Familiars and Acquaintances

Familiars and Acquaintances gained by the Ride Charms, and how they Stack\\ Sum the number of Familiars and Acquaintances the Exalt has. This cannot exceed the character's Essence, no matter how many dots they are each. For this purpose, an 'Acquaintance' is not 'someone who recognizes the Sidereal', but the first person in a community to recognize the Sidereal - the person who serves as kind of the lynchpin for that community recognition. The person who you took the first dot of Acquaintance with, that is. :)

That's the intention of the Charms, at any rate.

I mean 'and' literally. Acquaintances and Familiars are basically the same kind of spiritual bond.

Note that this is the number of total Background purchases, not the total number of Background dots---it's a Sidereal advantage, not a disadvantage. At Essence 3, you have three separate slots on your Backgrounds list to write down either 'Familiar' or 'Acquaintance', followed by a number of dots. An Essence 4 Sidereal could have a godly famliar, a couple regular familiars, and a place in a mortal community, all at up to 5 dots.
