Lump Sum Resources System

The Resources background is your permanent Resources rating. Anything else you receive is a "lump sum" and recorded on your sheet as such.

Lump sums are rated on a one to five scale, just like Resources are. However, they are temporary. The amount of purchases you can make with a lump sum is a kind of a pyramid.

You can make one purchase with a Lump Sum equal to its rating. You can make double that amount of purchases at the next lowest rating, and so on. If an entire "tier" is used up, then so is the entirety of the Lump Sum.

Example:</b> Janet receives a Lump Sum Level 2. She may make two Level 1 Resources purchases or one Level 2 Resources purchase.

You can combine Lump Sums together to create larger Lump Sums. To do so, invert the pyramid structure. You can only combine Lump Sums of the same rating.

2 x Resources o = Resources oo
3 x Resources oo = Resources ooo
4 x Resources ooo = Resources oooo
5 x Resources oooo = Resources ooooo

You can leverage a Lump Sum into your permanent Resources rating. If a Lump Sum is higher than your Resources rating, you convert it into a final Resources background rating one level lower than the Lump Sum. Ergo if you have Resources 1 and a Lump Sum of 4, you would end up with Resources 3. This is to reflect that Resources is a continuous source of funding while Lump Sums are usually temporary affairs. 6 Level 5 Lump Sums may be combined and immediately converted into a Resources rating of 5.

Under no circumstances should Resources or Lump Sums exceed Level 5.
