The Fight
The first part of this session continues the experiment that started this game, with the characters facing off against waves of progressively harder enemies, only after that is over do we start with the new game.
Round 3 Continued
When last we left our heroes they were involved in a fight with a group of troops in a tea house somewhere in the Scavenger Lands In a brilliant series of moves they had overcome three successive waves of enemies, each time raising a progressively greater hew and cry from the town. We now find them facing the remnants of the third wave...
We start with Ami Chalot who is next to the kitchen facing down two heroic mortals who both have just watched their whole squad's get killed by evil shadows. Using another charm from the Ebon Dragon, she strikes them both with lances of darkness which draw out their life force and heal her of her injuries.
Back up front the remnants of the archery unit that Golden is facing break and run, but are brought up short by the arrival of a scale of troops in impeccable armor, and with fine weapons.
Round 4: The Battle!
Shortly the two notice that they are being surrounded by five full scales of troops, an entire wing, and they hatch a bold plan. Using Ami's wish granting powers they give Golden Harmony War 5, and form up as a magnitude 1 unit. Taking on the arriving scale's of troops we take the Mass Combat rules for a spin, and find that they are not particularly well balanced for dealing with Solaroid heroes facing down mortals, the mere humans having done more damage in normal combat than they manage to do in the 18 minute fight with Ami and Golden.
Golden starts off mixing it up with scale 1 with his Wrackstaff, degrading it's magnitude by 1 in the first round. In response the 1st scale does 3 bashing damage to Golden's unit, which is the only time in the whole battle that anyone manages to injure Golden and Ami.
The Very next round Scale B arrives, and attempts to encircle Golden and Ami, at which they succeed. This avails them naught for golden an Ami ignore them and Whale on the first scale some more reducing it to a single heroic combatant.
As the fight wears on with another scale of troops arriving and joining the encirclement it becomes clear that the mass combat rules are broken. Ami and Golden manage to trash the second scale of troops with a single attack and reduce it to a single heroic mortal as well, while the attacks of the other units are utterly ineffectual. Ami meanwhile drops out of synchronicity with Golden to use her darkness summoning powers to cripple the entire attacking force by bathing the area in a lethal field of blackness. One unit goes down entire and the 4th scale which was supposed to have arrived this round comes up short and attempts to strike them down with a volley of arrows, which also fails.
It is at this juncture that I decide to call a halt to this experiment with the mass combat system and have the final confrontation of the original premise of this game.
Round 5: Dragon Blooded
Calling a scene change the scales of troops withdraw and block the exits. Moments later the 3 dragon blooded that were leading this Wyld Hunt emerge from the tea house and array themselves against the two Anathema outside. The dragonblooded consist of two immaculate monks in their saffron robes and shaved heads, one wielding a green jade long power bow, while the other has two infinite jade chackrams. The third dragonblooded is wearing a blue kimono and as far as golden and Ami can tell unarmed. The one in the blue kimono declares that though she had no desire to fight Ami and Golden such a confrontation is now inevitable and that the two of them will die this day.
Upon hearing this Golden does his little 'I Strike First' bit and punches the one with the power bow. His attack only serves to make the man angry, and then join battle is rolled.
Ami scores very well on her JB roll and does this maneuver where she runs away from the DBs only to loom stride right behind them and shoot them with her assault rifle. She adds an interesting charm which permanently blinds them and just like that the fight is over.
Let the games begin
So, the pre-planed combat sim which had started this game is finished, and has proved enlightening. We have established that Ironically the most dangerous group to face down solaroids are small numbers of low level troops, and that when dealing with dragon blooded even those with 200 XP are not a challenge. Lessons learned, we will have to try harder next time...
Mastery of small manners
The Dragon Blooded fall to the ground screaming 'beholding the glory of the Ebon Dragon' according to the charm description.
