Sylphs

The airy bodies of sylphs are naturally invisible to the human eye, but their passage leaves behind a trail similar to heat shimmer. If a mortal follows this erratic trail long enough, a sylph sometimes chooses to manifest as a beautiful young woman with long white hair that seems to flow with the wind even when she's inside. A sylph in her human guise is tall and proud, but also seems always to be somewhat unfocused, as if she was listening to somebody whispering to her.

They carry off mortal men that please their senses. The flighty elementals sweep them up and make love to them high up in the air. After they are done with their mortal lovers, they drop them off wherever their flight has taken them, without much regard for the mortals's original location. Some of them don't even bother to descend first, letting the spent men fall to their deaths.

A sylph who chooses to bear the child of a lover becomes a mortal for the duration of the pregnancy. She retains her Essence rating and her Essence pool, but she loses access to hear Charms. Her other statistics remain unchanged. While in this state, other sylphs constantly keep her company and tend to her every need, sometimes to a degree that the father and even the sylph herself find overbearing. The spirits mean well, but they have no concept of how their constant presence might be too much for a mortal, even one who is only temporarily so.

Once the child is born, the mother soon grows weary of her mortal state and longs to return to her sisters; most do so, eventually. Along with their mortality, their also cast off their human concerns; any love they had for child or lover dissipates as they resume their flighty nature.

A sylph might suddenly appear at some later time to rescue a man she had a dalliance with from falling to his death, but only if the sexual act was memorable enough to make her remember him.

Sanctum: Most sylphs are part of the courts of more powerful elementals, but some have their own sanctums high up in the clouds.
