On Soaking

Jabberwock is correct. You don't get to soak an attack on your Essence pool.

On Mote Stealing

Nephilpal - 12/29/2003 09:38:33

You steal motes using either function of the Charm. If you attack the victim's Essence pool, the effect is extremely obvious and visible to everyone, but you won't hurt her. If you attack health, you drain invisibly and even the target won't necessarily know if you steal a very small amount of life force.

Make sense?

Bingo.

First of all, there aren't "versions" of the Charm. There is only one Charm, and you get both uses when you buy it. In the first use, you get to inflict damage and convert the levels you inflict into motes. You drain the victim's life force and add it to your own Essence reserves. The second use is even simpler: you directly attack their Essence pool by siphoning it to your own.

With each use of the Charm, you may either attack the victim's health levels or Essence pool, but not both. In either case, you regain motes.

On Visibility

Nephilpal - 12/30/2003 09:57:18

Draining less than Stamina applies only to sucking Health levels.

Think of it this way. You're walking along the street and you catch the eye of Joe Abyssal. He half-slits his eyes in hunger and draws a thin streamer of your lifeforce to his mouth. You don't see this or feel it exactly; you just suddenly feel famished or exhausted. You know, you really should have eaten breakfast.

If you attack the Essence pool, it's obvious to all.

*grins* Yeah... I probably should have stated that directly. If you are suffering more damage from Breath-Draining than the stated limit, you'll notice. That applies to all activations.
