Using these Charts
In order to use one of these charts, simply select the size of the unit. These charts support any possible combination of a 50-member unit, and can support most standard combinations of up to 120 units. Determine the number of actions the unit can take. You must have a minimum unit size equal to the number next to the action in order to take that many actions. Fill in or cross off all the action levels that require more members than the unit has. (For example, if a unit has 50 members, cross off the 8th, 9th, and 10th actions).
Then fill in the chart from the bottom up. Each circle remaining represents one member of the unit. You can have any combination of unit members dedicated to Action, Accuracy, Damage, and Defense. See the bottom of the page for an example of what a chart might look like for a 50-member unit.
As a unit takes losses, the controller of the unit (usually the Storyteller) marks off any circle he chooses. Exception: if the unit has reserve members who can fill in when one drops or withdraws, damage comes out of the reserve pool before being marked on the unit itself. When the last circle on a line is crossed out, the level of bonus drops to the next level. If the number of members in a unit matches the number next to the action column (it is a perfect square) and that line in the action column is not already crossed out, the next unit casualty MUST come from the action column (unless there are reserves).
Advanced Charts
The progression of the Accuracy and Defense columns given on the chart is for the basic-level rules. If you want more of a difference between levels within a skill category, use the following progressions rather than the ones given in the rules:
- Pool 4: 1,2,4,5,7,8
- Pool 5: 1,3,5,6,8,10
- Pool 7: 2,4,7,9,12,14
- Pool 8: 2,5,8,10,13,16
- Pool 10: 3,6,10,13,16,20
- Pool 11: 3,7,11,14,18,22
In order to calculate the advanced progression, change where you round. Instead of the bonus being 1/3 pool, rounding down, multiplied by the line, it becomes 1/3 pool multiplied by the line, round down.
Unit Control Sheet
The progression of the Accuracy and Defense lines depend on the base pool of a single unit member. Fill the blanks in a follows (from top to bottom):
- Pool 3, 4, or 5 is 1,2,3,4,5,6
- Pool 6, 7, or 8 is 2,4,6,8,10,12
- Pool 9, 10, or 11 is 3,6,9,12,15,18
