Personality

Dying Star is very interested in Creation. He fully expects the Balorian Crusade to finally destroy it one of these centuries, so he has quietly paid, stolen, and killed to gather all the objects of beauty he can. He and his Museum travel throughout the Bordermarches and Middlemarches, displaying the contents for other raksha and the occasional human. While the Museum is not a freehold, each waypoint has been incumbered by Dying Star to prevent theft or damage to his property and is vexed at any point in time by either him or his Warrior servant. Any character who damages or steals any art on display (including the mortals) will immediately suffer Sword attacks through the waypoints, and if they escape they will be hounded relentlessly.
Cursed to be a Worker without the slightest talent at crafting glamours, Dying Star is dedicated to collecting the creations of others. He appreciates the bumbling creativity of the prodigies among the Creation-born, and is surprised and impressed by the occasional flukish success... which he then acquires and places in his beloved Museum, if at all possible. If the object he wants is in the hands of another raksha, he will not hesitate to vex it from them. If it is in Creation, he first tries to retrieve it using the Contacts, Influence, and Backing granted by his Adjurations. If that fails, he resorts to Glamour Sorcery to divide and distract the owners and their followers, then skulks silently in and takes it.
In the end, Dying Star cares little for anything but beauty and fine craft. Glory is meaningless to him, and he claims only the loosest affiliation with the Lapis Court, for he fears what they may do to damage his collection. In turn, he keeps returning because the fear thrills within him. He is considering vexing more rakshas' Hearts, to better protect the Museum from potential threats.

Although it is unknown to any other Fair Folk at present, one of the slaves that wanders the grounds of the Museum has not been ravaged at all - Fair Mei carries a beauty inside and out so shocking amidst the imperfections of Creation that even the connossieur Dying Star fell in love with her. When other raksha visit, he hides her from them deep within the Edifice or Gallery, terrified that one of them may steal her away from him. She has mastered her fear of Dying Star and lives amid more art than could be appreciated in a half-dozen human lifetimes, her every wish catered to. She has slowly grown to love the quiet, passionate Fair Folk who plucked her from her village and opened her eyes to the wonders of the Wyld and Creation, and she recently gave birth to a baby girl they named Morning Lily.

Appearance

Dying Star almost always appears as a fretting middle-aged man, thin and greying, dressed in simple traveling garments. When entertaining company in the Museum of Timeless Beauty, the traveling garments become silk finery. He bears neither weapon nor armor, and gives every indication that he is a normal (if wildly eccentric and obsessed) mortal man. Ugly for a raksha, he finds it easier to blend into Creation on his forays.

The Museum of Timeless Beauty

Dying Star's museum travels through the wild in search of new slaves, art, or other tangible objects of beauty. It is composed of three concentric waypoints. Each showcases some sort of artistic variety. Some are quite mundane - a rock garden, a still life. Others occupy spaces warped and twisted around them, that would never be able to be appreciated in the static, unrelenting miasma of Creation. The vast majority of the displays in the Museum are stolen or replicated from Creation, though some few are incidental images, spaces, or objects of the Wyld that Dying Star thought were interesting. Throughout the three divisions of the Museum, beautiful but vacant slaves can be found. Many of them are kidnapped, some bought from the Guild, and all have been ravaged to some extent. They are acquired and retained for their beauty; some are kept as decorations in specific areas of the Garden or Edifice, and all are walking mannequins for fine clothing.
Outermost is the Garden, an array of fine landscaping, gorgeous statuary, and even a number of rock gardens. While far from infinite, the space is quite vast, containing dozens (if not hundreds) of gardens, meadows, and other samples of outdoor beauty, as well as hedge mazes, quiet streams, and imposing rock formations. Moreso even than the Edifice, the Garden is warped and subdivided; a person may appear to be in the midst of an empty desert one moment, with a blur on the horizon, and a few steps later be walking through a cool forest. In truth, none of the displays are as large as they appear. The space is stretched thin, and what seems like miles is only a few paces. Some areas earn special detail, however, such the hedge mazes or swimming areas.
Traveling through the Garden, a visitor will come to the Edifice. The Edifice is a grand building, covered in doors and windows and buttresses and overhangs, including every element of structural design Dying Star has come across. Extensions of it are little more than grass shacks or piled stones, while others are soaring crystal towers. It is impossible to determine an exact divide between two styles, as they seem to blend organically into one another. Entering any of the doors leads to a maze of corridors, some large, some small, representing Dying Star's experience of interior design. While many of the rooms have accents or decoration, none bear works of art. This waypoint includes a number of interior mazes - some dank and dark, others scattered with clues and puzzles. At any given time there are dozens of slaves, chosen for their beauty, wandering lost in each one. Dying Star enjoys observing the paths mortals trace through mazes, which inspired their inclusion in the Museum.
Those are reserved for the Gallery, which is surrounded and contained by the Edifice. A series of rooms and halls filled with two-dimensional and three-dimensional art of all kinds, each positioned and lit to show it to its best advantage. There are paintings, murals, mosaics, stained glass windows, statues, moving art, and other indescribable things. The Gallery also includes displays of unique or legendary artifacts -- many captured during the Contagion -- and illusory portraits of mortals, gods, and Exalts whose beauty or creative genius has garnered Dying Star's respect.

Sada, the Great Silver Bee

Description: Sada is a huge, shining silver bee the size of a pony, and serves as Dying Star's mount when he is traveling. The beast is armed with razor-sharp mandibles as well as a stinger as long as a man's arm, dripping with a lethal venom that burns like fire. When not impaling mortals, it usually buzzes sedately in the air like a vast honeybee. Dying Star keeps the behemoth attuned himself, rather than delegating the responsibility to one of his minions.
