The Shadow Coast, City-States Against the Deaders

  • Location: The central northern shore of the Inland sea, east of Mauveport.
  • Population
    • Urban: 125,000 in 6 cities (Hiveport, the largest, has 32,000)
    • Surrounding Area: 1,200,000
  • Ruler: The Council of Cities
  • Status: Tributary of the Paddle-Wheel Gang and the Memnonic Gang.

The Shadow Coast have been locked in combat with the Deaders of the huge shadow land to the North ever since a massive battle during the Chaos Plague created it. Only the support of the Realm keeps them free from the dead. The Memnonic Gang and the Paddle-Wheel Gang teamed up to take responsibility for the area, and coordinated its formation into a league of city states (and a huge black market for goods of the Dead or various Northern vices.) Mauveport used to be part of the League of the Shadow Coast, but now belongs to the Ragnarok Gang, who seceded it.

It is sometimes arguable whether the criminals, smugglers, slave-dealers, and renegades of the area are much better than the Deaders they fight, but they've learned to stand together against this common foe.

Hiveport, City of Honey

  • Population: 32,000
  • Ruler: A governor appointed by the Paddle-Wheel Gang

This odd artifact of the Harem Age resembles a giant bee-hive surrounded by warehouses. The whole city smells of honey and buzzes with insects. Indeed, machines inside the governor's palace produce huge amounts of honey which is a popular export of the city, used to buy luxuries for the governor and fund the town government. Mostly the city imports weapons and ghost-fighting gear and sells them around the nation, then buys luxuries with its profits. It also exports a lot of food to the Realm.

About two thousand bee-people dwell here, serving the governor for reasons which remain secret to outsiders; they operate the honey machines and are generally well-regarded, especially since those who suck up to them the best get high quality honey which normally is exported.
