History of the Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter

The Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter like many other simple artifacts is the result of an Exalted Craftswoman seeing a need for a device and inventing the device to fit that need. The Craft's Woman was an Adamant Caste named Blazing Seraph of The Machine God several hundred years ago. She wished to be able to attune more easily to items made of other materials than adamant but the normal Five Fold Harmonic Adapter could not do this for her, as it required a piece of her own material in a circle of Adamant, but her material WAS adamant.

After searching for several years off and on she stumbled upon an idea: Yellow Jade: which allows mortals to attune to items made of it: perhaps this would let her attune to other items... Research and experimentation followed and a few years later she created a functional Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter, but at the time she only realized it was Six. It was not until after Seraph disseminated the data to the rest of the Adamant Caste that the truth was revealed: One of the other adamant operatives: One Solvent of Intractable Distention decided to give a mortal one of the adapters and a Daiklave of Soulsteel he had recovered from an apostate as an experiment, just to see what happened. The Results shocked most people, though Solvent was unsurprised: the mortal was able to attune to the adapter and through it gain full benefit from the artifact, all without even having awakened essence.

Now called by their Proper name of Seven Fold Harmonic Adapters Solvent disseminated knowledge of how to create these artifacts among the Sodalitiies of all eight nations: most of which promptly put this information under high priority seal: deeming mortals having access to the artifact weapons of the Chosen too dangerous for general consumption. Estasia and Yugash however were quick to capitalize on this development, allowing the very best of their troops and regulators to fight on a footing almost equal to one of the chosen. Even there however the scarcity of Yellow Jade makes these artifacts a rarity that must be carefully husbanded for maximum gain.

Seven Fold Harmonic Adapters have existed for thousands of years in Autochthonia, but are largely unknown in Creation: as creation's exalted never had a need to make adapters that would allow someone who could only attune to Adamant to attune to other materials. There was however one Solar who created some of these artifacts shortly before the Usurpation with the idea of letting a mortal use certain artifacts properly which they could not before. Some of these adapters remain in existence: though to possess one would require express storyteller permission and should only be done after a protracted quest to acquire the artifact.

Mechanics of the Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter

Due to their incredible utility and their ability to allow mortals to use artifacts in a way equal to the exalted the Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter counts as a level 3 or 4 artifact: consult with your storyteller about which before purchasing or crafting the item. In all other ways the artifact functions the same regardless of rating.

Attuning to a Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter requires the commitment of a single mote for the Exalted, and is free for mortals. The user then attaches the Adapter to any other artifact that normally requires commitment of motes to use, and attunes themselves to the artifact. This means of attunment costs no motes, and the artifact works exactly as if the user had properly harmonized their anima with the artifact, allowing them to gain all of it's normal benefits.

7 Fold Harmonic Adapters are not magitech and have no repair rating: they are true artifacts and all but invulnerable.

Crafting a Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter

There are multiple recipes for a Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter: the one used in creation is impossible in Autochthonia and the several developed in Autochthonia are difficult if not impossible in creation. Furthermore the one used in creation was only known to one solar who's research notes were buried with him following the usurpation and even if they had not been were encoded with solar charms and used a highly technical dialect of old realm which has been lost these 768 years and more. That said redeveloping the recipe is not beyond the capabilities of the returning Solars and therefore three of the recipes* that could yield a functional artifact are presented bellow: The one already used in creation, the original followed by Blazing Seraph of The Machine God and an alternate formula possible with the resources of both Autochthonia and Creation.

• (Footnote: All of these Recipes Assume that the ST treats 7.F.H.A. as four dot artifacts: this is done because it is easier to scale back the requirements for a formula for a lower rating than to increase them for a higher one.)

The Solar Formula

Take about a pound of adamant, cut it down into two hollow disks about two inches across at the outside and with an inch wide hole in the center using an essence beam of Rainbow Light. Next prepare a coin of Yellow Jade alloy, alloyed in a vat built from the skull of an Ink Monkey, and cast with a Die made from the Granite of the Imperial Mountain. Next Place the coin of Yellow Jade alloy into the center of the two disks of Adamant and seal all three pieces together with Sovereign Glue. Finally Anneal the Assembly over a fire made from Coals from the Elemental Pole of Fire. If you have done this properly you will have created a Mortal Artifact Use Adapter.

The First Alchemical Formula

Take about a pound of adamant, cut it down into two hollow disks about two inches across at the outside and with an inch wide hole in the center using an essence beam of Rainbow Light. Next prepare a coin of Yellow Jade alloy, alloyed in A Vat Made From the Skull of a Regulator who died of old age but who's Soul has been used to make one of the Exalted, and cast with a Die made from Stainless Steel. Next Place the coin of Yellow Jade alloy into the center of the two disks of Adamant and seal all three pieces together by heating in the heart furnace of a factory that has exceeded quota for seven years straight for five hours. Finally charge the artifact with A blast of Electricity from the Elemental Pole of Lightning. If you have done this properly you will have created a Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter.

The Mixed Formula

Take about a pound of adamant, cut it down into two hollow disks about two inches across at the outside and with an inch wide hole in the center using an essence beam of Rainbow Light. Next prepare a coin of Yellow Jade alloy, alloyed in a vat built from the skull of a Behemoth, and cast with a Die made from Stainless Steel. Next Place the coin of Yellow Jade alloy into the center of the two disks of Adamant and seal all three pieces together by heating in fire made from Coals from the Elemental Pole of Fire for five hours. Finally charge the artifact with A blast of Electricity from the Elemental Pole of Lightning. If you have done this properly you will have created A Seven Fold Harmonic Adapter.

A note on the formula.

The Sections of the formulas marked Thus are the exotic ingredients required. If your ST says that you can use less due to it being a 3 dot artifact you should probably omit the alloying vat made from a skull.
