The Drowned Princess of the Stygian Depths is a some time rival some time ally of The Bodhisattva Anointed by Dark Water Like him she operates primarily in the west, but unlike the Bodhisattva has little presence outside the underworld yet, a fact which subjects her to intense ridicule from the other Deathlords. However the others have certain reasons to fear the 'Mistress of the Silent Deep': for it was her and her ghostly legates who found the secret resting place of the Jade Prison and who brokered the deal between the Neverborn and their Yozi cousins which exchanged the respective arts required to create the Abyssal Exalted. Furthermore the other Deathlords know that while their plots and plans are known and feared by many in creation and the underworld The Drowned Princess's end game is a secret that none save she are privy to: and she even now musters a force of Ghosts, Deathknights, and Ships which rivals the Bodhisattva's navy: without his need to protect his territory from attacks in creation...

Some things are known of the Drowned Princess, things which make many question her allegiance to the Neverborn:

1: She is and always has been on speaking terms with the Lintha, who serve and claim decent from the Yozi Kimbbery.

2: No other Deathlord admits to having known her incarnation in the First Age, and all attempts to divine it meet with protections that no known magic has been able to pierce.

3: Perhaps most damning, the the Neverborn who are part of the conspiracy which rules over the Deathlords deny having given her a Deathlady's powers: yet at the same time do acclaim her one of their number. The inevitable question of how these can both be true meets with the silence of the grave.

For all these reasons only a handful of the other Deathlords treat with the Drowned Princess, and even they do so cautiously: These include the Bodhisattva, The Lover, and The Eye and Seven Despairs.

History

Up until the beginning of the Second Age the history of the Drowned Princess is a murky one, as murky as the deapths of the southern oceans where she claims dominion. A handfull of things are known from the period of the shogunate but before that there is nothing, and she works effortlessly to keep it that way.

The Shogunate

The First mention of the Drowned Princess of the Stygian Depths occurs in obscure records early in the shogunate period, with mentions of cults to this mighty ghost being found on the islands of the extreme south of the western ocean. The cults were put down, so the records say, but references to them recur at least a half dozen times over the shogunate's span.

The records in the underworld say little more, save that she sent a levy of ships and troops to support the conquest of the Stygain Isle and occasionally took a seat at the councils of the Deathlords once Stygia was tain. Then as now she kept her own council and rarely even entered a vote when matters were decided upon.

The Second Age

During the second age more details emerge into focus: Here we begin to see records of her alliance with the Lintha and with the collapse of the dragonblooded host her death cult on the south western isles becomes more prominent. It is at this time that she first begins to build up her navy: not out of Soulsteel as the Silver Prince does but by salvaging wrecks of First Age ships and repairing them to their glory days. We also see her making forays into the Wailing Fen and An-Teng, beginning her long rivalry with the First and Forsaken Lion However, curiously, just at the same time that Princess Magnificent is censured for giving way to the gods of Great Forks The Drowned Princess abruptly ceases to attend meetings in Stygia, and is not seen again outside her palace at The Graveyard of Forsaken Vessels for almost a century. Naturally this leads some to speculate that the two princesses are in fact the same woman: yet, at the same time, The Princess of the Stygian Depths has often been seen previous to this both apart from and in the company of Princess Magnificent: and furthermore is known to have a number of death knights which Princess Magnificent is forbidden.
