The Disposables

The Disposables are independent cells of low-powered God-Bloods and other Essence-users that serve as cannon fodder, scouts, and guinea pigs for their Sidereal masters. Disposables don't know who they truly work for; each cell is fed some other lie about their purpose and the nature of their superiors. Individual cells don't even know of each other's existence.

The first cell was set up by one of the ancient Sidereals of the Convention on Essence Wielders two hundred years ago. Since then, the members of the Convention have established cells all over Creation, with only a minority of them on the Blessed Isle.

While theoretically every Sidereal can make use of the Disposables, Gold Faction members requesting Disposables often have to file a series of needlessly complex request, which then tend to get lost anyway before they reach their destinations, the divine assistants of someone from the Convention on Essence Wielders. Members of the Bronze Faction have it much easier. They are granted the use of Disposables through a simple verbal request that can even be retroactively made.

Exalts who want to make use of Disposables have to grant favors to the Convention on Essence Wielders in exchange. Those who carelessly waste the lives of their Disposables end up indebted to the elder Bronze Faction Sidereals that make up the Convention. Not because the elders value the individuals that make up the Disposables. They find their value in the favors they end up owned.

Most Disposables have Essence 1 or 2 and are the offspring of gods or elementals, or they are mortals who have awakened their Essence and acquired a few Charms or spells. Only a very small number of Demon- and Ghost-Bloods is part of Disposables cells. The Sidereals handle Half-Castes with great care as their Exaltations can't always be predicted accurately, leaving a Sidereal to deal with an unsupervised Exalt right in the middle of potentially delicate situations. A few Sidereals have been tempted to groom individual Half-Castes into Exalt allies, but the elders always put an end to that quickly.

After setting them up, the Sidereals leave cells mostly to their own devices, only casually supervising their activities. Recruitment is handled internally as well, with methods depending on the cover story the Sidereals created for each cell. Most are variations of Essence cult pyramid schemes or political groups advocating violent action.
