shameful display. Shamir did so, and left Chiaroscuro the next day, heading west, taking a large sum of money as well as a few trinkets he’d “picked up” from the family businesses, including a matched set of firewands, a bronze-and-ivory duellist’s firepiece, and a peculiar old mechanism that resembles a clockwork firepiece. Shamir’s position as vizier and his hobby of crime have put him in contact with a wide variety of people, some honorable and some rather unsavory. Even in the West, Shamir has a number of contacts, mostly in the criminal and business sectors. Which, as Shamir is fond of pointing out, are merely the two faces of one coin.

Shamir is tall but slender, with long fingers usually bedecked with rings. He has a mobile face and a mouth that smiles easily, whether in good humor or with cruelty. He keeps a pointed beard as best he can, and his oiled and plaited hair is usually hidden under a turban or headscarf. He has mahogany-colored skin and clear tawny eyes. He's lame in one leg, born with his foot twisted awkwardly to the side. He walks with a cane and wears a special boot that hides the worst of his deformity, but prefers to ride whenever possible. His Righteous Devil Style skills came from long practice with the firewand, as it was a weapon easily used from horseback and much more noble than a mere bow.

Comments

Neat character concept, but one small note for you - you can't use firewands without Archery. Having Righteous Devil doesn't help you unless you plan to only ever use Charms with them. - FrivYeti

You lost which abilities are favored and caste in your move. DragoonDrake

Right. Thanks for the tip, FrivYeti. Shuffled some things around. I'm still messing with formatting -- clearly much to learn about wikicode. ~Madu

Nice :). I should add physical descriptions for my character, too ... -- Dakkareth

Hmm. Somwhere in there the Backgrouds disappeared. Well, they're back now. ~Madu
