Van

A quiet, kind barbarian who has lost his tribe, but gained more power than he could have dreamed of as a mere mortal. This has no changed his demeanor any, or perhaps, made it stronger. Quite unlike the stereotypical barbarian, he would rather avoid fighting and killing, but will of course fight if it is brought to him.

Van’s Character Sheet

Name: Van
Player: Raccoon
Caste: Dawn
Concept: Kind, quiet barbarian
Nature: Peaceful - While not a true pacifist, he prefers to avoid conflict if at all possible. He may even allow an opponent to injure him if he is certain there is no danger to his life, until the opponent has worked out his anger. He will regain willpower when he avoids conflict through his actions, or inaction. Essence Nature (Throwback): Savage - When times get tough, the best way to get through it is to cut down anything in the way, be it man, woman, or child, especially if it’s a Dragon-Blood from the Realm. When acting according to this nature (fail the roll), no willpower is regained for fulfilling its impulses. While possessed by his essence(botched), he regains willpower when fulfilling the impulses, such as cutting down obstacles indiscriminately.

Merits and Flaws

Merits:

Mutation (4 [Blight] + 2 = -6 BP)

  • Giant - Twice the size of the rest of his people while they were alive, he stands at a massive 12 feet tall and weighing in at around 500 lbs of pure muscle. He has three additional dots of strength and stamina, as well as 1 x -0, 2 x -1, and 4 x -2 health levels.

Enchanting Feature (-2 BP)

  • Despite his large size, he is quite the handsome barbarian prince. His eyes are deep and kind, his smile friendly, and his entire demeanor exuding a kind, gentle aura. With this, he adds one die to all pertinent Social rolls.

Flaws:

Barbarian (+1)

  • As the last member of a barbarian tribe, he does not have the social skills necessary that comes naturally to those that have lived in a city their entire life. As such, he loses one die from all Social dice pools related to understanding or expressing civilized etiquette. This also means he is illiterate.

Permanent Caste Mark (+2)

  • For some reason, his caste mark remains permanently displayed on his brow. It doesn’t glow, but it remains there like a golden tattoo. As the Immaculate teachings are widespread, nearly everyone will realize what this mark is and identify him as Anathema.

Throwback (+3)

  • A remnant of the founder of the barbarian tribe resides within Van, whispering to him of ancient wrongs. This ancient prince was a Solar Exalted in the time when they ruled, and he remembers the time when they were overthrown. As such, he seethes with unbridled anger towards the Dragon-Bloods and the people of the Realm. This ancient prince is far more savage than Van, and as such, when he encounters Dragon-Bloods he must roll Willpower against a difficulty of his essence rating. If it fails, he acts according to the ancient prince’s nature for that turn. If it botches, he is completely possessed by the ancient prince for the entire scene.

Unusual Appearance (+2)

  • While his skin tone remains a normal deep tan usually, he is completely devoid of hair. From his bald head to his lack of eyebrows and all the way down to his lack of pubes, he is completely bare.

Mute (+4)

  • Long before the attack on his people, he was found to be completely and irreversibly mute. This was a simple result of in-breeding, but luckily it did not impair him at all. His people already used a simple sign language to hunt by, so he was not hindered in the least.

Special Equipment

Orichalcum Gauntlets of Distant Claws (Artifact 3)
(Melee Claws: Speed +2, Accuracy +2, Damage +4L, Defense +3)
(Fired Claws: Accuracy +3, Damage 9L, Range 15, Rate 2)

Consisting of a pair of bracers attached to lightweight fingerless gauntlets of open, uncovered palms, these items do not interfere with manual dexterity and can even be worn while picking locks or other feats of dexterity. On command, each gauntlet can extend a trio of razor sharp claws. These claws are deadly weapons in melee, but each set can also be fired as a projectile attached to a fine but nearly unbreakable chain. The chains can fire up to 30 yards. These claws reduce the difficulty of climbing, as well, and as such reduce the difficulty of Athletics rolls involving it by one to a minimum of one.

The left gauntlet has a slot for a heartstone (The Voice of Silence). Requires 6 essence to be commited and can only be used as a pair.

The Voice of Silence (Manse 1)

This rather plain, unexciting hearthstone could possibly be mistaken for a very smooth stone taken out of a river, but to its user it is clearly a hearthstone of great importance. This hearthstone grants him the ability to speak, despite his handicap, simply by touching the person he wishes to speak to and thinking what he wishes to say. A quiet voice sounds in the person's head as if he were truly speaking.

He can talk to a group as long as they are at least touching each other, if not him.

Standard Equipment

Plate Headband (Mundane)

This headband, primarily just a simple cloth headband though with a metal plate to protect the forehead, covers that telltale permanent caste mark. He also seems to use it to keep his long hair out of his eyes.
