SignsOfConjunction/DestinyBackground
Destiny
The future is indeterminate to all but the ancient weavers of the Loom of Fate, and these are largely placid servants, operating by rote and measure to eke out a monotonous sequence of similar births, lives, and deaths. However, for some reason, your character’s Destiny includes much more than anyone else’s – the weavers took their time to intricately carve out certain events of your life, to grant you certain tools. These tools vary widely, but are nearly guaranteed to bring your character to his preordained role in history.
Every point of Destiny bought during character generation grants an amount of bonus points that are then spent on backgrounds that the player wishes to eventually possess. These destined background are inert, but become ‘active’ at a moment of the Storyteller’s choosing. For example, if the player wished to have a daiklave, but was restricted from buying one at character generation, he could take this background to acquire it when the Storyteller feels it is most dramatically appropriate.
Alternately, Destiny can describe the evolution of one thing into another. For example, a regular set of pistols could be revealed to contain ancient materials that resonate strongly with Essence wielders. Using a few destined bonus points to buy a few points of Artifact would make these pistols magical, when the Storyteller deemed it most fitting they become so.
Points gained from this background are spent exactly as if they were bonus points, but may only be spent on backgrounds. Regular costs apply. This means that rank 4 or 5 backgrounds cost two destined bonus points per level, not one.
Because of their ability to assume many different destinies, Sidereal characters may have this background multiple times. However, this background counts towards the maximum amount of Acquaintances or Familiars the Sidereal may possess.
