Lost Tayala, The Hunted Meaning, Third Circle Soul of Zuratha
Zuratha once knew what he was, what he wanted, why he acted and how to act. That was all long ago, and he has lost his purpose. In his darkness, in his half-hearted reaching for some reason to exist, he created lost Tayala out of the sands in his deepest caverns, working together shards of jade and pieces of flesh and spirit to create her. He let her slip through his grasp and escape, and it was only once she was gone that she meant anything. Lost Tayala is the concept of Zuratha's hunt for purpose. Although appearing normally to be an innocuous teenaged woman of flesh and blood, but with jade eyes and jade-streaked skin, she is mighty creature indeed who can take on nearly any form. Zuratha's other souls hunt her, and she avoids them; for uniquely among the souls of all the yozi, she knows her master's heart and he does not know hers, or at least has convinced himself he doesn't. She has been seen in creation, in Malfeas, and even in the wyld; but she cannot be tracked or hunted by anything less than the most perfect of magical effects, and even then, her path is one that is comprehensible only to a being that could truly understand a yozi, weaving as she does between worlds and existences, reality and metaphor. She knows that she is Zuratha's purpose, and that if he takes her back, she will be made one with him; she does not wish to lose her autonomy and her nature realizing that it is her sole purpose to be hunted. The meager purpose that she grants him is in that hunt, although that will change if somehow she is ever caught, as she by definition cannot be without external aid. If a sorcerer attempts to summon her, they may find that she is nearly impossible to bind; even if it is managed, she will find ways to slip free of the sorcerous oaths that no other demon could manage. If she does escape from a sorcerer, she will not wreak vengeance on him, but rather will simply move on, avoiding the souls that bray at her heels across the boundaries between worlds, perhaps even obtaining his help.
