The Jadeborn are allowed to take spirits as familiars at a cost of background 4 or 5. Mercury ants are normally essence 2 earth elementals. Chitter is an exceptional mercury ant, thus rated at familiar 5.
He is currently the familiar of Flowing Magma, an Enlightened warrior Jadeborn.
Chitter is a young mercury ant warrior. A visit to an uncapped demesne caused the mutations giant and tough. Currently, his hive controls a level three Fire Manse of Fire Dragon’s Scale, to which the hive mind is attuned. The hearthstone is controlled by his “partner” (who he sees as HIS familiar), Flowing Magma, a Mountain Folk warrior. Together, they are an almost unstoppable fighting force. Both are quite rebellious, and have drawn many “suicidal” missions from the Mountain Folk army command. They return victorious each time, and the Mountain Folk artisans are currently very worried about the future of the pair. However, they do enjoy the knowledge that one of their remote manses is protected by a hive of mercury ants, and thus the artisans want to remain on good relations with Chitter.

History
-As told by Chitter, mercury ant warrior Every day the same; work, work, fight (sometimes), work more. Dig through earth and find tasty gems. Hide when other things come close, fight when need to. One day I find nice cave with plenty of tasty sparkly gems. I ate some gems and felt much stronger. Back at hive, other ants look much smaller, but I not mind. Now I fight hive enemies better.
‘Nother day hive find very warm cave for hive. It have lots of essence, and lots of tool-things made of jade that the two-legs use. I find little sparkly red stone in middle of cave, but not able to chew it so I leave it alone. We all happy there for long time. Then Jade-kin come and want happy home. I go to fight Jade-kin that have fire and metal, but not hard fight. Then we see lots of slimy cave-things come and fight Jade-kin. I help their strongest warrior. We beat slimy cave-things and Jade-kin are happy. They say we keep hive-home and they take little red rock.
I go with them to be sure no more slimy cave-things come. I go with big Jade-kin that I was fighting. He real fun, give me lots of gems and we fight cave-things lots. He like fighting a lot, maybe more than me. Sometimes I let him ride on my back, sometimes we both walk. Other Jade-kin not seem to like him much, but he good guy. There more evil cave-things out there than I can count, we fight them all the time. Lots of fun and keep ant hive safe, keep Jade-kin safe.
