Sapphire Heart
Sapphire Heart is an old and powerful spirit. Originally brought in to being in the first age as the spirit of the giant crystal fortress SapphireCrown, he for many years played the role of servant, caretaker and lover to the Twilight Sorceress LintaraKej, creator of the fortress. In spite of his subservient role, he did love his golden sorceress, and was pained greatly as he watched her die in the Usurpation.
The Dragon Blooded traitors who slew Kej ensured that Heart would play no role in defending his mistress by destroying the crystal matrix at the heart of Sapphire Crown that allowed Sapphire Heart to interface with the fortresses defences. Stripped of much of his power, unable even to conjure the power to manifest, Heart could only watch as his lover died. He took some small solace in the fact that of her attackers, only a single dragon blooded captain, Matall Karyn, survived.
Heart, though he loved Kej, felt the same survival urges that drive every mortal, and when it became apparent that Karyn intended to use the Fortress as the basis of her own petty shongunate, Heart realised he either had to swallow his distaste for his lovers killer, or die and forever be unable to gain revenge. Sapphire Heart chose to live, and over the passing generations, begat a family of god blooded spawn with Karyn. Between the awe the people of Sapphire Crown felt for fortress itself, and the obviously divine nature of his children, Heart found an unintended benifit to his survival. He found he had been thrust in to the role of City Father as the people of the city turned their prayers to him.
Eventually Matall Karyn passed on, the long life of even the Terrestrials nothing more than a passing interlude in the life of a spirit. With her influence gone, Heart took control of the city himself, and to this day has kept control of it. As the years pass however, he becomes more and more distant from the city and its people, content to live alone in his fortress with nothing but HaKu and the memories of his past as companions
