Kinetic Gauntlet
- Gauntlet of Invisible Energy
- Artifact ••
- Commitment: 4 motes
These gloves have been crafted in the Realm and Lookshy for centuries, though their origin is a true mystery. Some say that the Anathema originally thought them up, although the Dragon-blooded deny this fervently. Usually made of one of the five types of jade, there's been rumours of Kinetic Gauntlets made of orichalcum and soulsteel (though no moonsilver versions have been reported). Aside from a Magical Material, one needs to encase into the gauntlet the blood of an air- or water-elemental. The gloves are thin metallic bands around the wrist, which stretch into a plate that covers the back of the wearer's hand. From there, delicate chains stretch upwards along the top of the wearer's fingers to the knuckle, where they meet a ring, and then again to the tip of the fingers, where they connect to small thimble-like gloves for the tips of the fingers. Then another set of chains descends along the inside of the fingers to the palm, where the is a setting for a Hearthstone in a plate that contorts to the palm of the hand (only level 1-2 Hearthstones may be placed in the small socket).
System
The Kinetic Gauntlets are capable of much damage, though they are mostly used for protection at short range. They have three different settings, each one doing a different task in very much the same way:
First, the Exalt can spend Essence to send a kinetic blast to a target. This attack does Accuracy +2, Damage 5B per mote spent, Rate 1 and has a Range of 10 yards. For each yard past ten, the attack loses 1 point of damage, until it does 0 and it is completely ineffective. If the attack does any damage after soak but before damage is rolled, the target will be thrown back a number of feet equal to the amount of damage dice. If any damage is actually done afterwards, the target will suffer a -2 dice pool penalty for two turns. Dodging this attack is at +1 difficulty if the target does not expect an attack from the glove.
The second way to use the Kinetic Gauntlet is to attack a group of people. In this case, everything is calculated the same way, except the Accuracy is +3 (due to the wide spread) and the Damage is 3B per mote spent. Rate and Range stay the same, as well as the Knockback effect. However, the dicepool penalties if damage is successful only apply to Extras. Dodging this attack is at +1 difficulty if the targets do not expect an attack from the glove.
The third and final way to use this is to damage objects. This way is simple enough. For every mote spent, the blast does 10B damage. This final attack carries no Accuracy (does one really need to roll to hit a wall?) and the Rate is one. The Range remains the same, as do the effects of what happens should the character be further than the maximum range.
