The Dark Wave

Log of Captain Devilled Ray of the Bloodwake, a Reaver vessel

4th Descending Fire: We landed on the isle of Charbrook to stock up our supplies and sell some of our trinkets. Big Jurdo and Fidl have been drinking again; nothing unexpected about that. This town seems kind of quiet but I don't really mind; the sales were good, and even though I feel like every step I take in this place is a walk on a funeral march, that's probably how close we are to the Dead Islands. Been there a few too many times to be bothered about it.

5th Descending Fire: Something has gone amiss. People have gone missing, and some of the townsfolk are blaming us. Now, we might not be the Realm navy, but we ain't no kidnappers; I don't hold with slavery. Too little profit in it anyway. We agreed to help look for the missing instead of being castigated for their disappearance; I sorted the lads out with some weaponry, couple of firewands. Townsfolk never seen them before; they were all wondering what good they'd do.

6th Descending Fire: We lost Fidl and his crew up in the hills. Don't know if they're alive or dead; all we found was some of their gear and blood. Not even a single body, not a mere bone. More townsfolk have gone missing. Things are becoming worrisome; everyone is afraid. I can see it in their eyes. We keep hearing things far off, like trees falling or leaves rustling up in the hills.

6th, Additional: We found Fidl. One of the townsfolk had killed him. He had something attached to his face, like some odd kind of crab. We think the crab shocked him, and the man ran him through thinking he was something else. We'll hold ritual for him once we are out to sea. More sounds tonight, worse sounds. We found two dead Omen Dogs, dragged up on the beach. Drowned, trying to swim away. This place feels wrong. Very wrong.

7th Descending Fire: I write this on the way away from Charbrook. Only four of us remain. They came down on the village like a dark wave, thousands of them, all people that had gone missing days, weeks, months before; all of them with these things on their faces, their bodies half-rotten and twisted. We were butchered. They just kept coming. Jurdo fried one with a Firewand and it kept coming. It kept coming. Like some dark wave. We're at sea now, I think we got away. Sunrise was not long ago, and it is hard handling the ship with only three other crew, but we manage.

- They're here. There's nothing I can do. They're on the ship. I have locked and barred my door. If you find this log, don't go to Charbrook. They're here. I can't get out. The Dark Wave is here.
