Session Sixteen

With their battle on the fringe of the Wyld over, the Solars and their crew in their new ship finally head back to Storm Isle. The journey itself is uneventful, though they do have to reorient themselves. If anyone noticed their passing, it's written off as too much alcohol, drugs or a strange trick of the eye that vanishes on the second look. No one can quite believe there's such a thing floating on the seas after all. The same is true on Storm Isle and their arrival creates quite the sensation as everyone on the island gathers near the docks to see this new ship that has arrived.

Megumi sighs. How embarrassing.

Lady Syn says, "I'm nae sure what I want fixed the most, me head, those fuzzy trinkets, or the bloody ship."

Ryoujal says, "The ship."

Ryoujal says, "Hey you kids! Stop gnawing on the ship, it's rude!"

Lady Syn says, "I'll be jumping off the backside where no one can see me and swimming ashore once we're docked."

The children are definitely out in droves, pointing and laughing and giggling.

Ryoujal says, "I don't think that'll help..."

Megumi gets it over with and disembarks.

From afar, to (Lady Syn, Shorlixa): Orillian snickers. "Yeah, right. Yer not gonna live this down."

Ryoujal follows his captain ashore, being in worse situations than this, though not too much more embarrassing.

Big Red follows along as well

Orillian snickers softly to himself and wanders over to the children, offering them rides on the submarine sandwich, personally piloted by Lady Syn.

Shark Tooth and Lone Pearl are the ones that greet them. They try to hold back their amusement. Mostly. "Good to see it is you. We weren't sure who had arrived in...this...ship..."

The children delightedly accept all offers. Ophelia is there too and rushes to Orillian's side, hugging him tightly.

As the various crew disembark, they're greeted by their families and friends and it becomes business as usual on Storm Isle, no matter how dreary the mist is.

Megumi rubs her helmet ruefully. "Right. Complications were encountered, engaged, overcome..." Megumi twiddles a bit. "How are you?"

Lady Syn says, "Just wait. 'Twill be 3/4ths a day working until things look proper." She dives over the back and swims away from the crowd. "And after that I'll be makin yer life hell."

Orillian sweeps Ophelia up into a big hug. "Hey kiddo. Been keepin' out of trouble?"

"Fine fine. It's been pretty normal back here. We've settled down after that incident last time." Shark Tooth doesn't really mention it though. Still a little sad topic. "Your adventures are certainly much more interesting." Lone Pearl goes off to tend to the crew and prepare for the usual lodging and feasting.

Ryoujal is glad to be back home, greeting those who are there to welcome them with open arms, "It great to be back home! Now we can finally get a decent bath..."

Ophelia nods with a grin. "Yeah! What's with the new ship?"

Big Red nods to Ryoujal "Yeah a decent bath and maybe a good hot meal. And a fine smoke to finish it all off."

Lady Syn sticks to the shadows, presuming some are unwatched, or just stays underwater. Friends, she has few and family, well none here. Even if they hadn't been in such a ship, pleasent greets weren't her style much anyways.

The Solars and crew are eventually ushered further into the island, letting their sandwich remain docked. Food and drink is quickly being prepared and the wish for baths is also readily fulfilled.

There are a few queries as to the quiet, shadowy (and scary) one.

Ryoujal says, "You got any fish? I really got a hankerin' for some serious fish. Fish or squid would be good."

Orillian smirks. "Well, the crew it came with be a bit... odd." He whistles for the leader of the automata to come over.

The sound of piercing whistling rings out and the head automata comes in, marching on thin air down to where Orillian is. The mini automata march down as well. "Hello sir!" The head automata shrills. It's followed by a chorus of echoes. Then the mini automata start whizzing around the island, making the same piercing whistling noise. There are quite a few winces from everyone.

There's plenty of fish and squid. Ryoujal gets what he asks for almost immediately since the food is easily prepared. It's served by one of his many admirers on the island.

Lady Syn contemplates killing one of the little things should it draw near enough. They can get by with one less surely.

Big Red ignores the food to start and goes right for a hot bath and some dry clothes.

A few kids follow a shrilling automata right to where Syn is. "Hi Lady!" They chorus. The shrilling mini automata proceeds to fly around Syn with the giggling children chasing in circles.

Orillian rolls his eyes. "Shush ye!" he orders at the insane little robots. "Introduce yeself to Ophelia here."

Ryoujal says, "Thank you ladies, this all looks so delicious..."

Lady Syn twitches and reaches for her whip to snag and toss the deranged perversion of creation. If only she knew who invented these things, she'd kill their reincarnations.... slowly.

"Sir yes sir! I'm (name to be inserted here)! Hello O-phe-lia!" The main automata reports. The tiny ones continue to whizz around and the kids continue to play. The adults are moving as fast as possible away and going about their business.

Ryoujal gets himself a big plate of sea food while trying to keep an eye out for the annoying little automata.

"Awww." The kids sigh when the automata is tossed away. "Hey Lady Syn, come along for the feast. It'll be ready any time now." Too young to know or fear death, they proceed to attempt to drag Lady Syn into the festivities.

Megumi joins Red in the bathing thing. The concept. Not the actual action. Because they don't know each other NEARLY well enough for that.

Lady Syn says, "I'll be there in a minute. Run ahead and get me a nice spot."

The tiny automata are zipping around everywhere but thankfully aren't really messing things up. They're just really distracting. Pepper and Cinnamon set guards to chase the critters away while they're cooking. Shore offers one of them a drink out of curiosity and decides that was a bad idea. The people on the island in general are looking at the automata rather curiously.

Orillian smirks at the deranged swarm as he makes for the food. "Aright aright, back to the ship with ye. And no using the meal for more materials."

Ryoujal says, "The little metal things are rather harmless. Just make sure they don't work on your house or anything unless you want it turned into a cupcake."

"Cupcake!!!" Comes a loud chorus. And something proceeds to get turned into a cupcake rather speedily with the current tools and supplies.

Lady Syn thinks loudly to Ori. 'Kick him.'

Megumi joins in the dining festivities after she's clean and wrapped in a robe of some conservative sort.

The kids nod and run along, giggling all the way. It helps when the dizzy automata that Syn tossed hums back up and 'wheeeeeee's all the way too. One stays behind though. "I don't really see you much. You're part of the crew right?"

Ryoujal stops for a second and looks about rather embarrassed at what he did. "I hope that wasn't anything important..."

Big Red comes back out feel refreshed "That felt great." he takes a seat and starts on a meal.

Orillian flicks Ryoujal's ear. "They be very excitable."

Lady Syn starts walking away from the festivities and towards where she sleeps on the edge of town. "For the moment, aye."

As is usual, a great feast has been prepared. There's a lot of seafood, but also a good share of vegetables and fruits. All cooked to perfection. And drink. There's definitely a lot of drink.

Ryoujal says, "Alright, so I shouldn't no mentioning anything like that about the little things... got it."

Megumi drinks the rum!

The kid trots along with all the wide-eyed innocence of a child. "Oh. The feast is that way Lady Syn." The boy points out helpfully.

Orillian sets Ophelia down. "Now run along and play with your friends," he suggests, before grabbing a giant tankard in one hand and a small shark on a stick in the other.

Lady Syn says, "I know. That’s why I be heading this way."

Ryoujal continues to eat, complementing the cooks on their food without actually naming the specific dish.

"Oh...um...okay, I don't get it. Why're you heading this way?" The kid asks in some confusion.

There's a lot of feasting, toasting and gossiping. Megumi gets toasted several times as to her new *giggle giggle snort snort* ship. Everyone else gets their fair share of attention and flirting. Ophelia sticks close to Orillian. The tiny automata are being entertained by the kids and thankfully don't disrupt the feasting. They do turn a few things into food appearances as the kids delightedly starts calling out food names and sweets.

Lady Syn says, "Not one for feasts. Go on. Have your fun. Bright lights and parties aren't my way. Not unless I want something there. The others they need it. Reminds them why they do what they do. Come the marrow, they'll be ready to work happily. Then, I'll get what I want."

Big Red takes some tobacco from his pack and rolls himself a fresh smoke. He leans back and takes a long slow drag and lets the smoke roll from his mouth. "So captain. What’s next on our agenda?"

To (Lady Syn, Shorlixa), Orillian pages: "Agh, don't be such a party pooper," Orillian grumbles into her head.

Megumi says, "Fix Ory and Syn."

"Oh. Okay." The kid runs off. Many minutes later, he comes back, wobbily balancing a plate too large for him that's filled with food. "Is this something you want from there?"

Lady Syn says, "Nope. What I want is a nice sleep. Maybe some peace and quiet. Go on kid. You're too young to hang in the shadows. Least here anyways."

Megumi stretches languidly. "After they're better, we fix our ship, and the artifacts, too. Then maybe we can hunt down that squid properly."

Big Red nods as he takes another hit of his smoke. "I suggest we find away to uncutie our new artifacts as well."

Orillian waves his hand. "Aye, not hard. Just time." Orillian stretches out and tears a bit of shark off with his gauntlets. "It'll go faster if I can cure the automata of their food fetish."

"Oh." The kid slowly heads back to the party, carrying the wobbly plate. And he's back in another couple of minutes with a pillow and blanket. And a cup of a thick milky sap. "My daddy says drinking this will give us a good sleep." He beams.

Ryoujal continue to party with the others, spinning their adventure into a rather epic tale to the villagers.

Big Red gives a bit of a chuckle "Yeah those metal men need to be fixed as well. Strange little things."

Lady Syn says, "Kid, why in the hells do you bother? A lot better people to talk with then me. Believe me on that. Go make friends for Ophelia."

Megumi nods. "I'd like to get to it as soon as possible. By all means, eat, drink, be merry…but the sooner we fix our problems, the better off we'll be."

Big Red says, "Another question for you captain. How dose one acquire some property here on the island?"

Someone overhears the question and shoots an answer between rounds. "You build it, you own it. Or you can ask someone to build a place for you in exchange for something. The place'll be yours."

"You're quiet. I like quiet. Ophelia sis is too old to like talking with me." The kid answers. He's still holding out the drink in one hand, blanket and pillow in another. Big Red nods to the one who answers the question. "Thank you"

Lady Syn says, "Keep your stuff, kid. I got plenty."

The kid still holds out the drink. "It's really good." He tells her earnestly. "I drink it every night too."

Lady Syn says, "I've got adult versions in my place."

Big Red says, "Do you think this community would accept me though? I am no fishermen. Remember I came from a merchant culture."

"Okay." The kid looks a little disappointed, but perks up immediately with a smile. "Can I go with you to your place? No one ever asks me to go to your place."

Megumi shrugs. "Not everyone here is a fisherman, strictly. Remember, a good portion of the population sail for me, after all. There's also some crafters.."

Ryoujal says, "You could do worse than being here. This place could always use a little extra shells..."

Lady Syn says, "Thought it'd be the subject of local dares of bravery. Do what you want kid. Just don't expect me to be a good hostess."

Megumi nods. "And it's relatively secure. The mists...well, it's nearly impossible to find the place if you don't know where it is."

Big Red nods "It’s just a thought. But some day I need to find a real home. Some place I can hang my guns and hat."

"Okay." The kid happily carries along his blanket and pillow and drink and follows Syn quietly.

Lady Syn says, "Ye're one strange kid."

Megumi nods. "It's a fine place to do so. Put down some roots."

"Everyone says that too." He answers, dragging his blanket along. "It's okay."

Ryoujal says, "Oh, speaking of roots, how long do you think it'll take to fix the ship at least to be presentable? I still need to head back home to speak to the island's patron spirit."

Megumi blinks. "What do roots have to do with the ship's current appearance?"

Ryoujal says, "Nothing, roots have to do with MY roots with Tzihelta."

Lady Syn keeps walking to another clearing. "Yer parents going to be worried about you?"

Megumi follows the proverbial bouncing ball for a moment. "Oh, right. I'm no crafter. You'd have to ask Ory...huh. Where'd he go, anyway.." She shrugs. "No matter. Hopefully within a week or so, or less - I really don't know much about these things."

"Not really. My daddy's really busy. My mum's dead." The way the kid says it, he doesn't quite understand the meaning beyond, will never be around.

Lady Syn says, "I'm sorry kid. I don't do the family bit."

"Don't worry. I got too much family." The kid follows along as quick as his kid legs allow. "Everyone on Storm Isle is one big family. It's nice. But it's also real noisy."

Lady Syn says, "Well, most want to have their home. Some make sure its safe. Some do it from the shadows."

Ryoujal nods, "Sounds reasonable. Been away for so long....

"Is that what you do then? Keep your home safe from the shadows?" The kid inquires.

Megumi leans back casually. "Got any other plans? Either of you?"

Big Red shakes his head. "Nope. But I am kind of curious about some news from the Guild. Given I haven't checked back in since my ship went down."

Lady Syn says, "More or less. Guess its just how I'll always be." She heads to the hut and opens the door. "There's always something in the shadows. 'Sides me that is.""

Megumi nods. "We can drop you off at some port to check things out..."

"Yeah. The shadows have a lot of insects." The kid agrees and lugs his blanket and pillow in. He sets his drink down somewhere convenient and dusts off the blanket. Then he starts taking a look around. "Cool. Never been inside before."

Ryoujal says, "Not other than heading back home. Though don't know, wouldn't you be missed by the guild?"

Big Red says, "I'd like that. Although I am not expecting good news. This is the second caravan that I have been apart of that has gone missing."

Megumi nods. "Won't look good for you. You're still welcome aboard my ship, of course."

Ryoujal says, "Yep, would definitely think they might a few harsh words with you after that."

Big Red nods "Thanks captain."

Lady Syn says, "Don't get used to it. I like my sanctum solo. Just too much bleedin trouble to deal with you."

Big Red says, "I think it'll be more than harsh words. They forgave me once. With the Guild you rarely get a second chance."

Ryoujal says, "Hopefully won't involve actual bleeding in the near future."

"Okay. You have a nice place. The other kids come here pretty often. They never said it was nice." The kid seems to be musing on this conundrum.

Megumi nods. "Well, in that case, trying to contact them again may be more trouble than it's worth...I mean, if you'd like to try, I'm not stopping you, but it does seem a lot of effort for what is likely to be an inauspicious activity.

Lady Syn says, "Other kids, what?"

Big Red says, "Well I don't plan on talking to the Guild directly. Some of the outlying merchants would have plenty on information on the current running of things. And would have wanted posters posted near the shops."

Megumi nods. "You just want to see how high a priority finding you might be right now?"

"They come here." The kid repeats. "Then they tell everyone else they did."

Big Red says, "More or less."

Ryoujal says, "And once you're done with that, I'll run you out town and on to the ship once everybody and their mother want to turn you in for the bounty."

Lady Syn says, "I'm gonna have to get a lock. What do they say they do?"

"They..." This time he has to think for a while. "Well, they say they go in and drink. Though why they want to come all the way here and drink something is weird. And sometimes they say they take something to prove they've been here. They'll put it back later though."

Lady Syn says, "Better not have gotten my rum."

Big Red says, "Trust me Ryoujal, if I see a wanted dead or alive poster I am going run out of there."

Ryoujal says, "I have no doubt of that. Just... I got this odd sense something like that happening."

Big Red says, "Not to worried about that. Normal people don't stand a chance of bringing me in for a bounty. Plus I have wings now. I can just fly away."

Megumi ponders. "You know...*YOU* don't have to go to look at the wanted posters..."

Lady Syn checks her floorboards to see if the door's been opened recently then looks down for a quick bottle count.

Big Red says, "That’s true. Another crewmen could do it."

Ryoujal blinks for a bit, "Wings?

Big Red says, "Yeah. The artifact I found lets me grow wings."

Megumi nods. "Nice!"

As Syn has a look around, the kid gets comfortable by looking at everything else. And yes, the door's been opened. Probably seen some use. And she's short a few bottles.

Ryoujal says, "I'm not entirely sure what mine does other than allow me to stay underwater for seemingly forever and swim really well."

Megumi says, "Mine is a bow. Made of pasta. Which is vaguely appropriate, in retrospect."

Lady Syn says, "Two locks. Damn."

"Oh. Is that something bad?" The kid inquires curiously, looking down at the place Syn has opened.

Big Red says, "Not really digging the look of it. Something I might see if Ori can fix. Maybe even see if he can reshape it into a duster or long coat."

Lady Syn says, "Only where I keep my adult drinks."

"Oh." The kid seems to make a face at the smell. "I think I'll stick to my sap."

Lady Syn says, "You should."

"You drink that before you sleep?" The thought seems to suddenly occur to the boy.

Lady Syn fetches a bottle. "Only when things give me a headache."

"I know stuff for a headache." The kid offers. "They don't all smell this bad."

Lady Syn says, "It sometimes stops people who normally give you a headache from doing so."

"Huh?" The kid looks confused again. Then he shrugs. "Whatever works best." He takes a sweet from his pocket and begins chewing.

Lady Syn takes a swig of the drink. "I get by."

"Want a sweet?" The kid offers. "Jaisda makes some of the best sweets."

Megumi notes the returning Ory. Possibly from drinking too much, or some such. "Hey, Orillian. How long do you think it'd take to fix the ship?"

Lady Syn says, "I'm good. Go use them to make friends closer to yer own age."

"I dunno." The kid makes a face. "There's not many kids my age. Everyone's years older or years younger."

Ryoujal says, "I'd like to head to my home islands as soon as possible. Tzihelta is not the most patient spirit in Creation..."

Lady Syn says, "I'm years older too."

"You're not a kid." The kid explains patiently.

Orillian counts on his fingers, then on his mugs, then scratches his chin.

Lady Syn says, "Ye are."

"That's different." He answers with all the logic of a kid.

Orillian shrugs, casting a long glance out to the submarine. "Eh, it need a week, working nonstop." He cracks his knuckles. "When the beer be done."

Lady Syn says, "I ain't a rolemodel."

"Who said anything about a rolemodel?" The kid replies reasonably. "This place is nice...hey, if I promise to help you look after it, can I sleep here when I want to?"

Lady Syn says, "You sure you got a father around?"

"He's usually very busy. And everyone else is busy too. They don't remember me much. Aunty Cherry usually looks after us, but they're so many of us. I usually slip off somewhere else." The kid replies.

Orillian cocks his head to the side, as if listening to a far-off conversation, and smirks.

Lady Syn says, "Whatever. Keep them out of me rum and ye earn keep enough."

Ryoujal says, "Still haven't been able to get all of yourself back into your head Ori?"

"Okay." The kid beams. "Toast? I know adults like to toast a lot." He holds out his drink with both hands.

Lady Syn shrugs and toasts. "Yer one weird kid."

"I get that a lot too." He toasts cheerfully and downs his milk sap drink.

Orillian chuckles. "It seems Syn's picked up a tail."

Ryoujal says, "Damn it, we were in the Wyld way too long. This thing ALWAYS happens."

Orillian shakes his head. "Not like that."

Ryoujal says, "Oh... Then you should be more clear."

Orillian rolls his eyes and takes another bite of shark. "Whn m I evhr nht chear?" he says with his mouth full.

Megumi eyes Orillian. "You mean besides just now?"

Ryoujal says, "Did he speak? I thought he was clearing his throat."

Orillian hmphs. "Bah. Here I be spouting the wisdom of Creation, and it be going in one ear and out the other." He belches, loudly.

Ryoujal says, "Don't worry, I retained that one."

Megumi faceplants. "You're spouting, alright, sharkbreath."

From afar, to (Shorlixa, Lady Syn): Orillian freewheels drunkenly through Syn's mind.

Lady Syn says, "If'n I have to go to that party, I'm going to toss you in the ocean, Ori."

Orillian looks around. "...but why's the rum gone? Oh there it is."

The week passes busily. Orillian and Ryoujal work on the ship with their automata army. Who have to be told repeatedly not to remake the part they just fixed into a sandwich. Eventually, they sulkily begin building cupcakes and cookies from the village itself. The ship is getting fixed though. Red works on getting his own place set up. The community is relaxed about where he can build his home, and he gets to pick a place with a nice view. Arrangements are made to get the place built, and he can probably expect a nice home when he gets back from their next trip. Megumi gets some time in the manse and lots of noodly advice. Loves the bow incidentally. Syn finds her little tag-along continues to tag-along and is pretty good at doing so. But he keeps quiet and stays out of her way when she wants it, so he isn't that much of a bother. Then the week is over and their ship is back into something that resembles more of a ship and less of a sandwich. Time to name it and set off once more.

Megumi likes noodles. They're so informative.

Orillian makes a mental note to never tell the automata that the island is inhabited by the spirit of spaghetti.

Megumi has no clue where the squid captain is to be found, so for the time being, she consults with Syn and Ryo as to where the heck Ryo's islandy home is. There ought to be a guild outpost there. Two birds with one arrow!

Ryoujal says, "Well it's a relatively small island, don't remember much of a Guild presence in there. Though we'll have to pass close to Wavecrest, we can stop there for a bit to find out about Red's standing."

Orillian orders the automata to return aboard ship if they haven't already, and not smuggle any children aboard even if they beg.

Lady Syn says, "And why are we going here again?"

Ryoujal says, "On the way to my home. My home's patron spirit has requested to speak to me."

Megumi nods. "On the way for Ryo, and it's got to have some Guild chapter or another for Red to check into."

Lady Syn says, "I meant Wavecrest. Not that I mind playing in there. And you sure you don't want me to sneak into there and get whatever info you want?"

Megumi says, "I meant Wavecrest, too."

Megumi says, "Ryo's home island would *NOT* have much in the way of Guild presence, but Wavecrest is on the way to it."

Megumi says, "Sneaking is fine, however."

Ryoujal says, "Probably best if Red is a wanted man."

Lady Syn says, "Good. What am I lookin for?"

Orillian twiddles his fingers. "No burning things. Right."

Megumi says, "Find out if Red is a wanted man, mostly."

Big Red says, "You would be looking for wanted poster with me on them really or maybe some documents talking about me. But any documents would be in Guild Cant. So might not be easy for you to find."

Megumi eyes Ory. "YOU aren't going ashore for that visit. I don't want to sail away from Wavecrest as it burns to the ground."

Lady Syn says, "What’s the guild building and where do they keep their documents?" Ryoujal says, "Don't know why you have such a big deal with Wavecrest... Other than the simple fact the Realm is there."

Orillian nods.

Big Red says, "In the merchants district, near the ports. The leader of this area would keep an office somewhere in side. I would check his desk."

Megumi hefts her bow. "Ok. Let's go." She moves to board the ship.

Ryoujal nods and goes to board the ship after bidding a rather grandiose farewell to the islanders they're leaving behind.

Lady Syn boards the ship. "Good. Easy in. Easy out."

And so they sail off with much fanfare and noise and fond farewells. The journey takes a surprisingly short amount of time, probably due to the fact they have a rather fast ship now. Nearer Wavecrest, they start trying to avoid detection since travelling around in a First Age ship is definitely a big attention-getter. The waters of Wavecrest are well patrolled but they avoid the patrols easily enough and find somewhere near enough to the islands to row their small boat there.

Megumi does indeed order a submergance once the scouting party is in the raft.

Syn walks right up to the main island of Wavecrest. After shaking the water off, she goes off to find the main guild office. Infiltration is easy, theft is even easier. But she's definitely spotted making off with the documents. She escapes easily and returns to the ship with the documents but not without detection.

Megumi orders a silent, submerged sailing away of the submarine once Syn is aboard. Big Red takes paper work and scatters it across a desk as he looks it all over looking for any word about him and his last voyage for them.

You paged Big Red with 'As he searches through the documents, they make a mention of him as a man wanted for questioning, classified as highly suspicious and possibly a traitor to the Guild. There's also a few references to Guild agreements with the Realm with regards to parcelling out Wavecrest but those are more vague and less informative.'

Big Red looks up from the paper. "Well I am wanted for questioning and are classifying me as a possible traitor. There is also reference to the Guild and the Realm making some kind of deal about WaveCrest the its very vague."

Ryoujal says, "Something important enough we might want to swing back to investigate further?"

Megumi pauses at that. "Really. ....Fascinating. Let's swing back here on the way through after we visit Ryo's folks."

Lady Syn says, "I was working quickly. Should we swing back after Ryou is done and kidnap the top paper pusher?"

Big Red shrugs his shoulders. "Don't know.

Megumi nods. "At the least."

Ryoujal says, "Sounds like a plan"

Big Red says, "Well I got what I need. Let’s continue on. And thank you all."

Finally, they sail for the first time to Ryoujal's home. There are several Wyld pockets in the area, but nothing they can't navigate around. When they get to the actual place, it's far different from what Ryoujal remembers. The active volcanoes have become less active, though they still spew some smoke and ash. The rich life of the land also seems much reduced. As they dock at a convenient spot, Ryoujal finds that no one is coming out to greet them. Something has definitely happened on the island. The question is, what?
