This is an attempt to rework many aspects of Lunar Exalted, including DBT, shapeshifting, and virtue flaws, from the ground up. It will be rough.

The Struggle, and Lunar Tell
A lunar is 4 in one - a human soul, a human Po, an animal's spirit, and a lunar essence shard. She can typically survive relatively comfortably as her totem animal, and relatively comfortably as her human form, but is an outsider in each, forever separated from society. A beast among men, and a man among animals. She subtlely receives the instincts of each, especially in that form. Hybrid form is closest to a lunar's true self, and multiplies the strength and instincts of both of her other true forms, creating a very fierce and deadly monster. A Lunar's shape reflects her spiritual battle. When she goes into Hybrid or Totem Forms, she develops a tell, which is a mark of her totem animal, that only slowly fades from her. The stronger her connection to her Totem Form, which is represented by DBT, the stronger the tell, and the more slowly it fades. Also, the longer she's in that form, the stronger it is. A lunar who spends long enough as a totem animal will always be able to revert out of it, but she will have a very strong tell, for a long time.
The tell is a reflection of the Great Curse in Lunars. It is a continual and pervading problem, but it is not the only one. The Curse drives lunars from their loved ones and forever separates them from society, driving on their instincts past extremes and drawing out their strengths when gentleness is needed.
Limit
A lunar's Virtue Flaw taints her superior animal instincts - the very core of her being. Drawing on her strength leads her away from her life and away from her mind.
Increasing Limit
- Shifting into DBT - roll highest virtue

Limit does not fall naturally. The only cases in which a lunar's limit would fall would be if her animal passions where supernaturally allowed free reign. In such a case, the lunar would act as she might in a Violent Break, or very similar. No known ways exist to reduce limit, as limit is not a recognized phenomenon. Not even the know moons have discovered the Curse.
Limit check

Roll - Roll Limit DC = 9 - moon's phase.
- New = 1, Crescent = 2, Half = 3, Gibbous = 4, Full = 5
Breaking limit - If the roll succeeds, the lunar's highest virtue takes over, unless another becomes more appropriate. Valor causes the character to attempt to challenge things to establish dominance(other lunars, powerful characters, competitors, etc). Compassion causes the character to protect what she loves in every possible way with the zeal of a mother with threatened young. Conviction causes the character to separate from packs which don't suit him, and run with packs of the similar. This can often drive even friends apart. Temperence causes the character to discard the unnecessary and return to basics. Generally, the character's strongest virtue will take over, but all of them will influence her. The character's limit decreases by one each day until it reaches 0, at which point the limit break ends. The effects may last for a much longer time, especially because the character is probably unwilling to admit that she is irrational, and likely trusts her instincts.
Violent Break - If the character scores 3 or more successes on the limit break roll, then the character's primary virtue comes to the fore more prominently, causing an effect more like the solar limit break. That limit break lasts only 1 Day. If the character's limit breaks again while it's already active on the lower level, it goes straight to a Violent Break. The character shifts to DBT (if out of Essence, will sacrifice 1 WP and shift). If out of WP, then she will shift as soon as she's able. She acts on instinct alone. A Violent Break restores willpower equal to the character's highest virtue.
Shapeshifting
The bodies of lunars are malleable, and they are neither man nor beast. A lunar can become animals. She simply needs to understand the animal's Essence. This can be done many ways, but is typically accomplished by consuming the Heart's Blood of an animal and studying it's essence as it slowly suffuses the lunar's body. It is also possible for the avatar of an animal to issue this understanding with a touch, or for the lunar to take it more directly with a 3+ Essence Charisma charm.
Lunars can not always understand an animal's Essence. There is great and art in shapeshifting, and practice is required to internalize the nature of a type of animal, become one with its ways and feelings, and finally become one with it. How fully a lunar understands a particular animal is based on his understanding of the animal's type. There are 5 base types of animals:
Types: Mammals, Fish, Birds, Reptiles, Protoids(insects, worms, starfish, jellyfish, and other strangely or under-developed animals)
Each animal type represents a trait rated from 1 to 5. A lunar can simultaneously "contain" the essences of a number of animals of a given type equal to its rating cubed. Specialties may be purchased for any subtypes, and add a number of potential animals equal to the (difference between the Type Trait's rating and the effective new Type Trait rating) / 4. When a character has accumulated 4 different specialties at a given level, then the specialties vanish, and the new level is assumed.
- For example: A lunar with Mammals: 2 and + 1 Predators can understand 2^3 = 8 different mammals. And, the lunar receives specialty slots for predator animals equal to ((3^3 = 27) - (2^3 = 8) = 19) / 4 = 4.75 (round down) = 4. So, as long as the lunar has at least 4 predator mammals in her library, then she can learn a total of 12 mammals.
A lunar may devote additional slots to a particular animal to increase her shapeshifting ability with that species. This effectively means that every animal is a type of skill.(more later)
Deadly Beastman
Sample Gifts: The first ones require 2 Essence. The second ones build on the first ones and require 3 Essence.
- 2 - Claws and Teeth - The character acquires all of the major natural weapons of her totem animal which are used to blatantly attack through violent trauma. For example, claws, teeth, horns, hooves, stingers, etc. But not poison, constricting scales, electricity, great weight, etc. Weapon potential is as though the weapon were created by the lunar charm Savage Predator Weaponry.
- 3 - Moonsilver Weapons - Upgrades Claws and teeth, making them huge and moonsilver. Stats can be found elsewhere. Really really really really nasty.
- 2 - Thick Hide - Adds the character's Stamina to her Lethal and Bashing soaks, and provides a Hardness versus those attacks equal to her Stamina.
- 3 - Heavy Armor - Upgrades thick hide, adding 1.5 times the character's Stamina to her Lethal and Bashing soaks, and granting a Hardness of 1.5 times her Stamina.
- 2 - Enhanced Sense - Grants sense enhancement equivalent to Heightened Sense.
- 3 - Hyperacute Sense - Upgrades Enhanced Sense, granting sense enhancement equivalent to Unsurpassed Sense.
- 2 - Enhanced Reflexes - Doubles the character's wits for determining Initiative.
- 3 - Instinctive Awareness - Character is no longer surprised by a physical ambush unless the ambusher scores more than 2 x the character's Perception successes on the ambush roll. Otherwise, character is automatically granted an initiative roll.
- 2 - Speed / Leaping - Character moves at 2 x the normal bipedal speed, and can leap 2 x as high and far as normal, 4 x as far with a running start.
- 3 - Cheetah-like Speed - Improving on Speed / Leaping, the character can run at a sustained speed 4 x her normal speed, and can sprint for a speed 6 x her normal speed for a number of Turns = to her Stamina.
- 3 - Frog leap - Improving on Speed / Leaping, the character can leap 2 x Strength Yds vertically from a standstill. Running vertical leaps of Strength x 3 + 2 x Athletics Yds are possible. Horizontal distances are doubled.
- 2 - Extra Limbs - The character gains 4 fully functional extra limbs. Legs can be used to increase running speed. Arms can be used to hold additional weapons and perform additional maneuvers. In addition, all of the character's limbs become as flexible and powerful as her primary hand.
- 3 - Tons of Limbs - The character gains as many legs or arms as she needs. The sheer number of limbs adds to the character's effective soak and parrying attempts. The character's movement increases,
